GUIDELINE FOR PREPARING THESIS/DISSERTATION

INTRODUCTION

These instructions explain how you should prepare your thesis or dissertation. By following them carefully you will help maintain the uniformity of theses and dissertations published by EGPSEE.
NUMBER OF PAGES

The body of the thesis or dissertation including tables, figures and photographs, should preferably be no more than 5 and ! pages respecti"ely. #ppendices are additional. $rite concisely. %ong thesis&dissertation with less substance is time consuming to yourself and other readers.
TEXT FORMAT

The text must be printed on #' ()! mm x )*+ mm, sheets, single-spaced or 5! lines per page, with margins for all sides set at )5mm. .se Times /ew 0oman typeface !! pt. 1argins can be 2ustified or un2ustified depending on your preference, but should be the same throughout your thesis&dissertation. # digital file of your thesis&dissertation is normally 3ept by your ad"isor, you should therefore ma3e sure that all the figures, photos, etc. are scanned and included in the file.
CONTENT

#bstract should not be longer than one page.

Table of contents should show up to third le"el sub-section headings only. 6f you use $ord to write your thesis&dissertation, use any of the templates that come with $ord. 8therwise, adopt a suitable style.

Spelling may be either British or #merican, whiche"er you use you should be consistent throughout your thesis&dissertation.

6n the text, all le"el headings shall be numbered and in bold. 8nly first and secondary le"el headings are capitali9ed. Short Cuotations should be included in the text in enclosed Cuotation mar3s, e.g. Dlong thesis with little substance should be a"oidedE. %ong Cuotations should be indented from both left and right margin.

:igures and tables must be captioned and appear where they are intended to be in the text. 7aptions of figures and photographs should appear below them and captions of tables are typed abo"e. They should be positioned in the text lea"ing two lines of space abo"e and below. Putting text beside illustrations is not recommended but allowable. Fou should ma3e sure that sufficient space is pro"ided between the illustrations and the text on the side. Photographs should be scanned and inserted into or pasted in proper places in the text. 6f figures, tables and photographs are ta3en from other sources, the source must be cited and listed in the 0eferences section.

#ll eCuations are included in the text and numbered as (!,, (),, etc. ECuations should be centered and the eCuation numbers appear in the right-hand margin. 6n the text, eCuations are referred to as EC.! and so on. #llow one line spacing abo"e and below eCuations.

Plagiarism is the presentation of someone elseGs ideas or words as your own without pro"iding Cuotation mar3s nor crediting the source. #t some institutions, plagiarism is grounds for dismissal or denial of your degree. Please pay special attention to this.
