PRIMARY MOTION

03

The function of primary motions is to

separate warp yarn and form an opening so weft yarn can be passed inside the shed.

SHEDDING

03

Shedding is the name given to the motion

which moves the healdframes up and down in order to separate the warp sheet into two layers and create a triangle in from of the reed through which the weft can be passed

PICKING

03

Weft Insertion (Picking) is the means by

which the weft is projected through the shed.

This was traditionally by shuttle, but more

recently it is done by projectile, rapier, air jet or water jet.

This requires considerable force, hence the

term beating up.

NECESSITY

03

The primary motion of a loom are essential

because in the absence of the primary motion weaving itself is not possible.
Therefore, primary motions are also termed

as essential motions or fundamental motions.

NECESSITY
These three motions are essential for cloth manufacturing,

03

in the sequence only

Session

NECESSITY

03

i.e. first a shed is to be formed, then pick

should be inserted and finally the pick should be beaten up to the fell of cloth.
