SMK SULTAN ABU BAKAR, KUANTAN SECTION A ( 45 MARKS) Answer all questions in this section. 1.

There are three male and two female workers who will be assigned to four different tasks. Each worker has an equal chance of being assigned to any task and may perform at most one task. a) Determine the number of different ways the workers can be assigned to the tasks, with two of the tasks allocated to the female workers. [2] b) Find the probability that the female workers are assigned to two of the tasks. [2] 2. At a Cineplex, 70% of the moviegoers buy popcorn at the snack counter. Of those who buy popcorn, 80% of them buy drinks. Among those moviegoers who do not buy popcorn, 10 % of them buy drinks. a) Find the probability that a moviegoer buys a drink. [3] b) Find the probability that a moviegoer does not buy popcorn if he buys a drink. [2] 3. There are two boxes which each contain three golf balls numbered 1, 2, and 3. A player draws one ball at random from each box, and the score X of the player is the sum of the numbers on the two balls. a) Determine the probability distribution function of X. [3] b) Find E(X) and Var(X). [4] 4. A continuous random variable X can take only the values in the interval [1, 2]. The probability that X takes a value greater than x is equal to ax3 + b ( 1 x 2). a) Determine the values of a and b. [3] b) Find the cumulative distribution function F(x). [3] c) Find the probability density function f(x). [3] 5. The age (in x years) and the price (in RM y thousand) of eight terrace houses in a residential area are given in the following table. x 1 6 5 9 9 7 4 3 y 98 55 82 47 40 56 75 80 a) Determine the equation of the least squares regression line of y on x in the form y = a + bx, expressing a and b correct to two decimal places. [4] b) Interpret a and b obtained. [2] c) Calculate the coefficient of determination and comment on the result. [3] 6. a) In a certain exam, the times in which the candidates took to hand in their papers and their marks obtained were recorded in the table below. Time(min) 66 74 90 73 58 70 81 86 60 77 84 79 Mark 76 80 60 68 88 60 78 72 74 88 70 60 Calculate the Spearman rank correlation coefficient for the times in which the candidates took to hand in their papers and their marks obtained. Comment on the result. [4] b) The number of bicycles sold by a shop in year 2000 is 15% more than that sold in 1999, 20% less than that sold in 1998 and 45 % more than that sold in 2001. Find the quantity relatives of the bicycles sold in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 by taking i) 1999 as the base year, [4] ii) 1998 to 2000 as the base year. [3]

SECTION B ( 15 marks) Answer any one question in this section. 7. The demand for durian cakes in a confectionary shop may be taken to follow a Poisson distribution with mean 0.4 cake per hour. The shop opens for 7 days a week and does business for 10 hours per day. a) Find the probability that the demand for durian cake is at least 3 in a day. [3] b) Find the probability that there is at most one day with zero demand for durian cake in a week. [3] c) Given that the demand for durian cake is exactly 3 on a particular day, what is the probability that this occurred within the first hour of business. [4] d) The shop produces 4 durian cakes per day and all unsold cakes are destroyed at the end of the day. If each durian cake costs RM5 and sells for RM 20, find the expected profit per day from the sales of durian cakes. [5] 8.
