Dear Members

Forum on the Review of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Practices of Major Construction Works in Hong Kong The Next Step 23 March 2013 We are pleased to inform you that in recognizing the contributions of our Association on various issues pertaining to the construction industry, Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) has awarded funding to our Association to carry out a project study on Review of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Practices of Major Construction Works in Hong Kong The Next Step under their HKCA Public Policy Research/Project Fund 2011. Subsequent to the judicial review (JR) on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau (HKZM) Bridge project, the EIA for a number of infrastructure projects has been delayed. It may not be able to quantify the full impact of the delay on the Hong Kong economy in the coming few years, particularly its economic effect. Also the delay in commissioning of the HKZM Bridge and other infrastructure projects would inevitably impede the process of economic integration between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region. The same applies to the development opportunities of the Hong Kong Construction Industry as well as the trading and logistics sectors. The aim of the project study is to review the EIA practices in Hong Kong making reference to the HKZM Bridge EIA JR case and application of EIA in other places. In order to provide more opportunities for collecting views and comments from EIA experts and construction industry stakeholders, a Forum will be held on 23 March 2013. On behalf of our Association, I would like to extend our sincere invitation to you to attend the forum.
