This standard specifies the welding, heat treatment, Nondestructive Testing (NDT), and hardness testing requirements for shop and field fabrication and installation, repair, or modification of piping to A !" #$1.$. A!!ro*ed Welding rocesses The following processes are approved for use with the restrictions and requirements as listed below5 ..1 ..( hielded !etal Arc *elding ( !A*). 6as Tungsten Arc *elding (6TA*). ..(.1 "/cept for A !" 12No. 1 through 12No. .A7.#7.% base materials, all manual 6TA* shall use a high frequenc) start and post2purge gas flow for the torch. 8iller metal must alwa)s be added, autogenous welding is not permitted unless specificall) approved b) % D. The 6TA* process shall be used for all passes for butt welds in piping and set2in fittings less than (..- mm nominal pipe si9e (N1 ). The 6TA* process shall be used for the root pass of butt welds without bac+ing in piping and set2in fittings of .3.: mm nominal pipe si9e or less, e/cept for vent and drain piping open to the atmosphere or %ategor) D piping. The 6TA* process shall be used for the root pass of single2sided groove welds without bac+ing made with stainless steel or nic+el2 based consumables. The use of flu/2cored 6TA* wires for the root pass of single2sided groove welds of 12No. : or higher materials with or without bac+ing gas is not permitted unless specificall) approved b) % D.

Thermit *elding using a copper allo) is permitted for attaching electrical grounding or cathodic protection cables. "% &&%. >ther consumables ma) be used onl) with the approval of % D and, depending upon the process and application proposed, ma) require testing in addition to that specified b) A !" "% &'. Approval to use other (unlisted in A !" "% &&%) consumables shall be obtained through the welding procedure review process. 8or unlisted consumables, vendor literature, which shall include intended use and appro/imate chemistr) and mechanical properties, shall be submitted with the procedure. All consumables shall be stored and dried in accordance with the requirements of Attachment 1 for !A* electrodes and Attachment ( for other consumables. 6TA* filler metal shall have either the A* 7A !" identification or the manufacturer?s identification mar+ed on each individual rod b) the manufacturer with tags (,flags,), stencil, or stamping. *elding consumables shall be selected based on their mechanical properties, compatibilit) with the materials to be ;oined, their suitabilit) for the intended service, and consideration of polarit), position, and direction of welding. *elding consumables not meeting standard industr) practice using the above criteria ma) be re;ected b) % D. *elding consumables which are being used outside of their rated tensile or impact ranges listed in the manufacturing specs must be batch tested or have % D approval. #atch testing must be in accordance with 8A ..31 to verif) that the) will meet the requirements of the base material. <.-.1 @ow h)drogen consumables (defined as less than or equal to : ml of h)drogen per 133 g of deposited weld metal, measured in accordance with A* A-.$) shall be used. The welding procedure shall include the *elding 1rocedure 0equest 8orm (Attachment A), *elding 1rocedure pecifications (*1 ), Cualification Test 0ecords (1C0), and *eld !aps7Tables (Attachment #) *elding procedures approved b) % D or audi Aramco *elding 0epresentative ma) be used for additional ;obs if approved b) a audi Aramco assigned inspector. The welding documents and data for the new ;ob must be identical to the approved copies and the range of variables on the new pro;ect fall within the ranges of the approved procedures. *elding procedures for e/ternal structural supports do not require % D approval and the) ma) be qualified to A* D1.1. Dowever, this does not appl) to the welding procedures to attach the support to the pressure2containing component.

A welding procedure shall be listed for each different weld t)pe and line designation. All base materials (b) specification and grade) and wall thic+nesses to be used shall be included in the *eld Table. The *eld Table shall not be reviewed without *1 s and 1C0s and vice2versa. *ith the approval of % D, standardi9ed *eld !aps and *eld Descriptions and sets of welding procedures ma) be submitted b) the fabricator for general approval. All of the documentation requirements shall be met e/cept specific line designations are not required (but service descriptions must be included).

Approval of welding procedures shall not be construed as authorit) for deviation from listed specifications or requirements of the relevant codes and standards and shall not relieve the contractor, fabricator, or vendor from correcting an) deviations. All *1 s, 1C0s, and *eld Table shall be available at the wor+ site for verification at an) time b) the authori9ed audi Aramco inspector. All information shown on the 1C0 such as amperage, voltage, travel speed, post weld heat treatment time and temperature, as applicable, shall be actual data as recorded using calibrated instruments. Cualification of welding procedures for all shop fabrication in audi Arabia and field erection wor+ shall be performed &n2 Eingdom. Approval for use of welding procedures qualified >ut2 of2Eingdom shall be obtained through the welding procedure review process (see A"12$.().

Cualification on A1& 1"% .@ grade '<3 shall also qualif) all lower grades. A change in filler metal or deposit chemistr) from A2number 1 (based on A !" "% &') to A2No. ( and vice2versa is not permitted without approval. The approval shall be obtained through the welding procedure review process. A change from A2 No. 1 to A2No. ( is not permitted for sour service applications without requalification. Aluminum fla+e weldable primers (e.g., ,#lo/ide,, ,Deo/aluminite,, or other brand approved b) % D) ma) be used without requalification of the procedure. The welding procedure specification shall indicate the use of the t)pe and brand of weldable primer. The ma/imum coating thic+ness shall not e/ceed 3.3.3 mm (3.33( inches). The use of other weldable primers or coatings is not permitted unless specificall) approved b) % D.
