1965 - Ferdinand Marcos, running against re-electionist Diosdado Macapagal, wins the Presidency.

January 26, 1970 - wave of protests known as the "First-Quarter Storm." January 30, 1970 - Students marched down to Malacaang Palace to rally Riot police tried to disperse the demonstrators using a fire truck, later on there were gunshots, which killed a handful of protesters.

June 1971 - Constitutional Convention organizes to replace the 1935 Constitution Marcos wanted a shift to Parliament system unlimited times to run for presidency August 21, 1971 - Two hand grenades are thrown at the stage of Liberal Party rally at Plaza Miranda. September 23, 1972 - President Marcos declares martial law Opposition leaders and media personalities are detained, among them Senators Benigno Aquino and Jose Diokno January 1973 - The final drafts of the 1973 Constitution, approved by the Convention in the absence of opposition delegates, March 1973 - the 1973 Constitution is in force. July 27, 1973 - President Marcos holds a poll to find out if the people want him to continue serving beyond his term so he can finish the reforms he began under martial law. 1978, six years into martial law, Marcos was feeling good about his power. Marcos successfully formed diplomatic ties with China and Libya, these countries are supporting communists and Muslim rebels Nur Misuari, leader of MNLF signed a peace treaty agreement Several leaders of the NPA had been captured and detained or had defected Ninoy Aquino and other political prisoners had been sentenced to death April 6,1978 (eve of the election day)

A new form of protest was organized and imposed a threat in Martial Law There was a noise barrage in Manila wherein the people made noise using pots, honks etc. on the streets as a form of protest. April 7, 1978 - All the candidates under Marcos Party won the elections

1980 - Ninoy had a heart attack - Marcos allowed Ninoy to go to US for a heart bypass surgery June 16, 1981 - 1st presidential elections since the declaration of martial law August 21, 1983 Ninoy was assassinated as soon as he landed in the Philippines Two million people joined Ninoys funeral. It triggered more Filipino People to fight for their rights. Ninoy became a symbol of People Power Revolution May of 1984, Marcos held elections for the National Assembly 1/3 of the opposition candidates won the election November 3, 1985 snap elections December 3, 1985 - Corazon Aquino declares her candidacy for President. February 15, 1986 - The Batasang Pambansa proclaims Marcos the winner as opposition assemblymen walk out. February 16, 1986 - Corazon Aquino leads the People's Victory Rally at the Luneta February 22, 1986 - Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and General Fidel Ramos announce their withdrawal of support for President Marcos and call for his resignation. February 25, 1986 - Corazon Aquino takes her oath of office as the seventh President of the Republic. In the evening, Marcos, realizing the futility of his stand, flees Malacanang with his family and supporters.
