Bag Body
The body of the bag is approximately 15" x 11"
x 5".
note: the body of the bag is worked around the
base rectangle. Do not turn.

Row 11: Ch 2, hdc in BLO around the entire

edge of the rectangle. Try to put in at least 10
hdc into the short side. hdc in each st along the
long sides. Mark the first st of each row. Do not
join each row, work in a spiral to the top. (116 –
in theory, if you put 48 on ea long side and 10
on ea short side)
Rows 12-16: hdc around. (116)
Row 17: hdc around, hdc dec on the long side
at all 4 corners. (112)
7oz. worsted weight green wool Rows 18-22: Repeat row 12. (112)
.5 oz. worsted weight blue, cream and maize Row 23: Repeat row 17. (108)
wool Rows 24-28: Repeat row 12. (108)
K hook Rows 29 - 35: Repeat row 17 for all odd rows.
Yarn needle Repeat row 12 for all even rows. (104, 104, 100,
Sharp sewing needle and thread to match wool 100, 96, 96, 92)
and lining fabric.
1/2 yd fabric for lining Join with a sl st to the first st. Fasten off and
5 – 6 mm beads weave in ends.

Lacy-Flap Purse
Row 7: ch 1, sc in same st as joining, (sk 2 dc,
shell in next dc, sk 2 dc, sc in sp between 5 dc
group) 9 times, turn. (9 shells)
Row 8: (ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in 3rd dc, ch 5, sk 2 dc,
sc in sc) 9 times, turn. (18 ch-5 sp)
Row 9: sl st 3 times to center of ch-5 sp, ch 1, (sc
in ch-5 sp, ch 5) 17 times, sc in last ch-5 sp,
turn. (17 ch-5 sp)
Row 10: (sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc in ch-5 sp)
17 times, sl st into last ch-5 sp.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Strap
Row 1: ch 6, join with a sl st to the first ch.
Rows 2-100: sc in ea st around.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Flower
Row 1: Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring,
Row 2: (ch2, 2 dc, ch2, join with a sl st to the
ring) 5 times.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Felt all items in a zippered pillow case. (Really
important to use a zippered case to keep all of
the little bits together). Roll in a towel to
squeeze out the excess water. Leave to dry.
Stuff the bag with towels to maintain the
shape.
When dry use matching thread to sew the flap
to the center back of the bag. Place the straps
2” into the bag and sew the strap to each side
of the bag. Sew the flowers to the points 5, 7, 9,
11, and 13 of the flap. Sew the beads to the
center of the flowers on points 5, 7, 11 and 13.
Place flap over bag. Sew the bead for the
flower at point 9, leave enough length to allow
the bead to slip through the center of the
flower. Wrap thread around the thread holding
the bead in place to create a center post.

Lining
Lay fabric down on a flat surface. Fold fabric in
half so the fold is at the bottom of the purse
and there 1” of fabric above the opening of the
purse. Lay your purse flat on the fabric,
leaving 1” at top for the opening. Using a
marking pen trace along the sides of the purse
to from the top to the widest point of the purse.
Then continue the line straight down to the
fold. Cut out your lining 5/8” from the sewing
line you just drew. Leave 1” at both sides
opening of lining. Sew along line you marked.
Fold the side seam of the lining onto the center
of the bag. You will now see a point at the
bottom corner of the bag. Measure 3” from
point onto the lining. Draw a line
perpendicular to the side seam of the bag. Sew
along this line. This will make a little flap in
the lining that looks like a triangle. Repeat for
the other side.
Fold down the 1” excess at the lining opening
and press. Place the lining into the bag. Pin the
lining in place. Using a hemming stitch, sew
the lining into the bag.
If desired, add a patch pocket to the lining
before sewing the side seams.
