Steven Cohen, Superintendent of Schools BOARD OF EDUCATION Regular Public Meeting Agenda - DRAFT March 4, 2014 The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education is the authorized agency responsible for setting educational policy in the District. It consists of seven members who each serve three-year terms and receive no salary or other financial compensation. The meetings, except for Executive Sessions, are held before the public. The Board of Education may convene to Executive Session immediately after opening the meeting. At the end of the Executive Session, the Board of Education will re-convene to the Regular Meeting. Arrival and departure times of the Board of Education members shall be noted in the minutes and within the order of events. A maximum of half hour will be allocated for agenda items Statements of Residents with a three minute limit per individual. Each speaker must be a resident of the District. Residents wishing to make comments or raise questions shall state their name and address. Public discussion is prohibited on matters relating to staff and students at which their reputation, privacy, or rights to due process or the rights of others to due process, could be in some way violated. Residents will be permitted to participate in Board of Education discussion and agenda item Discussion, however Board of Education members will speak first. Each resident will be limited to one input with a two minute maximum. A time limit for residents discussion will be no more than 10 minutes unless a majority of the Board wants to extend the time due to the nature of the topic. Residents will address the Board and not each other during this discussion. Each Board Member voting on a motion shall be permitted to state the reason for doing so and the statement shall be noted in the minutes. The public, in its comments, will refrain from making any direct references to student or staff members. Such references to individual students or staff members are inappropriate in a public forum and should instead be conducted in private conversation with an appropriate member of the staff. Authorization for Law Clerk Services: RESOLVED, the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves an hourly rate of $135.00 for litigation support services performed on behalf of the District by Law Clerks employed by Guercio and Guercio, LLP, as more fully set forth in correspondence from Guercio and Guercio, LLP dated July 18, 2013. Guercio and Guercio, LLP General Counsel Contract: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves an agreement between the District and Guercio and Guercio, LLP to serve as the Districts General Counsel for the 2014-2015 school year for a retainer fee of $49,000.00 (the same fee as the 2013-2014 school year). The President of the Board is authorized to sign this contract and thereby signify the Boards acceptance to the agreement. Guercio and Guercio, LLP Labor Counsel Contract: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a contract between the District and Guercio and Guercio, LLP as Labor Counsel for the District for the 2014-2015 school year at $42,000.00 for the year as a retainer fee. The President of the Board is authorized to sign this contract and thereby signify the Boards acceptance to the agreement. Boots and Saddles Production (at Miller Avenue) Contract: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a contract between the District and Boots and Saddles Productions for an on-site presentation and Civil War demonstration at Miller Avenue Elementary School for the 5th grade class on June 10, 2014 (rain date June 13, 2014) at a fee of $3,450.00. The Superintendent is authorized to sign this contract and thereby signify the Boards acceptance to the agreement. Donation(s) from Wildcat Athletic Club on Behalf of the Field Renovation Committee: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District accepts the following donation(s) and, if necessary, approves the appropriate budget line(s) to be increased by that amount: 1. To Shoreham-Wading River Central School District from Wildcat Athletic Club (WAC) on behalf of the Field Renovation Committee: One (1) portable 8 foot aluminum scoring platform valued at $3,637.96.

Donations: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District accepts the following donation(s) and, if necessary, approves the appropriate budget line(s) to be increased by that amount: 1. To Miller Avenue Elementary School from Miller Avenue PTO: Check # 1922 in the amount of $3,450.00 for a Civil War demonstration Boots and Saddles for the 5th grade students on June 10, 2014, and processed through Code A2850.4000.11.000.

2013-2014 Academic Calendar Revision: WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District ratifies the revision to the 2013-2014 Academic Calendar by adding an instructional day of February 21, 2014 and hereby adopts the revised 2013-2014 Academic Calendar. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a revision to the 2013-2014 Academic Calendar by adding the below instructional days in the event there will be additional school closings: 1.
