From the Pastors Desk In the first reading of todays Mass we hear the Old Testament prophet Isaiah proclaim: The LORD said to me: You are my servant, Israel, through whom I show my glory. Now the LORD has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb While we can imagine the Lord speaking those words to a great prophet like Isaiah, can you imagine the Lord speaking those words to you? Probably not; but I would like to suggest that you should. Many of us consider ourselves to be insignificant. We number ourselves among the little people. We admire football players, basketball players and other sports heroes. Hollywood stars and rock stars receive a lot of public adulation. And there are others among us whom we consider to be very significant people. But ourselves? Well most of us dont consider ourselves to be that significant. But we should. Todays Gospel account is all about John the Baptist. Well, not really. Its really all about Jesus Christ and involves John the Baptist pointing Him out and urging people to pay attention to Jesus. Jesus said of John the Baptist: Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the BaptistBut John the Baptist said of himself: I am not worthy to carry his sandals. Still, John the Baptist must have recognized that he had a significant role to play. He knew he was to testify to the presence of the Messiah amongst us. He knew God wanted him to point Jesus out, to proclaim His presence, to announce the arrival of the Messiah. John was quite aware of his part to play in Gods scheme of things. But he was also aware that some people thought he, John the Baptist, was the Messiah, not Jesus, and John did not want that to happen. What I want to say to you today is that you, too, each one of you here, is significant in Gods great scheme of things. Each one of you has his or her, own completely unique DNA coding. No one who ever was, or who is living now, or who ever will live in the future, can have your DNA coding. You are completely one of a kind. No one else will ever be exactly like you. Even if you are someones identical twin, your twin will not be who you are. You are very special to God very important to Him. Let me say it again: there will never be another you and if you dont love God just as you are, He will never be loved like that ever!

Theres another thing. You play a significant role in the lives of those around you. Your example in dealing with life is significant and important for those around you who know you. Life is unfair. Life is difficult. Life brings suffering a lot of suffering with it. How you deal with it will be very significant to a number of people who know you. But life has its joys too. Life brings good fortune and happiness to us. How you handle success, along with the generosity in your heart, can be of great significance to people who know you. How you handle both success and failure has an impact on others. Greatness in the eyes of this world doesnt amount to much, or even last very long. What matters, and what is everlasting, is your greatness in the eyes of God. What matters is your response to the love in Gods heart for you in your uniqueness, in your individuality, in your importance to Him in His great scheme of things. Each one of us, no matter how little we may consider ourselves to be, is important to God and important to others as well. Keep up the good job and be an inspiration to those around you. A few things in parish life, I would like to remind you about:

Phase III 2014

Dear Parishioners & Friends of SS. Cyril & Methodius, We are in the final phase of the church's renovation and we can't stop now. The final phase of our renovation involves the following: 1. The removal of the current carpet and tile flooring followed by the installation of a new terrazzo floor in the body of the church along with restoration of the sanctuary floor. 2. Renovation of the current church pews. The plan is to refinish the existing pew ends and to replace the seats and backs with superior solid oak. By refinishing the pew ends, the cost of pews is down from $150,000 (new pews) to $110,000, thus saving $40,000. With new seats and backs we will also eliminate the middle divider in the longer pews, picking up additional seating. 3. The installation of spring loaded padded kneelers which are covered by a lifetime warranty and provide both comfort and noise reduction when kneelers are dropped. As you are aware, all of the restoration work done to date has been paid for and the parish remains debt-free. The estimated cost of the final phase of the renovation is approximately $300,000. The current balance in our account for capital expenditures is $227,981. Consequently, we face a shortfall of $72,019. SS. Cyril & Methodius has over 2,400 families registered as parishioners. I am asking each family to make an effort to contribute $200 to this most worthwhile endeavor. If each registered parish family participates, we will easily exceed our goal. I know there may be families struggling financially and if this is the case, please give whatever you can afford. If you are in a position to afford more, please consider giving generously to this exciting conclusion of the renovation. The goal is to raise the needed money before the end of this year and to complete the project in 2014 to celebrate our 130th anniversary. I thank you for the support that you will give. May God bless you for your faithfulness and generosity. Sincerely, Fr. Waldemar Stawiarski

Christmas & Year End Giving

Tri-Parish Anointing of the Sick

On Saturday, February 8, 2014, SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish will celebrate the Anointing of the Sick at the 11 AM Mass. We extend an invitation to those in our Tri-Parish Family who feel that the Celebration of Anointing will provide help for them in sickness and aging of their bodies. In the past, the anointing was done near the time of death. Theology today understands anointing as the sacrament of the sick rather that at the time of approaching death. The Anointing of the Sick is the prayer of Christ and His Church for the physical and spiritual health of the sick person. Who may be anointed?

God calls us to be good and faithful stewards. Sharing our blessings helps us to build the Kingdom of God. Your financial support helps us to continue the missions and ministry of Jesus. As we approach Christmas and the year end, please review your parish contributions. Please review your Capital Campaign pledge payments and consider donating to the pew & floor renovation. Gifts made on or before December 31st may be tax deductible for this tax year. Gifts of stocks and other securities, held more than one year, are excellent gifts to make. You may be able to deduct the stocks fair market value and avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciation of the stock. Gift annuities are an option for people wishing to donate money to their parish over a long timeframe. Does your employer offer matching gift donations? Please consider donating your time, talent and resources to the church or school through one of the many church/school ministries or organizations. Volunteering can be such a rewarding experience.

A sick person may be anointed before he/she undergoes surgery, whether or not the surgery is serious. Persons with chronic illness. Older persons, even if they are not suffering from dangerous illness. Mentally disabled persons and chemically dependent persons. A sick child may be anointed in order to be comforted and uplifted by the sacrament.

Following the Mass there will be a luncheon in the gym. If you wish to participate in the Anointing of the Sick, Saturday, February 8th, please detach and return the form below to the rectory or the collection basket no later than Monday, February 3rd. It is very important for us to have an accurate count for the meal. If you have any questions, please call (630) 257-2776.

Drodzy Parafianie,
Podczas kiedy moemy wyobrazi sobie Pana przemawiajcego tymi sowami do wielkiego Proroka Izajasza, czy moesz wyobrazi sobie Pana wypowiadajcego te sowa do ciebie? Zapewne nie, a sugerowabym, e powiniene. Wielu z nas uwaa si za mao wanych. Stawiamy siebie wrd osb mao istotnych. Podziwiamy pikarzy, koszykarzy i inne gwiazdy sportu. Gwiazdy Hollywood i gwiazdy rocka s uwielbiane przez spoeczestwo. S rwnie pord nas osoby, ktre uwaamy za autorytety, za osoby wane. A my sami? No c... wikszo z nas nie myli o sobie jako o kim znaczcym, a powinnimy. Dzisiejsza Ewangelia jest o Janie Chrzcicielu. No, niezupenie. Wiedzia, e by, aby wiadczy o obecnoci Mesjasza wrd nas. Wiedzia, e Bg chcia, aby wskaza Jezusa, obwieci Jego obecno i oznajmi nadejcie Mesjasza. Jan by bardzo wiadomy swojej roli, ktr mia do odegrania w Boym planie. Rwnie zdawa sobie spraw, e niektrzy ludzie uwaali, e on Jan Chrzciciel by Mesjaszem, a nie Jesus. Jan nie chcia, aby tak myleli. Chc wam dzisiaj powiedzie, e kady z was tutaj, jest osob znaczc w wielkim Boym planie. Kady z was ma swj cakowicie unikalny kod DNA.

Kilka spraw o ktrych chc przypomnie:
