Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, I want to create an optimal learning environment that is welcoming and safe for each and every student. Collaboration and community are paramount. The classroom should be a place of inquiry and questioning with students taking an active role in their own learning (Levy, 1996). I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their opinions, thoughts, and ideas. I believe that instruction should be varied and multimodal so that the curriculum is engaging and accessible to all learners. Students need to see that the curriculum is relevant to their lives. As a teacher, I must create authentic and meaningful learning experiences for my students so that their learning becomes more tangible and concrete. In my classroom, I want to have routines and procedures clearly established so that students will know what to do and what I expect of them. As a teacher, I want to maintain high expectations for my students, challenging them and encouraging them to reach their full potential. Above all, I want to show students that we are all diverseeach of us can teach and learn from one another.

Educational Experience
Student Teaching:
This spring, I am currently completing my student teaching internship and conducting my action research project at Wilderness Elementary School in a fourth grade classroom of 26 students located in Spotsylvania, VA. During the previous fall semester, I was a part-time teaching intern at Wilderness Elementary School in a second grade classroom of 24 students in Spotsylvania, VA. As a part of my impact study, I designed and implemented a unit plan on plant life cycles that aligned with the WIDA standards.
