Your context (approximately 300 words) Please give brief information about your context: Your professional background I started my professional career in 2008 as a high school teacher in Bangladesh International Tutorial (B.I.T), Dhaka. At present I am working in Scholastica (pvt) ltd as a kindergarten teacher. My students age level is 6 to 7 years old. I teach them English, Mathematics, Science and Islamiat. I find my work as a teacher very much satisfying. competing world order. Your learners I am a teacher of KG-ll which is called Junior Level. The students are between 6 to 7 years of age. They come from different background of life. Most of them have completed the pre-school from here so they are familiar with the system. In my class there are 18 learners and each of them has their very own characteristics. There behaviour matches to some extent but there are exceptions too. Some are high achiever, some slow learner, while some are hyper active and one is also an attention seeker. So, I get a chance to work with quite a lot of variety of learners in my class.

Your professional development during the Diploma (approximately 100 words) What do you expect to learn from this Module about design which will help you in the next Module, which focuses on practice? From this module I expect to learn that how to deliver an effective teaching session that contents all steps of teaching skills. Planning & preparation: These skills involve in selecting educational aims and learning outcomes intended for a lesson and how best to achieve these. Lesson presentation: These skills will let students be engaged successfully in the learning experience, particularly in relation to the quality instruction. Lesson Management: With this skill I will be able to manage and organize the learning activities as well as to maintain learners attention, involvement and interest. Classroom Management: Establishing positive and motivational attitude in the lesson reminding ground rules. Assessing planning: Assessing learners progress covering both way summative and informative. Evolution Planning: It will help me to evaluate my current teaching practice in order to improve further practice.

Part A: Designing the programme and the sessions


1.1.1 Identifying aims and objectives

(approximately 400 words) Which aspects of your professional practice would you like to change and develop in undertaking the Diploma, and why? I would like to change my traditional method of teaching. Through this Diploma, I would like to develop all the steps of teaching practice. Though my prime focus of improvement will be to learn a better time management during a class but there are some other areas where I would also like to make some improvements1. Class organisation through effective use of resources; 2. Reach out to all type of learners; 3. Help learners to know their talents and work in accordance with their strength and weaknesses; 4. Be patient while taking classes; 5. Maintain a happy yet disciplined classroom; What are the most important factors for you in designing the programme? The most important factors while designing the programme are Lesson plan- First of all I will make a proper lesson plan which will be appropriate to my learners age level. As my learners are young I will make the lesson plan according to their level of understanding. Aims and objectives- The aim and objective of the lesson plan is that the lesson will be appropriate and achievable to the learners. Age level- As my learners are in the junior level so I have to set the programme in such a manner that is effective for their age level. Moreover as the group is of mix ability I will always try to make it interesting and effective for all the learners. Assessment- I will make the assessment on observation and oral question. In this way I can get the best assessment result. Time management- This is a very important area as I have some short coming in this area. Differentiation- I have different type of learners in my 18 pupil classroom. I got to know them using different techniques. How are you dealing with these factors in the programme plan? The factors that I dealt with to make the lesson effective for the learners is to identify the

learners need and to get that I go through the background history of the learners and then apply different teaching method for them. The important factor that I dealt with are as followsfor Setting aims and objective : First of all I set the aims and objective for the learners. In this way it is easier for the learners to get a clear view of the lessontopic. According to the objective I set the activities. Time management: For the best use of time I divided my class into different time slots. In this way I can cover all the areas which need to be discussed. Among these if something exceeded the time I can cover with the next topic. Differentiation- In my class I have 18pupils and they all are not same type and some of them are hyper active, some are slow learners, some shy while some are high Achievers. So, when I plan the session I have to keep in mind that I should keep Some different activities for each group. Such as for high achievers I kept peer Coaching, for shy learners I kept boar work, etc.

Understanding your learners

(approximately 400 words) How have you identified the needs, aspirations and potential of your learners? As I am a teacher of junior school the age level of my learners is 6 to 7 years. It is very important to identify the needs of the learners especially when they are so tender in age. Identify their needs: To know the learners need I followed some methods which are Observation of the learner in first week of programme. Talk to parents. Interview with learners. Review of previous report card or school reports. Discussion with learners previous teachers. Identifying their aspirations: Aspiration is the goal they can achieve. To know their aspirations I followed some Techniques, they are Informal chat to learners. Verbal discussion and feedback. Live questionnaire. Identifying potentiality of my learnersWhile taking classes I have identified the potential of my learners through Observation Role-play exercise Activities Assessment. What are their needs, both as a group and as individual learners? I have 18 pupils in my class. Among them there are different types of learners. And there needs are also different. I have identified the following need in my classIndividual needsAmong 18 pupils one is left behind. So I have to always arrange a separate seat for him. I am very lucky that I have only one hyper-active child in my class. When I am taking class I always make him my assistant so that he is always with me and cannot disturb others. Group needsI have four learners who are slow learners. They take more than usual time to understand and complete their work. I always try to make their work easier than others and give them extra time. I have two learners who are very shy and do not want to participate in oral activities. I always ask them more questions to make them easy in the class.

How have you designed learning activities to relate to the learner needs you have identified? Every learner has their own ways of learning. So, to meet up their particular needs I try to design my learning activities. As a teacher I always try to motivate my shy learners and always make them sit beside me, asking them frequent questions and encourage them to participate in all class activities and specially in speaking classes. I try my best to make my lesson interesting, organised and activity based; so that all my hyperactive learners could be busy with different interesting activities. I always call them by their name and keep them occupy by let them help the peers. For my attention deficiency learners I pay much attention when he shares something with me. Actually these kinds of learners are the learner who lacks the proper concentration in class. So, I always listen to him carefully and try to solve his problem eagerly. So, he feels privileged and co-operate in the class. Few of my learners are slow learner, for them I use motivational words, keeping rewards if they complete work in time, giving extra time to complete and also encourage them to complete the work within time.

1.2.1

Planning the learning programme

(approximately 400 words) How are you integrating active learning into your learning programme? As I made my programme plan with Plants and trees so, I have chosen some interesting learning activities for my learners. I believe these methods will help to facilitate the learning process. It is effective for the learners to explore knowledge and develop their skills. Discussion: Quality talk is one of the most important aspects of effective teaching. It helps to grow rapport with teacher and learner. To increase learners language and literacy skill. As the learners sit in a circle so it is easy to make eye contact with them and can interact directly. It also helps me to differentiate the learners through observation. Usually I use charts and flash cards during discussion time. So, it helps the visual and auditory learners at the same time. Hands on activities: I keep this activity because it helps the learners to know something as real, they touch, see and can feel the objects and learn easily. Those who are kinaesthetic learners they can learn much. Group work: It helps the learners concept and identification ability through sharing and enjoyment. Brain storming: Through this learning activity learners will get the chance to think and answer by their own and can develop their vocabulary skill as well as ability of understanding. Field trip: This learning activity is very interesting, so all kinds of learners enjoy and can learn the topic easily, they also get entertained, learn sharing and can develop communication skill with others. Recognition, memory game, matching, pattern, sorting, colouring, story telling and games all these kind of active learning I also keep in my plan because by doing these learners will be able to develop their thinking, recognition, recalling skills as well as hand control, eye-hand coordination and implementation of design too. Planning the learning sessions

Learning Session 1 (approximately 400 words) How do you intend to prepare the learning resources and learning environment for this particular learning session? For this particular learning session I try to make it interesting. Therefore, I plan to use different kinds of interesting resources. Usually these resources I collect sometimes from library, sometimes I make by myself. Rhymes chart: It is a colourful book which will attract the learners visually. Flashcards and charts: These resources are also very colourful and big, so learners could understand easily. 3D objects: It will help the kinaesthetic learners as well as visual learners. Headgear with leaves and flowers picture: It is an excellent prop, learner will be able to understand and identify the particular flowers through this resource. Worksheet: This resource I keep for developing their understanding skill and hand-eye coordination skills. It is obvious that a good learning session totally depends on classroom environment. So in this aspect I maintain a very warm, relax and friendly classroom environment. To ensure a organised classroom I always remind the learners about the ground rules. I use motivational words to the learners so they feel comfortable and reliable. All the time I encourage the need based learner so that they can feel secure and confident. I keep eye contact and monitor all the learners closely, so it establish and maintain a purposeful working atmosphere and good standard of discipline. What roles do you expect to play in the learning session? My roles should be more remarkable. Sometime I like to be their guide, instructor, friend, and facilitator and sometime I want to be their role model. I may help them to develop their personal skill. Learning Session 2 (approximately 400 words) How do you intend to prepare the learning resources and learning environment for this particular learning session? This particular session I design for the outside of the class. The resources I plan to use are picture of different kinds of plants and trees which will be drawn previously by me and my peers. I will keep small pots and seed for my learners to do the germination. I plan to use some 3D plants and flowers which will be collected from the library. As the session will be set at outside of the classroom, so I will ensure the security of my learners. For that I will set some ground rules. Environment will be opened and friendly. So, children will get interest to share with each other and will establish a purposeful learning. What roles do you expect to play in the learning session? My roles should be more remarkable. Sometime I like to be their guide, instructor, friend, and facilitator and sometime I want to be their role model. I may help them to develop their personal skill. I will play the role of an information provider, the mentor, the motivator and the facilitator in the class. I will provide the objective of the lesson, I will guide their direction of learning. Part B: Reflective Report


In your report, you should reflect on your overall experience of planning the learning programme and learning sessions. Among your reflections on this stage of the teaching and learning cycle and your Diploma project, you should include the following themes: (a) The sources (human, published and web-based) you used in designing this programme plan and the two learning sessions, and the ways you have used them. (b) The highlights of your planned programmes and learning sessions which you think will particular facilitate active learning and encourage learners. How might learning be extended beyond the two learning sessions you have designed? (c) What have you learned about the process of designing programmes and sessions? (approximately 1000 words) It is a great chance for me to get this experience of making programme plans that helped me a lot in different ways of learning. From this module I also learned about learners need, lesson plan, evaluation, assessment, differentiation etc. Planning of this module involves a lot of thought and also makes us think of various aspects, amongst which we have never thought about. So it was very interesting and it instigated us to think about various aspects. First I would like to mention about the sources which I used and was also the most important aspect of planning my session. They are:Using colourful charts with pictures enhance the learners visual learning. The hands on activity during drilling session is useful to identify different sizes and shapes of plants and trees real plant, tree, flower make the learners more integrated in the topic. After discussing the programme plan my supervisor gave me the idea of bringing in the real plant. This was really fascinating from the learners point of view. On a regular class day they dont get to work with real life resources. So it will be different experience for them. After discussing the topic with my peers they gave me the idea of going to the school garden. Children will get to see the real plants and trees and they will be able to differentiate between them easily. Charts and flash cards showing different parts of the plants and trees will enhance the learners visual learning. In the rhyming session of A little Plant the psychomotor skill is enhanced. In the text book this chapter of Plants and Flowers had more than 15 class each consisting of 40mnt classes. But when I planned I planned with 13 classes and kept two different classes for project work and field trip. Instead of making the class boring with only discussion I thought outside activity would be better. The life cycle of the tree is shown through a 3D project work from the library. It is very helpful for the kinaesthetic learners. Surfing the net I got the information of forestation and its usefulness. The game used in the indoor class gave a clear picture of their learning experience through an activity. The germination programme gives their learners the real life experience of handling plant seeds. Outdoor activity is kept for the learners to be kept near the trees. They get a feel of the topic discussed. Scrap book preparation is to make the topic interesting and also to appeal to their senses such as watching and listening. Their colourful work makes them happy.

One of the most important parts of teaching learning activity is that they should enjoy the session and at the same time their mind is put to work. As todays children are very techno savvy they have to be taught in a manner which they like and enjoy. I have tried to do the same by doing the following things:Involving the learners: - In everything Ill do in the class, I plan to involve every learner. To make the content simpler for them to understand as per their requirement. I have tried to use their previous knowledge and plan to teach them some topics by relating to it so that they dont feel the topic to be vague. Ive plan to keep interesting resources into the classroom so that the understanding of the topic becomes easier, colourful, and interesting. I want to give the learners some props, which can be used to learn and enjoy a session. Ill take the learners to a small park and ask them collect different types of leaves from plants and leaves to get a realistic experience. A fun game will also be organised in which the learners are running from here and there, yelling in order to collect the different parts of trees and plants and keep them in the right basket. In this activity the students will be active physically and mentally and then they will be brainstormed. All the above things mentioned are the few highlights of my planned programmes and learning sessions which according to me will facilitate active learning and encourage learners. Moreover my two classes which will be observed have some more highlighted programmes that will facilitate my learners learning process. I have designed programme plan with 13 sessions and each session contains 40 minutes and I think it will be enough for my learners to understand, comprehend, applying performance according to their age level. There are two contrast sessions which I have chosen from my whole programme plan, where I try to make the sessions more interesting, enjoyable and effective for the learners. These are as follows: 1.Plants and trees For this session children will rhyme A little Plant with action which will help them to develop their verbal skill and power of retention. Through the discussion, all the learners get chance to participate and can share their thoughts with the teacher. Through tree and plants finding game theyll be able to learn plants and trees name. Theyll enjoy this game as itll motivate them too. Through the `Board work, their hand grip and eye-hand co-ordination will develop. The assignment matching will develop their understanding and identification skill. 2. Germination: It is a project work based session. The first activity is to review the different parts of trees and parts from the flash cards and picture charts. The next activity is that they will come one at a time to do the plantation of the seeds in a pot. Theyll become more confident by doing the germination through this project work. Ive planned the above project work in my last session where the learners will take the planted seeds to their homes. If I take this class again in that case I will plan the germination programme at the beginning of the session. Because in this way I can show the learners the seeds turning into a plant.

I have designed two contrast sessions; one is discussion based and another is project work. One is inside the classroom and another is outside of the classroom. By these two sessions learners will be interactive with the teacher, slow and shy learners will be motivated. Learners confidence level will increase. They will be able to develop their vocabulary, understanding, eye-hand co-ordination skills. I want to plan a role play with the rhyme A little plant but dont know whether I can make my learners act on it properly or not. Dont know how the learners will perform to it but I have my fingers crossed.

As a teacher I get to learn something every day, but designing this programme was a very different experience as I had to think from different perspective in order to make the sessions interesting, informative and at the same time to make the children enjoy the teaching- learning process. Planning is the process of logically sequencing subject matter so students can achieve the goals, standards and benchmarks they need to learn at each level. I had to think about the age appropriateness while planning my sessions so that the students understand whatever is been explained. The designing of the programme gave me an insight of observing my kids closely so that I come to know about their strengths and weaknesses. 3. I also started thinking about various things differently. For ex:-while designing my programme I used to see around and think how I can use it for teaching one of my topics. All the time the teachers mind was working, that how can I give my students the knowledge of different thing around them and how they can make a difference and also become a better citizen. I tried to teach, reteach, and reinforce the topics to help my student apply these concepts to real life. Organisation is of utmost importance for any person to succeed and grow in his/her field or profession; so as with the teacher. I learned to be organised for executing my lessons well. Sometimes whatever we have planned seems to be not working, so I also tried to have a backup plan in case if something does not work out. How can we use technology effectively and make the session interesting. To keep in mind different type of learners and plan accordingly. It made me think from the students perspective. These are some of the things that I have learned about the process of designing programmes and sessions.
