First I simplify the model (fig 1) to make it easier to understand and manipulate. (i) Copied original model. (ii) Removed equations describing the mesh sizes and inputted the numerical value. Differences between the results in (ii) are attributed to a different mesh. From original and simplified model out files: No. metallic triangles = 501 355 No. aperture triangles = 226 236

I do not understand why the mesh settings have changed. I have directly copied the value from the equation. The equation consists of constant quantities, so I cannot see any reason why this is happening. To assess the seriousness of the situation I will manually modify the mesh and examine the results 1.1.1 Effect of Mesh Size: (i) Original (equation defined) (ii) Duplicate (values) (iii) Coarse mesh for all geometry. (iv) Regular mesh for all geometry. (v) Fine mesh for all geometry. (vi) Adaptive mesh for all geometry. (vii) /300 for all geometry. Results in figure 2.
