13% of all US births are to teens.

Factoids from Alan Guttmacher Institute - 1995 - US Teenagers:
At age 15, 75% are virgins.
At age 17, 50% are virgins.
At age 20, 20% are virgins.

Every year on average 50.000 girls under 18 fall pregnant. A report on the health
department website shows that there has been progress towards the target which has
been met but warns that ‘progress needs to accelerate’ for the target to be met fully.
Overall the number of pregnancies has gone up to more than 47,000 a year, this was
similar in the 1970’s across western Europe, but this is not the case in other states, in
other states they have had a success in bringing down the figures of pregnancies,
Britain now has the highest teenage birth rate.

The number of teenage pregnancies ending in abortion rose. In 2005, 47 per cent of
pregnancies among 16- and 17-year-olds were terminated, compared with 42 per cent
in 1998. Among younger girls, the rate rose from 53 per cent to 58 per cent.

Why do so many teenagers get pregnant?

So many teenagers now get pregnant because in school they learn about sex education
without having the knowledge of love or knowledge meaning of marriage says Dr
Rajlakshmi Darbari.
The NHS says to have sex without marriage is good for your health, because of this
statement teenagers get thinking that it is okay for them to have sex at a young age
which then results in them getting pregnant.

The table above shows the teenagers aged between 15-19 year olds, first intercourse,
live births and abortion rates in united states, Netherlands, Germany and France.
So many teenagers are now having sex you do no think about after sex which may
lead to getting pregnant and because so many of these girls are young they are jus not
ready to settle sown and have children.

gers_having_abortions/

There are a number of reasons as to why teenagers are having abortions one of them is
that whilst being in a relationship and in the first 12 months of sexual activity women
are still deciding what contraception to use, and by then it is too late and the teenage
pregnancy occur round about this time. According to Terri Foran the medical director
of FPA health most teenagers will choose just one form of contraception which
usually is condoms which has a five-seven percent failure rate. Majority of the times
sex is not planned it is something which happened when you least expect it and at a
young age the one thing you do is not plan for a baby you just think about having sex,
which then may lead to being pregnant so this is another reason why so many
teenagers are having abortions because becoming pregnant is something the teenagers
didn’t think about and are not ready to take that next step of being a parent to their
child.
