Homiletical Idea: Despite OUR plans, GODs purpose stands. Purposes: Think: understand that the Lords plans will prevail Feel: comforted by Gods sovereignty Do: acknowledge the ways His purposes have been manifested in their life Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. Intro: The American dream. The idea that you can be whoever you want to be, do whatever you want to do, have whatever you want to have and live the life you want to live. In fact, you can even have your best life now. This is the culture that we live in; a culture that says if you can work hard enough and do your best, your life will go according to plan. But is that the reality? Dont people get cancer, die young, get divorced and go bankrupt? I think even we as Christians have bought into that lie; a lie that says, if I plan well and work hard God will give me what I want, but that does not seem to be found in Scripture. What we are constantly reminded of in the text is that even though we may have it all planned out, God is sovereign and brings His will to pass.
