SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION 3.

1 LUBRICATING OIL SYSTEM The PGT 25 DLE Gas Turbine is equipped with two separated lubricating oil systems. The lubrication systems, complete with tanks, pumps, coolers, filters, valves and various control and protection devices furnish normal lubrication and absorption of heat rejection load of the gas turbine. The lubrication systems are designed to provide supply of filtered lubricants at the proper temperatures and pressures for operation of the turbine and its associated equipment. A synthetic oil console feeds the LM 2500 Gas Generator, the accessory gear box and the variable geometry actuators. A mineral oil console, feeds with ISO VG32, oil to the H.S.P.T. bearings, the load coupling, the gear box and the driven centrifugal compressor 2BCL505-6/N. 3.2 SYNTHETIC LUBE OIL SYSTEM 3.2.1 Functional description A synthetic lube oil system is provided to lubricate and cool the gas generator rotor bearings, sumps and the accessory gear box. A part of the oil is used for the variable geometry actuators. The main components of the console are the followings: a. Main Filters (FL1-1/2), on the lube supply to gas generator, which eliminate solid contaminants from the main pump (PL-1) delivery pipings. Only one filter is in service at a time; thus cleaning, inspection and maintenance of the second one can be performed without interrupting oil flow or shutting the gas turbine down. The transfer of operation from one filter to the other should be accomplished as follows: 1. Open the filter valve and fill the stand-by filter until a solid oil flow can

be seen in the flow sight in the filter vent pipe. This will indicate a "filled condition".2. Operate the transfer valve with a wrench to bring the stand-by filter into

service. 3. Close the filler valve. Filter elements should be changed when the differential pressure transmitter indicates a differential pressure of 1.0 Bar. An alarm switch PSCVF signals when the differential pressure exceeds 1.5 Bar. b. Scavenge Filters (FL2-1/2), on the line to the tank, which eliminate solid contaminants from the scavenge pumps (PS-15) delivery pipings. Filters elements should be changed when the alarm switch PLBUF signals a differential pressure bigger than 1,5 Bar. c. Temperature Control Valve (VR1-1) connect with the delivery piping of the synthetic oil coolers enclosure which keeps constant the fluid temperature bypressing the delivery of oil to the heater external to the console. d. Relief valve (VR-2-1) connected with the delivery piping of the scavenge pumps which maintains constant pressure to the air cooler preventing excess delivery of oil by the pumps. e. Indicating electrical chip detectors which are used to detect metal chips inside the synthetic lube oil system. f. A synthetic oil tank (TK-1) supplied with the following main instruments: - a temperature transmitter LT-QT-1 that supplies signal Ready to start to the control system, at a temperature of set. It also sends the signal for electrical heater 23QT-1 start up and stops at a temperature of set. - an oil tank level switch (96QL-1) that sends a HIGH alarm signal when the oil level reaches the minimum height inside the tank. The tank oil level and temperature transmitters are permissives for gas turbine to start. The oil is sucked from the tank by means of a volumetric pump PL-1 controlled by accessory gearbox. A safety valve, calibrated at 6.9 barg (VR3-1) controls the pump delivery pressure. The oil, after the main filters, is convoyed inside the gas generator and gearbox accessories. The oil is sucked in the gas generator by three scavenge pumps PS-35, and is sucked in gearbox accessories by PS-12 pumps. The oil, convoyed in a single manifold, flows to the synthetic oil cooler. The oil cooler is two plate heat exchanger type and it's furnished with gaskets having antimixing systems and leaks detector. The cooler is designed so as the oil pressure is always upper to the cooling medium one to avoid water infiltration in oil side. The cooling medium consists of 65% weight TEG and 35% weight water at a supply pressure of 4.5 Bar. The lube oil system requires a vapour separator composed by the following equipments: Air Cooler (HLX-3) It has the purpose to condensate the oil vapour in order to separate it. It is equipped with two A.C. electric motors (88QVE-1/2) driven fans and with stainless steel (AISI 304) wet parts.

Coalescer filter (PDS-2) It has the purpose to separate the oil mist, with stainless steel casing and a coalescer replaceable cartridge made in AISI 304 and fiberglass with a separation efficiency of 5 mg/Nm. The synthetic lube oil vapour separator fans motor are automatically started by the Mark VI LM when flame FLAMDTA/B is detected in the gas turbines combustion chamber and automatically stopped 30 minutes after the gas generator speed NGGA/B has reached o rpm. Oil vapour discharged by the separator is vented to the atmosphere in safe area and must not enter into turbine through intake filter or air inlet duct and not be delivered to hazardous areas where sparks can ignite it. Synthetic lube oil system supply lubrication to the starting clutch present in the hydraulic starting system.
