PERFORMANCE CRITERIA / QUALITY REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Reinforcement shall be free from all loose or flaky rust and mill scale, or coating, including ice, and any other substance that would reduce or destroy the bond. Reduced section steel reinforcement shall not be used. If in the opinion of the Engineer the steel has excessive surface rust, dust or other deleterious material then the steel shall be sand blasted. Sand for blasting shall not contain materials deleterious to the durability of the reinforcement or concrete. Dune sand shall not be used for the sand blasting of reinforcement. Deformation shall be spaced along the bar at substantially uniform distance. The average spacing or distance between deformations on each side of the bar shall not exceed seven tenths of the nominal diameter of the bar. The steel Reinforcement shall conform to the requirement for physical properties and tensile requirement as prescribed in table 1 and 2 below. SUBMITTAL
5.1 The Contractor shall submit to The Engineer for his review and approval, the manufacturer's records of chemical and physical properties of each batch of billet steel bars and a certificate that the respective material furnished meets the requirements for the steel reinforcement specified. The manufacturer's records shall include certificates of mill as well as analysis, tensile and bend tests result of the steel reinforcement. Three copies of the steel test report shall be furnished with each consignment of steel reinforcement. The steel shall be tagged and cross -referenced with mill certificates. The Contractor shall prepare bar bending schedules of all the reinforcing steel bars and these bar bending schedules shall be submitted to the Engineer for his approval. All detailing shall be done as per ACI standards AC1-315 & 318. The Contractor shall obtain approval of the bar bending schedules before starting actual bar bending works.

5.2 5.3

SAMPLING AND TESTING OF MATERIAL

6.1 Test result of Representative samples of all reinforcing steel that the Contractor proposes to use in the Works must be submitted, before work is commenced, to the Engineer for his written approval. Test results for each bar size shall be submitted to the Engineer two weeks before concrete work commences on Site. Samples shall be taken for acceptance test from each consignment as the Engineer may direct and shall be tested at the contractor's cost. The Engineer reserves the right to sample and inspect all reinforcement steel upon its arrival at the work site. Quality Control tests, their frequency and relevant standards shall be as per the following Table 4: TABLE 4 FREQUENCY OF TESTS FOR STEEL REINFORCEMENT Testing Frequency Test

DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

7.1 On delivery, bars in each lot shall be legibly tagged by the manufacturer. The tag shall show the manufacturer's test number and lot number and other applicable data that will identify the material with the certificate issued for that lot of steel. Storage of reinforcement shall be on suitable structures a minimum of 450 mm above the ground surface to prevent damage and accumulation of dirt, rust and other deleterious matter. Storage facilities shall be such as to permit easy access for inspection and identification. Reinforcement bundles shall be clearly tagged with bar schedule and bar mark reference. The reinforcement shall not be roughly handled, dropped from a height, or subjected to shock loading or mechanical damage. Steel reinforcing bars shall be kept clean and shall be free from pitting, loose rust, mill scale, oil, grease, earth, paint, or any other material which may impair the bond between the concrete and the reinforcement. The reinforcement shall be covered to ensure protection from windblown dust, condensation and other deleterious materials. Steel reinforcement bars shall be kept in bundles firmly secured and tagged. Each bar or bundle of bars shall be identified by marks stamped on hot or cold or painted on or by any other means. The identifying marks shall contain the following information: a. b. c. d. 7.5 Name of the producer or his trade. Standard to which the bars have been manufactured. Steel Grade The diameter.
