Materials: Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy: 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) balls (140 m / 153 yds each), 2 circular needles of a size that gives you the right gauge, plus 2 circular needles 0.25 or 0.5 mm smaller, 4 markers. Gauge: 22 st and 30 rows per 10 cm / 4 inches Instructions: Worked from the top down. Pattern written for size XS, with S, M, L, XL and XXL in brackets. Abbreviations provided at the end of the pattern. With one of the larger needles, cast on (not too tightly) 58 (60, 62, 68, 68, 74) st. Start by knitting back and forth (i.e. not in the round). Row 1 (WS): p1, pm, p8 (8, 8, 10, 10,12), pm, p40 (42, 44, 46, 46, 48), pm, p8 (8, 8, 10, 10,12), pm, p1. Row 2 (RS): kfb, sm, kfb, k0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1) (m1, k1) 6 (6, 6, 6, 6, 8) times, k0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1), kfb, sm, kfb, k14 (14, 14, 14, 13, 14), (m1, k1) 10 (12, 14, 16, 18, 18) times, k14 (14, 14, 14, 13, 14), kfb, sm, kfb, k0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1) (m1, k1) 6 (6, 6, 6, 6, 8) times, k0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1), kfb, sm, kfb. You have increased one on each side of 4 raglans (=8), plus 6 (6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 8) stitches for puffed sleeves, plus 10 (12, 14, 16, 18, 18) st for gathering at back neck. Row 3: p all. Row 4: (k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb) 4 times, k to end. Row 5: p all. Repeat last 2 rows 8 (9, 11, 10, 17, 21) more times. You should have now made one increase on each side of 4 raglan seams a total of 10 (11, 13, 12, 19, 23) times. For all sizes EXCEPT XXL: Next RS Row: k to first marker, sm, kfb, k to one st before second marker, kfb, sm, k to third marker, sm, kfb, k to one st before last marker, kfb, sm, k to end. Next Row: p all. Next Row: as Row 4. Next Row: p all. Repeat last 4 rows 2 ( 2, 2, 2, 1, -) more times. You have been making one increase on every second row for sleeve sides of raglans, and one increase on every 4th row for front and back sides of raglans.

For all sizes EXCEPT XL AND XXL: Next RS Row: k all. Next Row: p all. Next Row: as Row 4. Next Row: p all. Repeat last 4 rows 0 (0, 0, 1, - , -) more times. Stitch count: XS: back = 78, each sleeve = 48, each front piece = 15 S: back = 84, each sleeve = 50, each front piece = 16 M: back= 92, each sleeve = 54, each front piece = 18 L: back = 96, each sleeve = 56, each front piece = 18 XL: back = 106, each sleeve = 62, each front piece = 22 XXL: back= 112, each sleeve = 66, each front piece = 24 On another circular needle (of same size) with a new ball of yarn, cast on (snugly, using regular long tail method) 42 (42, 44, 46, 48, 50) stitches, and cut yarn (leaving a few inches). Put aside. Next Row (RS) of main piece: k to 4th marker which is at front right raglan seam (call this Marker X), sm, p to end, then instead of turning around, purl across the new cast on stitches on the separate needle (sliding stitches to other end so you are starting on the end with no tails), and continue purling to next marker (left, front underarm; call this Marker A), sm. This now marks the beginning of a round, as you will continue from here knitting in the round. You should have 72 (74, 80, 82, 92, 98) stitches between Marker X and Marker A. First full Round: k all. Next Round: starting after Marker A, (kfb, k to 1 st before next marker, kfb, sm), 3 times, p to end (back to Marker A). The kfbs in this round should have made an increase at the back body and each sleeve side of raglans on the 4th row after last increase row. There will be no more raglan increases made on the front (soon to be lace) part. Next Round: k all. Next Round: k all. Next Round: k to Marker X, sm, k0 (1, 4, 5, 1, 4), [(k2 tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2 tog) 3 times)] 4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5) times, k0 (1, 4, 5, 1, 4). Next Round: (kfb, k to 1 st before next marker, kfb, sm), 3 times, p to end. Repeat last 4 rounds 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) more times. Next Round: k all. Next Round: k to Marker X, p to end. Separate body and sleeves: Place sleeve stitches (between first 2 markers) on scrap yarn, cast on 4 (6, 8, 10, 12, 14) stitches and at the same time, move Marker A to middle of these cast on stitches, which is now the beginning of the round. K across back to next marker, place other sleeve stitches on scrap yarn, cast on 4 (6, 8, 10, 12, 14) stitches and place marker in the middle of those. Continue working this round across the front as follows: k21 (18, 19, 16, 21, 22), (m1, k2) 16 (20, 22, 26, 26, 28) times, k to end. You should now have 92 (100, 110, 118, 130, 140) stitches on both front and back pieces. Body: Knit body straight until it measures approx.10 cm from underarms. Next round: (k8, m1, k to 8 st before next marker, m1, sm) 2 times. Next 11 rounds: k straight. Repeat last 12 rounds 6 more times. You should now have 212 (228, 248, 264, 288, 308) st.

Knit to 38 cm from underarms, or 2 cm shy of desired length. On last round, m4 (m6, m4, m6, - , decr. 2) evenly spread out (gives you a multiple of 18). Next round: p all. Next 2 rounds: k all Next round: [(k2 tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2 tog) 3 times)] 12 (13, 14, 15, 16, 17) times. Next round: p all. Next round: k all. Next round: p all. Next round: bind off knitwise, with medium tension. Sleeves: Starting with new yarn and 2 circular needles the same size as used for body, at the middle of the body underarm, pick up and knit 2 ( 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) st, knit across sleeve stitches, then pick up and knit 2 ( 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) more stitches to middle of underarm. Should have 62 (66, 72, 78, 86, 94) st. Continue working in the round (using 2 circular needles) for 3 rounds. Next Round: k 22 (24, 27, 30, 34, 38), (ssk, k1) 3 times, (k2 tog, k1) 3 times, k to end. (You can make more or less of these decreases if the sleeve edge is too small or too large). Switch to smaller needles. Next Round: p all. Next Round: k all. Next Round: p all. Next Round: bind off knitwise, with medium to snug tension. Finishing: With smaller needle, pick up and knit about 3 st for every 4 rows, along vertical left front neck edge, continue picking up the number of cast on st for the left sleeve, back, and right sleeve sections, and the same number for right vertical neck edge as for the left edge. Do not go along lace panel this already has a finished edge. (Pick up fewer st around if you want to bring up the neckline.) Work back and forth: Knit 3 rows. (Knit more rows if you want to reduce the width of the neck opening.) Then bind off knitwise, with medium to snug tension. Neatly sew ends of the new edging to the ends of the top of the lace panel. Weave in ends, and tighten up any holes under arms as necessary.
