FROM THE PASTOR

I learned this week of a guest in our worship services who attended with his wife a couple of weeks ago. He wasnt from a church background that focused on the gospel and didnt know quite what to make of all our talk of Jesus, the gospel and how a person can have their sins forgiven and start a new life through Gods mercy. In the course of the mornings sermon, the man heard me explain the way anyone can receive Jesus simply by repenting of their sins and inviting Jesus into their lives through faith. The words we use dont matterits not like you have to have some sort of degree in religion in order to use the proper language. What matters is the attitude of our hearts. Through the following week he wrestled with what wed talked about in the message, especially the part about turning your life over to Jesus. But he couldnt quite recall the prayer Id suggested people pray if they wanted Jesus in their lives. When he returned the following week hoping to learn more we went through the prayer again in the course of the message. This time, though, he prayed along with me and in his heart received Jesus as his Savior and Lord. What a blessing it was when someone in our church family relayed that story to me! I couldnt wait for you to hear it. Each week in our worship services, in our Sunday School classes, in our children and student groups, there are people hungry to learn about Jesus. And Im so excited that you, as a fellowship of Jesus followers, are hungry to share that good news with others. Our churchs mission is to make disciples of Jesus in Lexington and around the world, and every time we share the good news of Jesus with the people around us, were doing just what God calls us to do. On March 2 we begin an exciting, new chapter in our churchs life as we consolidate into a single style of worship. You can find elsewhere in this edition of The Signal the details of the shift in the Sunday morning schedule, but I wanted to mention a few final points: Remember that the two most important things you can do for your church during these days of transition are to pray and be patient. Go out of your way to greet people you havent seen before at worship. Not only will you be meeting people for the first time whove been going to one of the other services, youll also be greeting people new to our church. Were seeing many new people in our services right now, and that trend will only continue as we move into our new worship services. Take time to smile, greet and get to know the new people around you. Plan on changing your parking patterns. Our parking situation will be a challenge. If many of us dont intentionally park in some of our more distant parking lots, we wont have room to accommodate everyone who wants to worship with us. Let me point out one lot in particular that is under-used. Thats the top deck of the County office building across the street. I park there every Sunday and have found it to be comfortable and accessible to our church facilities. There are also plenty of spaces. Did I mention pray and be patient?

Making Disciples...
Our focus this spring is to help you connect to some practical ways you can fulfill our missin to make disciples of Jesus Christ in Lexington and around the World. This month, Id like to tell you about our ministry to nursing homes in the area, specifically Oak Leaf (on North Lake Drive) and Morningside (on Old Chapin Road). We have the privilege to provide a Bible study or devotional time one day each week at these two facilities. It can be as simple as leading in a hymn sing-along (using familiar hymns or praise songs that residents can easily follow) and reading a devotional or an informal short Bible lesson (maybe using Sunday School material or another Bible study). You might be gifted in just carrying on conversation with people, or you might know of some simple crafts that residents would find fun to make. The bottom line: there really are no rules! Find creative ways to engage these older adults, and you might find yourself having some spiritual conversations along the way. We mostly need help filling time slots at Morningside. Beginning on Sunday, March 2, we will be moving into a new, unified worship style and a new schedule. All worship services will now take place in the Worship Center. The new schedule will look like this: 8 am: 9 am: Sunday School (unchanged from current scheduled) First Worship Service Sunday School (unchanged from current scheduled)

10:30 am: Second Worship Service Sunday School (unchanged from current scheduled)

Sacrifices from the Heart

I started a sacrifice bucket just outside the side door of my heart. I believe that our Father in heaven still desires for us to make sacrifices unto Him. Certainly not for the purpose of making atonement for our sins - that was accomplished by the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus on the cross. But what kind of offering pleases God the most? We may tend to think that the only thing we can offer to God is something we have perfected or worked on for days or weeks. But the surprising thing is that while God can accept and bless a sacrificial offering of something we are pleased to offer Him such as a song, a good deed, a certain skill or even money, God is magnified when we give him things that dont have any place in our hearts and lives! He wants us to sacrifice to Him our pride and our selfish desires, and He will gladly receive all of our cares and worries. He really loves it when we give Him anything that stands in the way of allowing Him to dwell completely in our lives and be seen in us. I dont have to wait until this bucket gets full, I just continually find stuff that I can put in there and offer up to Him on a daily basis. Its a little odd because sometimes I find myself adding things that I know I already offered up to Him before, but somehow they showed up again in my life and need to offer them up again! Many of the items I have sacrificed can be assigned to different categories in my life such as personal preferences or things that offend me or things that are inconvenient or even very uncomfortable. The ones that are hardest to cram into that bucket are large and have like tentacles attached to me because they have been a part of me for so long, and I really love the comfort, stability and security that they give me. But see, thats why God wants me to sacrifice them because He alone wants to be my comfort, stability and security. It occurred to me the other day that there is something I think God would like for each of us to put in that sacrifice bucket: What if we all put our corporate worship of Him into the bucket of sacrifice? If we did that, when theres a song we dont like, or we are tired of standing too long, or we dont like the way the lights or stage look, we could just say, God, I am throwing my personal desires and preferences into the sacrifice bucket, and I am burning them up on the altar as an act of worship because I love You more than I love these things. You know, actually, I think God would really prefer it if I just climbed into that sacrifice bucket and added myself to the altar...and still lived...but its like it wouldnt be me living, it would be Christ living in me. SC Baptist Singing Churchmen

SING AND SERVE MISSION TO LONDON, ENGLAND March 4 12, 2014

Please pray for Dan and the whole group of Singing Churchmen as they travel March 4-12 to London, England, where they will be working with Evangelical churches around the city. Their ministry will include several flash mob impromptu concerts in public venues, plus concerts at Carey Baptist Church, Moulton, Brighton Road Baptist Church, Horsham, St. Albans Church, Spurgeons College, Homedale Residential Care Community, Red Hill Baptist Church and Holy Trinity School, Church of England (for 1,300 co-ed students aged 11-18 from different cultures and religions, including African, Asian, European, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim).

Student Ministry Families,

This month we have some exciting things happening here in the Student Ministry. Mark your calendars and dont forget to sign your student up for Ignite 2014. This years Ignite is a no-brainer for all students 6th-12th grade. Starting on Friday night, March 7th and concluding Sunday morning, March 9th, your students are invited to this life changing weekend. This years theme is Old School. We will be worshipping God all weekend in the Chapel. Nathan Smith, an evangelist who runs Journey Camp during the summer, will be our main stage speaker. We are excited that our very own Justin Putnum and his band will be leading the students in worship that weekend. The cost for this weekend is $30 and everyone needs to be registered by March 2nd to attend. If you are a parent with a graduating senior, listen up: on the weekend of March 14th-16th, we are taking our seniors to the beach for their senior trip. The cost for the trip is $50. We will be staying in condos on Myrtle Beach. If your senior would like to go on this trip please register them by Sunday, March 9th. Meet Jordan Herndon: Director of High School Ministries

Jordan Herndon started as LBCs Director of High School Ministries in February of 2014. He is finishing up a bachelors degree in Biblical Studies and Church Ministries at Columbia International University. Jordan was raised for the first part of his life in Fort Meyers, Florida, and the rest in York, Pennsylvania, where most of his family resides. He now lives in Columbia with his new wife, Camille, who also attends CIU and is a dance teacher at a Christian dance studio in Columbia. He enjoys playing all sports, loves the outdoors and has dreams of being Miss USA 2015 (we wish him the best of luck on that goal). Jordan is passionate about discipling youth, leading worship and ultimately seeing people encounter Jesus. He cannot describe what a blessing and honor it is to work with such a ministry team at this point in his life. If you see Jordan around church, make sure to say hello and introduce yourself- we are so happy to have him as a part of the Lexington Baptist family!

Many of our teams and families that have been blessed to travel overseas for international missions have been impacted in many ways. In some areas of the world you cant help but notice the need for shoes. Here in the states we even categorize shoes for different purposes and occasions; in Central America, shoes are simply for walking. Some of us cant imagine going to church without shoes, but this is common for children and students in some of the areas that our church is ministering to. Sunday March 30th is our Live the Light day, where we are celebrating and challenging our church to live out the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. On that day we will have bins set up around the sanctuary for you to donate the shoes right off of your feet! Shoeless Sunday is for everybody, but we are asking our students and families to lead in the charge! The shoes collected will be sent out with our teams to Central America and other parts of the world where theyre needed. The following Saturday, April 5th, we are partnering with TOMS shoes, and well host a TOMS shoes paint party. TOMS is an organization that makes very stylish shoes and also matches the shoes you purchase by shipping another pair to places in the world with a need for shoes. So you can come paint some rad shoes and help a person in need at the same time; its a win-win! The TOMS paint party will start after Loving Lexington in the FLC from 1-3pm.

John 13:35 says, All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other. This year we have shown people the love of Jesus by giving to prisoners, the homeless, an angel tree family and LICS. This month, though, we are challenging our families to try something a little different: we are going to love people through our actions and attitudes. If we consider the small interactions during our day . . . the crossing guard at the elementary school, parents at the ballfield, the clerk at the grocery store, the co-worker who is having a bad day... we have so many opportunities to model genuine kindness for our children. The small sacrifice of eye contact, a smile and a kind word can often make a lasting impact in the life of another person. This month, we would like to challenge you to smile. Thats right. Smile. Ask people How are you? and take the time to listen to them. Offer to pray for others (even your waitress before a meal) and really do it. As you move through your ordinary and busy life, notice people around you and encourage your children to do the same. Lets see how God works through heartfelt kindness and a great big smile. Live the Light {Coming March 30}

We are excited for your family to experience this day focused on living the light of Christ. For this special Sunday (and the weeks leading up to it), there are a few things that you should know: Wired Wednesdays in March- Come and experience an interactive tour of countries! Taste the food, skype with missionaries, experience the culture and pray for the people of the world. Sunday, March 30th- We will have no childrens Sunday School this day. Kids are invited to join their families in worship at 9:00 and 10:30. They will be given passport activity books to complete as they experience the kid-friendly service and visit the mission booths following the service. Wee Care is provided for children birth through age three. Shoeless Sunday- our 5th graders are invited to join our students for Shoeless Sunday during Live the Light on March 30th! On that day, we will have bins set up around the sanctuary for you to donate the shoes right off your feet! Shoeless Sunday is for everybody, but we are asking our students and families to lead in the charge! The shoes collected will be sent out with our teams to Central America and other parts of the world. Go barefoot and make a difference! April 5th- Children and students are invited to join their families for Loving Lexington and Beyond. Afterwards, join us in the FLC gym from 1-3 pm for a STYLE YOUR TOMS paint party. LBC is partnering with TOMS, a shoe company who sends a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes purchased. Registration and payment is required by March 19th. Come paint a great pair of shoes and give another pair to a child in need!

LBC Missions
March will soon be here and there is an excitement in the air! The Lord is definitely leading us into a new season- giving the opportunity for more of Him as we grow in being One. We also are moving into greater obedience in March through Live the Light. This will only happen as we each participate with our whole heart, and I want to share how excited I am to see the youth willing to lead out! The youth are going to Live the Light March 30th by doing Shoeless Sunday. You will see a lot of bare feet that daynot because they came barefooted, but because they gave their shoes at the door. Why? LBC Families will go to Nicaragua this summer to share The Light there by telling the story of Jesus, and they will share their shoes as a tangible expression of the free gift of grace. You can join them by coming ready to donate a pair of shoesany size in good condition. Look for the shoe bins at each entrance and follow the instructions there. Blessings, Cecie

LBC Missions Partner: Daybreak Crisis Pregnancy Center

As a missions ministry, one of the groups that we support is Daybreak. This organization supports women in crisis pregnancy situations and gives those women hope for themselves and their babies. The good Daybreak was able to accomplish in 2013 is amazing! Check out these numbers: Clients seen: 1,702 Abortion-vulnerable clients: 216 Babies saved: 133 - thats 62%! SUNDAY, MARCH 30
On Sunday, March 30, our church will celebrate Live the Light. This special day of worship focuses on how we can live the light of Jesus Christ and allows you to see how LBC is serving the Kingdom both here in Lexington and around the World. We take our mission statement seriously, and we do strive to make disciples of Jesus both in our community and all around the globe- this is one way we are doing that! We are excited to worship with you on the 30th and allow you to dig deeper into the Missions ministry of Lexington Baptist Church. That morning, we will stick to our regular worship and adult Sunday School schedule, but things will be a little bit different. Heres how: - Worship will be totally family-friendly, and because of that, there will be no childrens Sunday School. There will be Wee Care for children birth to age 3, but we invite children in the fours classes and older to come to worship with their parents. In keeping with our theme, children will each receive a Passport activity booklet to use during the service. It contains lots of fun activities for them and allows for active participation in the worship. - There will be food! Thats always good, right? Check with your Sunday School leader to find out what meal youll be attending, but the plan is for you (and your children) to eat a meal with your Sunday School class and listen to some amazing stories about what we are accomplishing here at LBC through Missions. Depending on your class time, youll either have breakfast, brunch or lunch (but it will all be equally delicious!). If youre not involved in a Sunday School class yet, thats okay- we have a place for you, too! Just ask at the information desks on any Sunday, and well give you the details. - After worship, youll have the chance to learn more about what Missions is all about here at LBC. Heres a hint: its not just about missionaries living abroad! Missions can happen right here in our town. In the Worship Center foyer, we will have over a dozen booths set up to represent each area of outreach- these vary from Streetside ministry to the homeless to prison ministry to long-term global mission work. Your children will be able to use their Passport booklets to collect stamps from each booth, as well. - This isnt just one Sunday. The following weekend, on Saturday, April 5, you will have the chance to take action and impact the Kingdom with the light of Christ with Loving Lexington & Beyond. This is a day dedicated to getting involved in mission work both locally and abroad. Snacks and water provided. Shopping At LICS: {LICS- 10 am to Noon} Did you know that your skill as a shopper can be missions? Join a group from LBC and head to Lexington Interfaith Community Services. See the ministry from behind the scenes. Work to sort and clean the storage area and the thrift shop. Join in a shopping spree and encourage other shoppers as you meet them in the shop. Bring in food and find out how its used to share Jesus. ARISE Ministry Home Repair: {Samaritans Well- 10 am to Noon} Join with ARISE ministrys home repair group in putting in new floor covering at Samaritans Well Womens Shelter. Lunch is provided and will be enjoyed with the residents of the shelter. Pelion Project Unveiling & Backyard Grilling: {Pelion Property- 10 am to 1 pm} Join Redirect Church in cutting the ribbon on our partnership there as they invite the community to experience the new property. We will help with set-up, childrens activities, music and relationship building as we partner with Redirect to reach Pelion. ARISE Oil Change Ministry: {FLC Parking Lot- 7:30 am to 1 pm} Join the ARISE ministrys oil change group to assist with setting up the welcome area, registration, car oil change points and check points needed to help widows and single moms of the community keep their cars on the road. Then, work one of these areas and enjoy the fellowship of working together and getting to know each other better, all while praying for those that are broken and share a need for Christ. Hit the Streets: {Downtown Columbia- 10:30 am to 1:30 pm} Join Streetside Ministry in downtown Columbia to set up food and serve to families and individuals who do not have a home. You will be able to help with food, music and activities as you get to know each other and offer a listening ear, a prayer and take any opportunities to share the light of Jesus.

LEXINGTON BAPTIST PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR

The Lexington Baptist Preschool Director serves as the primary liaison between the Weekday Ministry Staff, Church staff and Ministry Advisory Team. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: oversee all Lexington Baptist Preschool staff, assure adherence to established policies and procedures, develop and maintain an approved budget and be responsible for the educational and spiritual nurture of the children in the program. LBC Mens Ministry

We are now offering small accountability groups for men to allow you to make deeper connections and grow in your relationship with God. Accountability groups exist to help you stay pure and faithful in your Christian walk and serve as a venue for building strong friendships with your brothers in Christ. These groups will allow for regular meetings (meeting dates and times to be decided by each group) for encouragement, prayer and spiritual growth.
