Tit 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order
the things that are wanting, and ordain in every city, as I had appointed
thee:
And this from Matthew Henry Concise Commentary: Tit 1:5-9
The character and qualification of pastors, here called elders and
bishops, agree with what the apostle wrote to Timothy. Being such bishops
and overseers of the flock, to be examples to them, and God's stewards to
take care of the affairs of his household, there is great reason that they
should be blameless. What they are not to be, is plainly shown, as well as
what they are to be, as servants of Christ, and able ministers of the letter
and practice of the gospel. And here are described the spirit and practice
becoming such as should be examples of good works.
My hope is that the new Coral Ridge will stand by the doctrines of the
Westminster Confession of Faith, and the doctrines preached over the past
49 Years. 1 It was never the change in the Pastor the opposition was upset
with, but the change in the message preached by Rev. Tchvidjian. "There
has been a very vocal minority that has, from the very beginning, opposed
my leadership because I was not Dr. Kennedy," 2 The next complaint was
the way any opposition was handled by the Ruling Elders. The use of
intimidation, the twisting of facts, and “They will not entertain and
challenges by questions though they may acknowledge a concern of what
you are seeing. They feign compassion and response to individual needs
when they are really more concerned of the whole congregation.” They are
more concerned about legitimizing the path they want the church to take.
In the end we are all responsible to God for the way we conduct ourselves
in this world. The message we proclaim, and the way we treat our fellow
members. I would hope that the leaders of the new Coral Ridge
Presbyterian church would exercise the traits of leadership expressed in
Titus 1:5-9.
