he murder of Father Eric Freed has only added to the problems facing Eureka today. Meth issues and rising crime rates call out for stronger reinforcement. So, what's being done? What's ahead for the city of Eureka? Eureka Mayor Frank Jger has seen it all. He's served as Eureka's dogcatcher, was a police officer for seventeen years, became a crime scene evidence technician, and DA investigator. In 1992, he ran for City Council and won, serving two terms, then became County Coroner, serving for eleven years. He retired in 2008, and ran - successfully - for City Council again. In 2010, he was elected Mayor of Eureka. Google Frank's name, and you get the full spectrum, from the Prayer Breakfast controversy to Boy Scouts to this tidbit: A North Coast Journal interview reveals: "What really consumed Jger's young adulthood, however, was mountaineering. For years, he and a buddy traveled all over the place, climbing peaks. We climbed everything: Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Smith Rock State Park, Yosemite. I lived in Yosemite for five or six months. Sierras. Trinity Alps, man, we would go into the Trinity Alps every chance we got. It was just exhilarating, really fun. We did some first ascents -- a couple in Yosemite, and a couple in Smith Rocks, and one of the climbs we did in the Trinity Alps was written up in the American Alpine Club Journal -- "Stonehouse Pinnacle" -- in 1969. And we wrote a climbing guide to Patrick's Point." Join us - and Eureka Mayor Frank Jger - for what promises to be an interesting lunch!

ELECTION DAY... THE 2014 PRIMARIES

Presidents Message Goal Tending:

This last January Jane, Rose, and I attended a GOP campaign school in Santa Rosa led by Elissa Wadleigh, the CRPs Northwest Regional Director, a bright, practical, goal-minded individual who is determined to team up with like-minded individuals to lead us to victory. It was a timely opportunity for us to meet with others around our area who believe in the same destiny. We heard from those who have begun the process of rebuilding the party and their recruiting efforts on behalf of the party, and the implementation of grassroots programs such as Grow Elect, a powerful plan to recruit minorities into the GOP. We work to implement these ideas here in Humboldt County. Goal #1. We returned with our heads spinning, talking about how to reach people in Humboldt County. I personally dont care if the county is 72% Dems! As Ive mentioned, we need to find common ground and not go political. Do they want to continue with government out of control and daily seeing our God-given rights taken away from us? Do any of you need me to delineate what is meant by this? I think not. You see it each day in the lies, excuses, and the blame game coming out of Washington D.C. and Sacramento: Government gone awry. It is my deep belief that we have more in common with common sense Democrats than we can imagine, but the psychological divide has taken its toll. Lets begin thinking of ways to encourage reason between us and work together toward decreasing government intrusion into our lives. We certainly know the areas. Goal #2. Attending the January GOP conference gave us the opportunity to meet with like-minded individuals. Enough of the past. Rebuild. How? Goal #3. Communication and research. Commitment. Time. Sacrifice. Unity. Unity of purpose! We continue to attend campaign workshops, connect with others with the same goals. We collect ideas and determine our plan; we cannot do anything without your help. We will be successful with you and those you know on board with us. No fear. If I had allowed fear to control me, I would never have accepted my position as your president; nor would I have run for political office. Fear paralyzes. Be done with that nonsense! We need you and we need victory! How will you help bring victory in our local elections? Will you volunteer to run voters to the polls? Will you stuff envelopes? Will you contribute to candidates? Will you host a get out the vote party for a candidate? Will you sign up to volunteer to make calls? We need many of you. Will you walk for our candidates? Many hands make little work for all, the ultimate goal - victory. Needless to say, Im looking forward to hearing from Eureka Mayor Frank Jger at our meeting on February 20. Additionally, we hope you liked last months venue and if you would like to repeat the experience, please let us know. Blessings,

Americanism

From CFRW
President Obama gave this year's State of the Union address. Declaring 2014 to be a 'year of action,' he proposed many of the same initiatives that he did in last year's State of the Union address, although his tone was much different this year.

1. I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry
whatever I want. I've decided to marry my German Shepherd.

Top 10 Reasons to Vote Democrat

2. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companys' profits of 4% on a 3. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better
job of spending the money I earn than I would.

gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

4. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as

nobody is offended by it. 5. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. I am also thankful that we have a 911 service that gets police to your home in order to identify your body after a home invasion. 6. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive and comfy. health care, education and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the social security from those who paid into it. 8. I voted Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit. 9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free

10. I voted Democrat because I think it's better to pay billions for their
oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish.

The speech was heavy on future executive action, representing a 9 to 2 ratio compared to last year's address: This year's State of the Union address was heavy on threats of executive action circumventing Congress. Nine times the President alluded to using executive action to further his agenda. In last year's State of the Union address, he mentioned using executive action only twice. The President put more emphasis on some issues this year by forecasting executive action: The tone shift from last year's speech and this year's speech is apparent in the way Obama talked about actions he wants Congress to take. Last year, Obama explicitly appealed to Congress eight times to pass legislation on a range of issues including manufacturing hubs, natural gas technology, refinancing, higher education, immigration, cyber security, and gun control. This year, Obama appealed to Congress with as much frequency, but he often couple the request with a declaration of executive action on issues such as help for the natural gas industry and unemployment insurance. The President's appeals to Congress shifted in tone between last year's address and this year's: Towards the end of his address last year, Obama said, "I recognize that in our democracy, no one should just take my word for it that we're doing things the right way. So in the months ahead, I will continue to engage Congress..." This year, Obama declared near the beginning of the speech that "Some [proposals] require Congressional action, and I'm eager to work with all of you. But America does not stand still--and neither will I. So wherever and whenever I can take steps without legislation to expand opportunity for more American families, that's what I'm going to do." Another example of the tone shift is the juxtaposition of the President's appeal for gun control measures last year and this year: Last year, making the State of the Union address two months after the Newtown massacre, Obama said on the topic of gun control: "Each of these proposals deserves a vote in Congress. Now, if you want to vote no, that's your choice. But these proposals deserve a vote." In last night's State of the Union address, Obama addressed gun control by saying, "Citizenship means standing up for the lives that gun violence steals from us each day. I have seen the courage of parents, students, pastors, and police officers all over this country who say 'we are not afraid,' and I intend to keep trying, with or without Congress, to help stop more tragedies from visiting innocent Americans in our movie theaters, shopping malls, or schools like Sandy Hook."

Statewide Primary Elections Coming up: June 3

The Humboldt County Elections Office does a great job providing needed information for both voters and candidates. From the election calendar, listing of qualifications and salary info, signage and mailing guidelines, the elections website is designed to make things user-friendly. As you can see, we have a pretty full slate this election season. Four candidates have already announced that they're running to replace outgoing District Attorney Paul Gallegos; Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass and Fifth District Supervisor Ryan Sundberg have announced that they are running for re-election. Eureka City Council elections for Mayor, Ward 1, 3 and 5 will be held November 2. Watch HRWFs website for news as it develops.
