Deputy Mayor, City of Seattle, WA January 2010 - December 2013
LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT

Provided executive oversight for six City department including Human Services Department, Office of Housing, Seattle Office of Civil Rights, Department of Neighborhoods, Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, and Office of Economic Development; Managed a staff of five direct reports, primarily senior policy analysts; Formed and led Inter-Departmental Teams (IDTs) to bring together departmental staff and community stakeholders across siloes to address key issues, including homeless encampments and public safety. Chaired the Mayors task force on homeless encampments that made policy recommendations for unsheltered individuals, and families; Spearheaded the Women and Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE) Inclusion Plan which tripled the Citys WMBE contracting, taking WMBE contracting to record levels and garnering national attention. Chaired the New Market Tax Credit Committee; Represented the Office of the Mayor in international economic development meetings and events in Chongqing China, Kobe Japan, and Kaohsiung Taiwan; Represented the Office of the Mayor in Washington DC to develop the City of Seattles green jobs initiative; Represented the Office of the Mayor at a convening sponsored by Community Partners in Los Angeles to initiate equitable development policy as part of Seattles HUD Challenge Grant. Developed the Mayors signature civic engagement strategy dubbed Engage Seattle which resulted in over 150 town halls, walking tours, and community forums to provide opportunities for citizen dialogue with the Executive and Departmental leadership; Helped lead the formation of Seattles first Community Policy Commission which will result in recommendations for reform of police recruitment, training and field protocol.

LEAD AGENT ON HOPE 6 REDEVELOPMENT

Represented two single family developers to market the first market-rate units in the redeveloped New Holly, Rainier Vista and Othello Station Hope 6 redevelopments from the projects inception; Identified local purchasers and facilitated complex deals to rehabilitate neglected properties in the Columbia City business district of Seattles Rainier Valley to facilitate local ownership and investment in the neighborhood.

Great City brought housing, neighborhood, environmental, and developer interests under one tent to make meaningful reccomendations to Seattle City government, and regional stakeholders on issues around sustainable and equitable growth;

Member, Seattle Bridging the Gap Levy Oversight Committee, January December 2007

After the successful passage of the Citys first Bridging the Gap Levy, helped prioritize projects for allocation of funds;

Chair, Seattle Citizens Transit Advisory Council (CTAC), October 2004 January 2005
Identified a $500 million backlog in deferred maintenance in Seattles Department of Transportation, analyzed a variety of funding mechanisms, ultimately making recommendations adopted by the Mayor, and City Council which led to the Bridging the Gap Levy;

President, Rainier Chamber of Commerce, 2004-2005

Developed comprehensive Rainier Valley marketing plan; Served on the Jobs/Business Development and Physical Development Committees for the Mayors Southeast Action Agenda; Increased Chamber membership by 18%; Founded the Rainier Valley Spoken Word Festival; Provided technical assistance and sponsorship to help launch with Ethiopian Chamber; Formed the citywide Alliance of Neighborhood Chamber.
