DAVID AND YOLANDA FOSTER INVITE US INTO THEIR JAW-DROPPING MALIBU MANSION
TO LIFT THE LID ON TINSELTOWN LOVE AND LIFESTYLES
The couple, who have been married for two years, were introduced by Netherlands-born Yolandas rst husband, property developer Mohamed Hadid, in 2006, with whom she has three children, Gigi, now 18, Bella, 17, and 14-year-old Anwar. (This is the fourth marriage for David, who has ve daughters ranging in age from 27 to 45.) Yolanda looks as young as in her modelling days, even though she has just celebrated her 50th birthday. Her health, however, has not been as strong. In 2012, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness that, she says, brought me to my knees. Opening their home exclusively to Hello!, Yolanda and David reveal all about their romance, living with a debilitating condition and why even all those Grammys arent enough to satisfy Davids creative ambition. Happy belated birthday, Yolanda. What did you do to celebrate? I didnt want to do anything this year because Ive been sick for 18 months. But David surprised you anyway. Yes. I was in my kitchen when all of a sudden my mother and brother walked in. I almost had a heart attack. David had own them over from hes one of the most popular stars of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with one S of the most accomplished husbands, Canadian music legend David Foster but youre unlikely to catch Yolanda Hadid Foster strolling on Rodeo Drive. I couldnt live in Beverly Hills, says the former model, perched on a couch in the Malibu mansion home she designed herself. I grew up on a farm and I need to have nature in my life. There could scarcely be a more glamorous location from which to enjoy the great outdoors. As well as a wonderfully fragrant lemon grove and an innity pool, the six-bedroom mansion boasts breathtaking views over the Pacic Ocean, with whales and dolphins often visible from the manicured gardens. But the homes pice de rsistance is the piano that dominates the living space, with the 16 Grammy awards won by David decorating the Yamahas lacquered lid. The honours offer an insight into the illustrious career of the British Columbia-born musician, record producer, composer, singer, songwriter and arranger, who has worked with many of the worlds top recording artists, including Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson and Madonna.

With its spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the manicured garden complete with infinity pool makes a tranquil spot where the couple can relax. I designed every inch of this place and managed a team of 100 builders, says Yolanda. It was a huge project. I designed it for my family. 10 HELLOMAGAZINE.CA

It was very special. What did David buy you? A beautiful chain of really ne diamonds. I honestly didnt want any gifts. Ill say to him, Write me a love letter instead, as it means much more. David: When she says, Id rather have a letter than a present, she absolutely means it. At Christmas, I wrote her a lengthy letter I spent two or three days on it, as it doesnt ow for me naturally. When I gave it to her, youd have thought Id given her a milliondollar bracelet. How does it feel to be 50, Yolanda? Its huge 12 HELLOMAGAZINE.CA

and I love it. Aside from my health issues, this is the best time in my life. Ive raised three extraordinary children, I have found the love of my life and Im really enjoying being married. Growing older doesnt seem to faze you. Joyce [Giraud de Ohoven] on the show called me an old lady. I thought, You wait till you get to my age. I have had my health taken away from me. All that matters to me is that I can get up in the morning and use my brain. If someone looks at me and thinks that Im an old woman, then who cares? David, you made a video detailing all the things that you love about your wife. Have you always been romantic? No. Im Canadian and were not all that demonstrative. I think all my romance comes out in my music

and theres nothing left for real life. Yolanda is a diehard romantic, though, and she has brought it out of me. Why did you say you require a lot of understanding? I havent necessarily put things in the right order in my life. I suspect that family should come rst, but I dont know if its possible to put family rst and also be super successful in your career. Its a constant struggle. Are you a perfectionist? I like to win. I ercely hate failure. As long as Im working, Im going to work to win. When I make a record that doesnt work, I want to kill myself. Its a strange phenomenon, as you can make ve records in a row that work and then you apply those same techniques to the sixth record and it ops. My motto is, Good is the enemy of great and I try to live my life like that. Yolanda, youve started a company called Hopelessly Romantic to help
couples stay connected. You and David have a very strong chemistry. What are your key tips? Its hard work to keep romance in a relationship. Ive been cheated on and had my condence shaken. Its not about the buying; its about the simple things that make women feel appreciated. After the rst year in a relationship, you start seeing things you dont like. At some point you have to take responsibility and say, Im going to work on this. If my husband likes me to wear lingerie or make him pancakes once in a while, Im going to do it. You can keep changing partners but the same issues will keep arising. Do you think its a big part of a womans role to be a homemaker? I take it very seriously. Its not only my job to make my home the best for my husband my king but also for my children. I love it when my husband says, Im proud this is my home and my woman. Some people might

Every night of the week, I sit down with my children to eat. Even if I have an engagement somewhere, I will sit with them before I go out. There are so many dysfunctional kids in this town and a lot of them hardly see their parents. That connection with your husband and your kids is so important. David: She creates the most wonderful home. I love coming home to her. I love going to sleep with her and waking up next to her. Yolanda, why do you think there are so few successful marriages in Hollywood? I think that there are too many options in this town. There 16 HELLOMAGAZINE.CA
are a lot of girls here with no morals they will sleep with your husband for a Chanel bag. Breaking up someones marriage means nothing to them. Here, you see 65-year-old guys with 25-year-old girls. Its not normal. You have rst-hand experience of extramarital affairs. My rst marriage broke down because of my ex-husbands indelity. At that time I felt that I had failed. My dad died when I was very young and I always felt that I wanted to raise a family with a father in the house it was so important to me. Even though it wasnt my fault, I still felt a lot of responsibility. I focused solely on my kids. I didnt date for seven years. But it was your ex-husband who introduced you
to David. Mohamed kept saying, I dont want you to be alone. I was really happy being with my children, raising my family. One night he threw a dinner party for me but I pulled out. He was quite upset with me. He said, Youre going to grow old alone. If you think someones going to ring your doorbell in Santa Barbara, youre wrong. When he calmed down, he told me that one of the guys who came to the dinner party saw a photo of me and said, I want to meet that woman, shes gorgeous. David got my number and he drove down to Santa Barbara to meet me. We had a six-hour dinner and weve been together ever since. David had been married three times before. Did that concern you? Not really. I think I got

apartment, happy as a clam. He loved that simple lifestyle. After a couple of years, the conversation came up because I was building this house. The market had just collapsed and I had trouble getting my construction loans. I really needed his nancial help and that changed the dynamic. Because of the problems, it became our house. I remember asking, How are we going to do this? Am I going to move in with my kids or are you going to move in, too? So you ended up living together almost by accident. Yes. He was still adamant that he didnt want to get married, so I said, I will never talk about getting married but just keep one thing in mind I will love you, I wont complain about it, I wont nag you, but one day I might wake up and be done. I might think, You missed your chance. The proposal must have been a surprise. I kept my word and never brought it up again. One Christmas, we were at Mohameds house with all the kids and David went down on one knee and proposed. I said, Why here? In my exhusbands house? He said it was because it was the rst place he ever laid eyes on me. He had asked all my kids for their permission, which I thought was incredibly sweet. What changed your mind, David? Without any disrespect to my previous wives, I honestly feel like Yolandas just the greatest, greatest woman. She always has my back, unconditionally. Obviously shes beautiful and Im wildly attracted to her, but when you peel back that layer, youre left with the rest of the stuff and as you get older, its that stuff thats more important. Were just really great pals and I really want to grow old with her. Its just a great feeling. You have eight children between you. Yolanda: Step-parenting is the hardest job anybody can do. Were making it work because I love my husband and its about the two of us. All those children are going to move on, get married, have their own families. I try my hardest: I invite everybody the ex-wives, their new boyfriends, my ex-husband for Christmas and Thanksgiving and hope that they can all gure it out. At the end of the day, were family. David, youve had an astonishing career. Do any of your collaborations stand out? I try not to look back on my career too often because sometimes when I reect, it feels as though Ive accomplished nothing. The highlights? Working with Earth, Wind & Fire in the 1970s, hooking up with the band Chicago in the mid-1980s, working with Celine Dion, doing the soundtrack to The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston, working with Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie; when the Top 40 thing stopped working for me, writing for Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bubl and Josh Groban Its propelled me to this moment. my husband at the right time. It probably wouldnt have worked 20 years ago as he wouldnt have had the tools to deal with me. Timing is everything and Im not intimidated by someones past. If you can be honest about things and say, I screwed up here. I never did this for her so Ill do it for you, then it can only be a positive thing. He was reluctant to marry again. He said, I will never get married again. I will never raise another set of children. When we met, he was living in a small

Who would you most like to collaborate with now? Sting. I love his music. Were acquaintances and weve talked about working together, but he obviously does very well without me. Ill have to do a bit more convincing. You were honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. My star is right beside the Beatles, whose music changed my life, and outside Capitol Records, which is where I got my rst recording contract. It all just made such perfect sense. Its John, Paul, George and Ringo, Buddy Holly, then me. I feel pretty good about that. Yolanda, what was the inspiration behind your design of the house? I designed every inch of this place and managed a team of 100 builders. I designed it for my family. I need to stay connected to the earth and this house is very attuned to nature. It was a much bigger project than I had anticipated. Im a perfectionist even the mulch on the driveway has to look a certain way and with a house this size, its very hard to stay on top of everything. 18 HELLOMAGAZINE.CA
Sounds like youre planning to downsize. Yes. My daughter Gigi is already in college and my younger daughter Bella is leaving this summer. It will just be the three of us David, me and my son Anwar at home and this is a lot of house for three people. I loved this house because it was a home for all of us, but I could be as happy somewhere half the size. I can make a home anywhere. Yolanda, you suffer from Lyme disease. How did you get diagnosed? A few months before my wedding, I started having trouble recalling peoples names and I was feeling generally run down. The doctor said I was just working too hard. During my rst season of Housewives, my body started shutting down I couldnt read, write or even remember the alphabet and I couldnt get out of bed some days. I had the best doctors in the world, who had no idea [what was wrong]. They thought it must be chronic fatigue syndrome. The best doctor for that lives in Belgium, so we ew there. He diagnosed me with chronic neurological Lyme disease. Its a disease that you cant see from the outside, so people

think youre OK, but its a devastating condition. It brought me to my knees. David: Yolanda is not a whiner, shes not a complainer. When she got sick, it was shocking as she is the last person on the planet who youd think could go down. Im starting to see an improvement and she looks at me once in a while and thanks me for standing by her. I think we can all be thankful for a lot of things, but that surely shouldnt be one of them. ts been only a few weeks since Zara Phillips and her husband, Mike Tindall, I welcomed their rst daughter the Queens fourth great-grandchild Mia Grace, in the early hours of Jan. 17, but the Olympic equestrian and her rugby coach husband are already feeling like old pros at parenthood. Its been fun so far. At the moment [Mias] been very good, and the nights havent been too bad, revealed proud father Mike. The girls are both doing great. Of course, Zara, 32, has had plenty of practice with kids. Shes a doting aunt to her brother Peters two children, Savannah, 3, and 22-month-old Isla, and is also godmother to Prince George, the baby son of her cousin and his wife, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The arrival of her daughter, however, is the realization of a lifelong dream. Zara and Mike, who married in 2011 at Edinburghs Canongate Kirk, waited until silver medal winner Zaras 2012 Olympic campaign was over to start their family. Weve probably

Weve found the right time, its perfect for Zara and it wasnt going to change a huge amount for me. He added: It probably happened quicker than we thought. Bit of a shock, really. The trio is now happily ensconced at Gatcombe Park, Princess Annes estate in Gloucestershire, where theyve been since Zara gave birth at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Little Mia weighed a healthy seven pounds, 12 ounces at the time of birth and is believed to have been delivered naturally. Zara and her baby left the hospital which is public, rather than private hours after the birth to return to her mothers estate. Denitely the best day of my life today, so happy, said Mike, 35, on Twitter. Given that Zara was named at the suggestion of her uncle Prince Charles the Greek word for as bright as dawn, it makes sense that the royal rebel would choose an equally unconventional and beautiful name for her first-born, Mia Grace. According to Zaras brother, Peter, There isnt any reason for them choosing the name they just liked it.
MIA GRACE
Little Mia has actress Mia Farrow to thank for popularizing her first name in the 1960s. The moniker means mine in Latin, and is also a short form of Maria in Spanish, which translates to star of the sea.

QUITS HIS DREAM JOB AS AN APACHE PILOT TO TAKE ON A NEW MISSION IN LONDON
he rst day of a new job can be nerve-racking, but Prince Harry neednt feel any T jitters. The royal who announced last month that he was stepping down from his role as a combat Apache pilot to ght for another cause in the military, supporting wounded servicemen and women will surely receive a heros welcome when he starts his desk job at HQ London District this month. The new position as staff ofcer organizing ceremonial army events, such as Trooping the Colour and state visits represents the best of both worlds for the young royal. Harry, 29, had been torn between his love of ying and his dedication to those injured in the line of duty. With this role, Harry will also be better placed to full a personal mission to bring the Warrior Games, the U.S. Paralympicstyle tournament for wounded or ill service members and veterans, to London. On the home front, he will also be able to take on more royal duties and relieve the strain on his 87-year-old grandmother the Queen whos keen for younger members of her family to help ease the load as well as spend more time with his girlfriend of almost two years, Cressida Bonas, 24. However, he is not completely following in the footsteps of his elder brother, the Duke of Cambridge, a former Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot who left operational service in the armed forces in September for a transitional role working to support the Queen and various charitable causes. Harry will retain the rank of captain and will be based at Horse Guards, said a spokesman for Kensington Palace. Harry is keen to stay in uniform as long as possible, telling friends, I want to keep one leg in the army and the other in official work. I dont want to give up the army completely.

The prince graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in 2006 and, a natural flyer, went on to train as an Apache helicopter pilot in 2012. During his military career, he also saw active combat on two tours of Afghanistan. Prince Harry has thoroughly enjoyed his time on attachment to the army air corps and all the challenges it has brought. He considers it a huge honour to have had the chance to undertake an operational deployment to Afghanistan with the Apache force and later become a commander of one of the most advanced aircraft in the world, said a spokesperson. The feeling is mutual. Lt.-Col. Tom de la Rue, who commanded Harry in the army air corps, added, Capt. I hope that in the near future we can bring these games to Britain and enlarge this great cause, he said during his visit, adding that he hoped the spectacle of ex-military athletes would attract huge crowds. As a serviceman targeted by the Taliban, Harry knows how lucky he was to return home unscathed from his two tours of Afghanistan. In his speech at the opening ceremony, he said, I witnessed rst-hand the bravery of our troops not only in confronting the dangers of the battleeld, but also its tragic consequences lifechanging wounds and the death of friends. Although the government has not given the green light to the idea of Britain hosting the Warrior Games, it is believed this is just a formality and that the event may be staged at the former Olympic Stadium, in what is now known as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. ROCH V O I S I N E: DESTINED FOR SOCHI
Sport remains one of Roch Voisines biggest passions. The singer, who has sold 12 million albums worldwide and enjoyed hits in both official languages (1989s Hlne and 1993s Ill Always Be There), once aspired to be a professional hockey player until a serious injury ended those hopes. He did get to lace up his skates as an actor, though, appearing on the TV series Lance et Compte (He Shoots, He Scores). Now, much to his delight, Roch (who is about to release his greatest-hits album My Very Best), is going to Sochi with his latest song, Living Out My Dreams, Canadas official Olympic song. We asked the Juno winner, who divides his time between Paris and Montreal, for his reflections on the Games. Whats your favourite Olympic memory? The mens hockey finals in Vancouver. I was there working for Frances TV network. I was an analyst at the hockey games and Ill never forget it, with Sid the Kid scoring the winning goal. Who is your personal Olympic hero or heroine? I have a few, but I think Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, who won three gold medals at the Montreal Games in 1976. She made the most impact on me when I was a child. EXTRA
By Nicholas Jennings
Artists like Cher have been vocal about not wanting to support Russias discriminatory policies. Do you have any qualms about going to Sochi? The Games should be neutral and not be altered in any way by politics. Obviously, its not always the case. But I, for one, strongly believe in Baron Pierre de Coubertins original idea for the Olympics. Its a worldwide display of talent and excellence. The Games have been tested before and theyve always prevailed and they will again.

Kylie fans may have worried that their heroine was going hip hop after learning that the Aussie pop star had signed to Jay Zs Roc Nation management company. But fear not. Judging by the first single from her forthcoming album, Kiss Me Once, the Timebomb singer is heading straight back to the dance floor. Over soaring synths and a driving beat, a defiant Kylie, who battled breast cancer in 2005, sings about staying strong in the face of adversity. When I got my back against the wall, dont need no one to rescue to me, goes the chorus, Cause I aint waiting up for no miracle, yeah tonight Im running free. The euphoria that the track exudes is undeniably contagious. The song is really special to me, says Kylie, who is currently starring in TVs The Voice Australia. It encapsulates a lot of what Ive been feeling. That joyous dance floor groove bodes well for her new album.

Andy Garcia
The Hollywood godfather on marriage, family ties and how his kids keep him hip
Andy Garcia could look to his own past for inspiration when making his new romantic comedy, At Middleton, about two parents who meet and fall head over heels while taking their teens on a college tour. When I met my wife in a bar in 1975, I proposed to her that same night, Andy tells Hello! Canada. Almost 40 years and four children later, hes still smitten. And these days, the Oscar nominee, 57, is busier than ever. At Middleton, which costars Vera Farmiga and Andys daughter Daniella Garcia-Lorido, is one of four lms he has in the works in 2014, including Rob the Mob, Rio 2 and Lets Be Cops.
level of love you have for your children, to learning patience when youre nurturing their growth. Then, as they get older and develop their point of view, they begin to educate you on whats hip. Such as? Music. Sometimes our tastes will cross over Motown or jazz. But specics like the groups that go to Coachella or rap music ... they have to educate me. Were your three daughters scared to bring guys home? They say their friends were scared of me. As a father you can assess the nature of a friend and you have the instinct to go, This doesnt look good to me. And if that person feels uncomfortable, its a good thing. [Laughs] In At Middleton, your character tells your son, A young man in a tie makes a statement. Do you believe that? My father used to say to me, When you go out on an audition wear a tie. Im going, Dad, not every character has a tie on! But he was old school. Thats something I try to carry on. Whats the secret to your happy marriage? We have a commitment to our family. There are ups and downs, but you have to believe in the institution and the responsibility of that. Part of that commitment, I think, generates a deeper love. Its been almost 25 years since The Godfather: Part III. What did it mean to be part of that movie? Everything. The [rst] Godfather was the main reason I wanted to be an actor. To be included in that trilogy was a great honour.

Its the series every TV fan is jonesing for: the Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul, scheduled to debut in November. In the part of the world where I grew up, they say, Wheres theres muck, theres brass. This statement is rarely wrong. Wherever there are things people nd difcult, dirty or distasteful, there are opportunities to accumulate wealth. Emotionally, we prosper when we nd the courage to recognize the darker side of a situation. I am not saying you need to give full attention to something unappealing. But if you can give it enough to see it for what it is, you will be better off. Ive got helpful advice in your new forecast. Call 1-900-528-8880. From mobile, press # then 5486.
Which came rst, the chicken or the egg? I shall leave you to ponder that while I play you some music. Rum ti tum ... Got the answer yet? Ready for another one? How much of life is predetermined and how much can we inuence through choice? More music? Tiddle, tiddle pom, pom ... These are not the only questions to which you are never going to get a satisfactory answer; however, February brings other issues that you can resolve if you try. February brings an opportunity for change. Call 1-900-528-8880. From mobile, press # then 5486.

Sometimes, we wonder why we bother. We strive so hard. And for what? It often seems as if we are wasting our time. People who sit around doing next to nothing seem to do just as well. Why should we uphold the standards that seem to be such a rarity these days? The answer is that we dont have a choice. Noble folk like you are obliged to do the best they can at all times, regardless of whether or not it pays. This month such dedication will pay in every sense. You are good at giving advice. But you are not always good at taking it. Generally, thats an advantage. It stops you from wavering every time some individual offers you his or her opinion. There are, though, some people who deserve to be listened to. They tend to be the folk who are most reluctant to speak. In February you should feel free to refuse to accept whats being foisted on you, but also consider who you really should consult and ask. Inspiring times await you. Call 1-900-528-8880. Life brings the chance to make a very special wish and have it granted. Think carefully about what to ask for. Dont waste your chance on some small dream that preoccupies you. DAUGHTER OF A ROCK STAR AND A SUPERMODEL
FASHION, FAMILY AND FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS
THE LIFE OF A MODEL IS SO VARIED THAT I NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL BE HAPPENING FROM ONE WEEK TO THE NEXT
winging a pair of skates over her shoulder, model Amber Le Bon S tentatively strides onto the rink at Londons Somerset House. With her runway condence, no doubt inherited from her model mother, Yasmin, and her famous father, Duran Duran frontman Simon, the 24-year-old takes the Hello! photo shoot in her stride, effortlessly gliding with grace and poise and happily giving us a twirl. I love ice skating, Amber says, which could explain her lack of trepidation. Between shots, she giggles as she wraps her long limbs in tin foil to keep warm and tells how dancing in snow boots when she is partying aprs-ski is so much fun. Cradling a mug of steaming hot chocolate to keep warm, the model chats to her agent about the playlist for her other job as a DJ that evening. SNOW SHORTAGE OF WORK With the winning combination of her mothers stunning looks and her fathers musical ear, Amber is in high demand at runway shows and society parties alike. And she isnt afraid of the hard work, especially when she can make it a family affair. A recent shoot for Hello! saw her travel to India with her mother and Daddy came, too. It was so much fun, she says a reection of how close she is to her parents as well as her sisters Saffron, 22, and Tallulah, 19. I love my job, but it is nice to be home for a while, she says with another winning smile. Here, Amber talks to Hello! about her fashion favourites, her plans for 2014 and her four-legged friends. Amber, have you ever been ice skating before? I used to go occasionally when I was younger. At one point my school decided to ask us what we wanted to do in our sports lessons and a group of us decided we wanted to go skating and managed to persuade them of the benets. Somehow we ended up on

I like winter, especially if you can ski. The cold is the best excuse to drink lots of hot chocolate
a minibus once a week heading to the nearest ice rink for an hour. Tell us about the most bizarre shoot youve ever been on. I got to make a fashion video for William Tempest, which wasnt bizarre but different. We shot running around in some woods in Norfolk in January. It was absolutely freezing but so much fun. Between shots someone threw a hot water bottle at me and wrapped me in a foil blanket for 30 seconds and then wed shoot again. The other part of the video was shot in a big underwater tank with really long pieces of chiffon swirling around. It was so much fun. Are you more of a hot weather fan or do you prefer wrapping up for winter? There are great things about both, but like most people, when its hot I wish it was cooler and vice versa. I really enjoy the summer napping in the sun is fantastic. I also like the winter and the snow, though, especially if you can get to ski. The cold is the best excuse to drink lots of hot chocolate and eat fun foods. You look stunning in these Coach pieces. Which are your favourite things from the range? I really like the Urbane cross-body bags as theyre so practical but also really sophisticated. The leather trousers and knitted jumper are quite fabulous, too. The jumper is warm and cozy. Any tips for dressing for the icy weather? Layering is essential. Black ankle socks over your black tights, thin-ish jumpers and a hoodie under a coat, alongside a hat and gloves. When its cold, I usually have a bag big enough to put at least some of my layers in. You must go to a lot of concerts. Have you seen anyone fantastic lately? I think that going to Glastonbury for the rst time and seeing Chic play was probably my highlight of 2013. It was absolutely amazing. You have three dogs. Is your menagerie full now? I would love another puppy but I dont think Ill get one. Taking four dogs out for an evening walk is a lot more trouble than taking three. I had a wonderful experience recently, supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind. I led a catwalk of blind and partially sighted models across Millennium Bridge to help raise awareness of the charity. We each had a puppy who was in training. Mine was a golden retriever and absolutely gorgeous. I wanted to take him home. Whats up next for you? The life of a model is so varied that I never know what will be happening from one week to the next. I love the variety and spontaneity of it all but it does make it difcult to plan sometimes. Im sure I will be doing lots more DJing and hope to spend some more time in New York City. Im quite creative and have a few courses I would like to do. Hopefully, I will be able to t them in around my modelling commitments. What advice would you give your 18-year-old self? I dont think Im old enough to be giving advice to myself yet. So far, there isnt anything I have regretted enough to want to change.

All of the prints are original and new but contain elements that are signature to our main line, says the British designer. Target was open-minded to us doing hundreds of prints, so it was great.

NEW RESOL VE
One month into 2014, is your motivation to get fit starting to flag? Here are 10 simple ways to get back in the game
Getting to the gym tops most peoples new
years resolutions in fact, 51 per cent of Canadians said becoming physically fit was their main goal in 2014. However, improving fitness can feel like one of the hardest resolutions to stick to, especially during the long, cold winter months. If you already nd yourself making excuses to avoid the treadmill, why not try a different approach? We asked top personal trainers Steve Mellor and James Osborn to devise a list of small, steady changes that will get even the most dedicated couch potato ghting t. GET OUTSIDE Yes, its cold but that should prompt you to work harder. As soon as you start moving, your body will warm up; talk about a built-in incentive for action! GO HALVES When it comes to weight loss or toning, long, steady cardio runs are not effective. Instead, cut your session time in half and double the intensity. This will boost your metabolism and burn calories, and by making the sessions half as long, theyre easier to t in. GIVE SPORTS A TRY Taking up a sport like volleyball, dodgeball, indoor tennis, even dancing (a favourite path to tness for stars like Naomi Watts) uses muscles that would usually get neglected. The social aspect also means you are more likely to have fun and stick at it. BE AN EARLY BIRD Working out in the morSetting defined goals and playing sports keep Naomi Watts and Kate Beckinsale on track all year long.
ning ramps up your metabolism and increases blood ow and oxygen uptake. CATCH SOME Zs You should be aiming for seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Regular exercise will improve your quality of sleep. MEGA MAGNESIUM Ensure youre getting enough of the energy-boosting mineral magnesium. Good dietary sources are almonds, spinach and whole grains. DITCH THE WHITE STUFF Avoid sugar and white carbohydrates for four weeks and feel your energy levels soar. Lower-GI carbs like sweet potato, bulgur wheat and quinoa will keep fat storage to a minimum and stabilize blood sugar levels.

LOOK THE PART Investing in exercise gear that makes you look and feel good while keeping you warm is great for motivation. SET A GOAL Kate Beckinsale sticks to her tness goals by keeping her upcoming movie roles in mind. You may not need to squeeze into a catsuit, but research has shown that you are more likely to stick to a plan if you set an achievable goal whether its a vekm run or looking great at a wedding. BE STRONG There is no denying that strong is the new skinny, so dont be afraid to pump some iron.

Is dinner for two on the menu this Valentines Day? Jacob Richler puts the spotlight on 10 celebrity-approved dining destinations across the country that are guaranteed to give you a night to remember
VANCOUVER
HAWKSWORTH RESTAURANT
at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia; hawksworthrestaurant.com
There are a surprising number of elements that need to be exactly right for the sum of the parts to add up to a truly great restaurant and Hawksworth excels at all of them. Above all else it is the modern, imaginative and highly refined cuisine that shines. The Valentines tasting menu includes slow-cooked lobster with corn essence and ends with lemon cream with raspberry and roasted white chocolate. Celebrity diners Sarah McLachlan, Michael Bubl, Robert Redford
There is a unique appeal to old restaurants that still operate at the top of their game. All that practice translates into a place that runs like clockwork; here, this is true of the kitchen, which has been turning out the citys best seafood for more than a decade. Start with a platter of excellent sushi, share a whole Dungeness crab and take advantage of a superlative cellar.

BAR ISABEL
Some restaurants are more about atmosphere than food and this one is a very successfully executed case in point. The new west-end restaurant looks like an old European bistro seasoned with speakeasy. The bar bustles perpetually and the dining room overflows. So if you like mixing date night with loud music, be sure to sample the excellent cocktails and order a wide array of the modestly priced small plates, which are composed with big flavours and a sense of fun.

CALGARY
ONE RESTAURANT
This is the most luxurious restaurant in swanky Yorkville. It combines Yabu Pushelberg design style with a menu built on the idea that genuine indulgence means choosing exactly what you want, right down to your side dish. If your culinary taste runs classical and refined (from spoons of butter-poached lobster to Dover sole and tournedos Rossini), this is very much the place for you. So get started with some Dom Prignon available by the glass, of course. Celebrity diners Bono, Harvey Weinstein

This is one of those rare restaurants that knows exactly what it wants to be, and gets it just right in a way that everyone who enters recognizes immediately and wants to be part of. The convivial vision is all about having good fun while eating expertly prepared, hearty and unpretentious food. Do not miss the mortadella or tuna conserva; then get serious with bone marrow and escargots. All plates are designed to be shared, which is just the ticket for the evening in question. TOQUE!
Toqu! is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year on a high note, with an award-winning first cookbook and, as usual, its place at the top of the citys dining scene entrenched by broad consensus. By any measure, the service and the culinary experience reflect fine dining at its best. Even so, the setting is relaxed and unpretentious, and both presentation and flavour combinations are engagingly whimsical. Go all out and have the tasting menu, with paired wines. Its an experience to remember. Celebrity diner Anthony Bourdain
There is no more storied address in the country than this grand hotel, the original Ritz-Carlton that began the chain and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012 with a $200-million makeover. This restaurant adds to the equation Daniel Boulud one of the greatest French chefs of his generation so a special evening is as good as guaranteed. Kampachi crudo with yuzu and caviar should get things started right; chocolate coulant with caramelized milk ice cream will make for a good end note. Celebrity diners Hugh Grant, Channing Tatum

This is a large, bustling room with a busy bar to boot. What you want is a windowside table, with a lovely view of Halifax harbour. FRESH START
Writing the book has been healing. [It covers her difficult childhood and struggles with anxiety and depression.] Sometimes I said, I cant do this, and yet the story literally had to be told. It felt like I couldnt do anything else in my life until I wrote it.
As Ive become more at peace with myself, theres a freedom. I feel more energetic as I approach 50. [Shes 49.] Life has just gotten better. Were so hypercritical about every line and grey hair. Aging is something we can embrace.
SILKENS CREW
Im happiest as Patch says when all my chickens are home. [She and fianc David Patch PatchellEvans have four teens William and Kate from her first marriage and Davids kids, Tygre and Kilee.] I glow when all four kids are in the nest.
SWEETHEARTS
Patch and I have date nights. Sometimes if hes going to pick up the kids, Ill go with him. Well stop at our favourite coffee shop and share a piece of flourless chocolate cake. Weve been engaged for almost four years and we keep trying to figure out how to [find the time] to get married 2014 is the year!
NO PAIN, NO GAIN
I always think of pain and Im talking the good pain of working out as a positive signal of my effort. Rather than It hurts, I think, Im working hard, thats good! When I would get to a hill, my first running coach would say, Yay, its a hill! And I still do that.
