FROM EDITORS DESK

This quarter moved from the lives of professionals leaving the mix effects of grieves, hopes & rejoicement on them. With the blessings of Holy Month of Ramadhan and delights of Eid ul Fitar, we were destined to bear the departure of our loved ones like
Ch. Yaqub Ali, Ex-Chief Librarian, International Islamic University, Mr.Abdul Hafeez Akhtar, Ex. D G, Department Of Libraries, Mrs. Nusrat Nadeem , Assistant Librarian, Institute of Regional Studies, Islamabad and some other closed ones. All these departed souls were very dear to us. We can never forget their struggles for the profession. May Allah the Almighty shower His eternal blessings on these souls, forgive their sins, have mercy on them & rest in Jannatul Firdous. Most prominent activity of this quarter was, of course, PLA Elections 2012. The horizons of librarianship in Pakistan were covered with the clouds of hopelessness and desperations because of delay in these elections. Inactive state of PLA was forcing people to raise questions about the future of Pakistani librarianship. With the blessings of Allah the Almighty, we have gone through this uncertain phase, elected bodies of all provinces & head quarter of PLA are there now. They have taken oaths & are on the way towards their responsibilities & duties. We congratulate all the elected bodies & want to remind them as well that expectations of professionals are very high this time. There are diversified challenges & issues awaiting for them. These challenges & issues must be addressed and resolved on priority basis. Elected teams are the trusty of professionals hopes. In this way, they become responsible to fulfill their promises which they made during election campaign. Otherwise, they will surely be questioned about their responsibilities in both the worlds, i.e. here in this world by professionals & in the world hereafter by Allah the Almighty. In this issue, we are including an interview of a very adorable & ever-smiling personality. She is famous among her students because of her motherly nature. Surely, you have recognized her. Yes, we are talking about Madam Tanveer Jahan Khan. Our interviewer made an attempt to reveal her lifes such aspects you will really want to know about. We hope you will like this interview. Madam Khan is suffering of blood pressure and sugar these days. We pray Almighty to bestow her with sound health. We specially thank her for showing her willingness for this interview. In the end, we would like to say that pages of Info@PULISAA are about you. Dont hesitate if you want to contribute for these pages. We would like to adore these pages with your writings & contributions. Take

good care of yourself, your families & your loved ones. See you in next issue. Waiting for your feed back. Email your writings & contributions at: info.pulisaa@gmail.com

Aah Ch. Yaqoob Ali!

By Muhammad Naushad Ghazanfar Sabzwari
I met Ch. Yaqub Ali in 1987. He was just returned from KSA and joined Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan as Deputy Librarian. He applied for post of Chief Librarian and due to some technical reason he was appointed with promise of promotion in BS19 as Librarian. At that time, I was studying in University of Sindh. During my first meeting, I found him a friend rather a senior or boss. He always encouraged his subordinates and colleagues. His special ability was to stimulate and motivate all professionals. History of automation in B. Z.University was also originated by him.He first time introduced Apple Macintosh computer in 1993and developed a software with the help of vendor. He with his personal interest fed complete data of Central library, B. Z. University and laid down foundation of automation in this university. He had keen interest to develop Library according to modern trends and for this purpose, he, with the collaboration of American Council, started Information Resource Center under his own supervision and provided reading material through electronic mode to University teachers and researchers. At that time internet facilities were not available but he, in the city like Multan developed these facilities for every reader who was interested to get current material without hesitation. Ch. Yaqub had innovative mind and he tried his level best to implement his positive and innovative ideas. When he joined this university, Libraries system was neither centralized nor decentralized. Construction of building for central library was a dream. The library was working in only two small rooms. Just after his joining in university, his first target was the construction of Central Library Building. He struggled day and night and succeeded to convince administration for this project. We all professionals only used to discuss about central library structure but he was the person who realized the idea into reality. He was in favor of decentralized system due to financial constraintsand intended to develop an ideal Centralized system. But unfortunately university has neither centralized nor decentralized system uptill now.He was sincere with both friends and profession. He struggled here in Multan for Personal scale of library professionals working in BS16. His services for profession remained in our mind. He had religious mind but having tolerance with different sects and not a rigid person. He was not only literary but also fond of tourism having sense of sightseeing and we all professionals many times organized one day tours on the different places. He used to participate in activities like cooking and other witty and jokey discussions. Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen wrote about him that he was always praise for everyone doing some good work for the profession. He was religious in the true sense. Not only he would look like that, but also he would act like that----- honesty, humility, dedication, grace, social service, sincerity and much more. His character and dealings with people was exemplary. According to Dr. Muhammad Rafiq This is a great loss of Pakistani librarianship. He was such a dynamic person that inspired so many people with his enthusiastic leadership. I met Ch. Sahib in January 2007 when I joined IIUI as Manager Information Resource Center and my journey as a young colleague lasted till August 2008. I found him always open to new ideas especially he was much encouraging to young people. He supported us a lot during my stay at IIUI. It was his leadership and hard work that IIUI Central Library shaped such a wonderful icon of librarianship in Islamabad. He was always an inspiring personality of the profession and a great man of ethics. Mr. Midrar Ullah gave comments that a significant part of LIS history is gone with the passing of Ch. Yaqub Ali. He established the Central Library of IIU Islamabad and his services were exemplary. He also tried to establish LIS School in IIU but due to his retirement this mission could not be accomplished. I was in close contact with him from the last few years as a PLA member. He played a leading role in the revival of PLA and to keep it alive. He also played a very positive and effective role in current PLA elections. He was a great leader and organized national and international conferences, being President of PLA (FB). My last meeting with him was in a high tea, which was organized in the honor of Dr. Idris Haroon and Dr. Shafiqur-Rehman in Islamabd Hotel few days before the holy month of Ramazan. He was looking very active and fresh as usual and told me that he was striving to start LIS school in a campus of AlKhair University and will offer M.Phil and PhD in LIS along with MLIS. It was a proof of his commitment to the LIS profession. He is not dead; he is still alive in our hearts. His life is a role model for us. We pray for his maghfirat, May his soul rest in peace in heaven. Amin summa Amin.
