TECHNICAL MANUAL ALLIGATOR COUPLERS

INTRODUCTION
The ALLIGATOR couplers are used for splicing any grade or profile of reinforcing bar. These couplers are made for reinforcement steel with diameters in the range of 10 mm to 40 mm. Connection is made by inserting bars into both ends of the coupler. The breaking bolts are then screwed by hand and tightened by ratchet wrench until bolts shear off. These couplers can be used in particular cases to replace the damaged reinforcements with new ones and to connect to old structure. The advantages of ALLIGATOR COUPLERS: -------Ensure integral connection for steel reinforcement. No need for threading or any other bar preparation. These are fast, simple, easy to use. Recommended to apply a pneumatic wrench No special training needed. No welded components. Correct assembly easy to check visually.

THE MAIN APPLICATIONS OF ALLIGATOR COUPLERS

------column construction to extend or repair existing structures to connect pre-cast element to pre-cast element to close access openings for reinforcement bar cage pre-fabrication for fatigue applications

Repair of an existing structure.

To repair an existing structure by replacing a corroded or damaged bar, the replacement bar must be cut approximately 5mm shorter to ensure clearance for insertion between the ends of the original bars.

ALC couplers are pushed fully over both ends of the replacement bar and temporarily tight in position.

The replacement bar is then positioned and the ALC couplers moved on the existing bars, half the length of the coupler.

Then the breaking bolts are tightened to shear off.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALC COUPLER

Mount the ALLIGATOR COUPLING to the reinforcement steel from one side.

Mount the second reinforcement bar in the ALLIGATOR COUPLER [1] and tight the breaking bolts to shear off [2].

For the tightening of the breaking bolts a pneumatic wrench is necessary. Do not add grease to the bolt connection. Mount the bolts as straight as possible The ALLIGATOR COUPLER in mounted state.

ALLIGATOR COUPLING WITH END ANCHORING

The ALLIGATOR COUPLING WITH END ANCHORING is designed to ensure dead end embedment for reinforcement steel bars in concrete. This helps to reduce the congestion and simplify the placement of reinforcement bars by removing the need for hooked ends. The ALLIGATOR ANCHOR includes half of an Alligator Coupling with a plate welded to one end which will transfer the full tensile load of the bar when it is bearing against concrete. An advantage of this system is that there is no need for special preparation of the reinforcement bar.
