Headmasters Corner
Congratulations to Imogen Rees, Elliot Orchard and Otto Cullis who have all been offered places at Clifton High on the back of their excellent performance in the recent Entrance Examinations. Special praise however must be given to Imogen who has received a Scholarship. We congratulate too Charlie Sanzo on his outstanding performance in the entrance examinations to Colstons. I know he impressed all with both the standard of his work and by his level of confidence; well done Charlie! These are tremendous results and to be offered places into Senior Schools so early in the year is testament to the standards that they are achieving; well done. A belated welcome to Tockington Manor to Pablo Perez who joins us from Spain for one year. Pablo is a qualified teacher and shall be carrying out a variety of roles within the school including the very popular Spanish clubs. I am delighted to announce that Sean Conway will be visiting the school on 24th February to speak to Year 2 and above about his many adventures. I would like to extend a warm welcome to parents as well as I know we will all be keen to hear what he has to say. Sean will arrive here at 1.30 on 24th February and shall commence his presentation at 2.00pm. If you would like to find out more please visit his web site www.seanconway.com We look forward to seeing you at the Burns Night tomorrow evening but in advance I would like to thank Mrs Nicola Duncan and Amanda Symonds for the many hours they have put into organising what will, we are sure, be a very successful evening. I thank too Mrs Leonora Martin for her assistance with the art work for tomorrow.

Swimming News
IAPS Regional Swimming at Clifton College - Tuesday 11th February The IAPS team has now been selected. The competition is very tough and swimmers should be congratulated on being selected. It will be a steep learning curve. Over 4000 swimmers take part in this competition so please wish them all luck. Swimarathon - Friday 28th February 6.15pm Any Year 5-8 swimmer may sign up for the annual Swimarathon at Thornbury Leisure Centre. We have two lanes booked at 6. 15 pm. Please email or write a note stating that your son or daughter would like to take part. Two very keen swimmers have already handed in their forms before I asked for them- very impressive! Once selected, sponsorship forms and further details will be given to the relevant swimmers. We have beaten our targets over the last three years but smashing the barriers in 55 minutes is getting much harder! We have won our slots each year with impressive tallies and raised money for local charities. It is always a fun night with bands playing and excited swimmers ploughing up and down the pool. Any swimmer who would like to take part should contact me as soon as possible. Year 4 Year 4 have made a magnificent start to the term and are now completing work that much older swimmers were once asked to do. They are the best divers in the school and have gained stars as a class for their efforts each week. Well done Year 2 Well done to Year 2 who produced excellent improvements in front crawl. Swimming Gala v St Edwards & Wycliffe Our U9 U10 and U11 swimmers were out in force at a friendly triangular swim meet at Wycliffe on Thursday. Our small squads naturally suffer in relays, but the performances of all were superb. Behaviour was generally good and the Year 6 team of Ella, Helena, Alex Grocott, Ellie and Alex Jacobi should be congratulated on good performances and excellent leadership skills. Winning swims came in the U9 girls medley, U9 boys free relay and U10 girls free relay, as well as individual firsts for: Iona Campbell (back), Jake Wakeling (back and crawl); Jonathan Baguley (back); Helena Brain (back) Alex Jacobi (breaststroke) and Rachel Shutt (crawl). The final points were TMS (72), Wycliffe (70) and St Edwards (59) less is more! Well done and thanks to the army of Mums and Dads who transported and came to watch

Big Garden Birdwatch - 25th & 26th January

This weekend the RSPB is inviting everyone to take part in the world's largest bird survey - the 'Big Garden Birdwatch'. You'll be providing the charity with a vital snapshot of the UK's bird population - so whatever age and wherever you are in the UK, nature needs your help! All you need to do is grab a pen and paper, then spend one hour jotting down the highest number of each bird species you spot on the ground at any one time that visit your garden (or even a local park). Afterwards, simply enter what you've found at www.rspb.org.uk or pick up an entry form from a garden centre. Good luck and happy bird watching!
