Yo siempre les aconsej a mis estudiantes que si un libro los aburre lo dejen; que no lo lean porque es famoso, que no lean un libro porque es moderno, que no lean un libro porque es antiguo. La lectura debe ser una de las formas de la felicidad y no se puede obligar a nadie a ser feliz. Borges I took literature when I was at school. It was not my decision because this subject was part of the curriculum. I remember that a list of writers, their novels, their date birth and dead were learned by heart. Moreover I read some Important books, these are written by recognized authors and you must read and know about that. After the reading I had taken exams about some specifics aspects of the novel: the characters, the evens, the story, etc. Thus the teachers would want to know if students had read and it was their only purpose.

Reading was discovered by me not at school. However I liked some novels but I felt obligated to read. I had preferred my own readings and I had fun time with my books. This was my case maybe I could found the love of reading but many classmates hated it. They after school decided to study a degree related to math, economics or chemistry. They did not found the literature as enjoyment because at school literature was an obligation.

My case could be the case of many people; they could not appreciate literature because the teachers have not taught to read. Thus in school some formulas are given, students will use a form in order to analyze a work. They will not think beyond structure and literal reading. Thus in school could not exist an analytic reading, stances or argument.

There will be a problem with how to teach literature. The fault could be the educative system; however teachers could have responsibility. They will choose the topics, the author, the reading but sometimes these decisions will not be appropriate for the students. The teachers can teach depend on the age, the context and the motivations of the students. The educator can choose the way to children or teen-ages appreciate literature.

The teachers would not have to concentrate on teaching historical information. Thereby literature subject will consist in learn by heart. On the other hand memorize information would not be the purpose of this class. The objective could be that students will learn by themselves and they will find in reading a space to discover and develop as human. Through the literature people can have many different perspectives, change their mind, think in others ways and build their personality. They can live because a life without reading is an unlived life.
