Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Like many of you, I saw the movie some years about the Apollo space program, entitled The Right Stuff. It was Hollywoods attempt over several hours to capture the grit, determination, and courage of our first astronauts. Those, like Chuck Yaeger, who broke the sound barrier, and hotshot fighter pilots like John Glenn pioneered outer space. God wants us to have the right stuff of seeking Him as we break the barriers of inertia and the sin gravity which weighs us down. Jesus calls us to keep on asking, seeking, and knocking (Matthew 7:7). I trust that your spiritual appetite has been whetted through recent messages, materials, and the encouragement of the entire church to go to higher ground. He is calling us to trust Him to the hilt and seek first His kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33). As A.W. Tozer has written, there are no ceilings on Christs likeness We can have as much of God as we want. Seeking tests our earnestness and determination to climb higher in the sincerity of seeking the Lord with all of our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13). Are you willing to go higher and deeper? Dont you want to see Him working on your behalf as you wait for Him (Isaiah 64:4)? Seeking and asking certainly go together. Most of us ask; when we do not receive immediately, we tend to not bother to ask again or to seek the Lord. However, seeking is not really Gods Plan B, but actually His Plan A. He lures us to keep asking so that we will develop our ability to ascend to the Lord with clean hands and a pure heart. Only then will we receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of our salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob (Psalm 24:3-6). The blessing of being hungry and thirsty for righteousness (Matthew 5:6) is only for those who are willing to seek not just Gods hand, but also His face as you get to know Him. Seeking God generally goes through these stages: 1) Duty When you know in your heart that it is the right thing to do and not just going beyond the call of duty. 2) Desire When you are passionately yearning to know Him more and better. 3) Decision When you do not delay, but act and obey, knowing the will of God and taking it with both hands into your lifestyle. 4) Determination When you refuse to allow hindrances. 5) Discipline When you continue that long obedience in the same direction. 6) Discovery When you realize what God meant when He said, Whoever finds Me finds life and receives favor from the Lord (Proverbs 8:35). 7) Delight The joy of pleasing Him and basking in His presence. You might as well admit, along with the astronauts, Houston we have a problem. Tell God in Heaven how you have gone out of His orbit, but need for Him to will and do of His good pleasure in and through you (Philippians 2:13).

Janet Wicker will teach from a study she has written titled Trustworthy: A Study of the Letter to Titus -- What to Do When you Wait! This little letter gives relevant counsel about living in expectant faithfulness until Jesus returns. It also specifically challenges spiritually mature women to disciple younger women in the faith so that the gospel will have a joy-filled voice in a culture that doubts it. Join us on Tuesday, Feb 25 at 9:00am or on Wednesday, Feb 26 at 6:30pm in the Worship Center for this groundbreaking study.

In preparation for the Car Care event in March, we want to be equipped to share the hope and love of Jesus. A light meal will be served at the training.
