Teachers may choose to teach the standards on the geogra#hy and social characteristics of the nations in Central !merica and the Caribbean (slands, Teachers may also choose to have students study in the first half of the school year one early civili&ation, China is recommended because it is not taught in grade / and can be easily connected to the %nglish language arts curriculum through its myths* legends* and folktales,

(n this curriculum framework* the four disci#lines of history* geogra#hy* economics* and civics and government are integrated in the learning standards* they are not #resented in four se#arate strands, ! coding system has been used throughout to indicate disci#linary content stressed in a standard: (H) history, (G) geography, (E) economics, and (C) civics and government.
