INSY 3305/5341 Information Systems Analysis & Design Spring 2014 Group Project and Presentation

Introduction Students are required to do a group project on system analysis and design for a realistic problem of their choice. The project should consist of three main components: the system proposal, analysis modeling, and design modeling.

Formation of Groups Ideally there should be 4-5 students in each group. More than 5 students would not be allowed in a group. The formation of groups will be finalized on 1/21. Students who have not formed a group would be grouped randomly.

Deliverables The following milestone reports will be due in hardcopy. All milestones and the final project report should be typed/printed and not handwritten.

Milestone 1: System Proposal Due 2/18 The System Proposal should contain the following components: a. Introduction about the problem domain b. System Request (see page 61, fig. 2-13) c. Feasibility Analysis (see page 63, fig. 2-14) d. Requirements Definition (see page 147, fig. 4-15) Milestone 2: Analysis Modeling Due 3/18 The Analysis Modeling part should contain the following components: a. Activity Diagram (see page 188, fig 5-14) b. Use Cases Diagram (see page 199, fig 5-19) c. Use Cases Descriptions (see page 169, fig 5-5) d. Class Diagram (see page 214, fig 6-2) e. Sequence Diagrams (see page 259, fig 7-16) Milestone 3: Design Modeling Due 4/1 The Design Modeling part should contain the following components:

a. b. c. d.

Final Class Diagram (see page 337, fig 9-14 & page 288, fig. 8-10) Package Diagram (see page 298, fig 8-17) Database Design (see page 381, fig 10-10) Data Access and Manipulation Design (see page 396-397, fig 10-22)

Group Presentations The group project presentations would be held on 4/1. 4/8, and 4/115. The main goal of having group presentations is to give you a chance of getting feedback about your design. Every member of a group has to take part in the presentation. The presentation should be about 15-20 min. long and should include an introduction about the problem domain, the system proposal, the analysis modeling, and the design modeling. You should turn in a hardcopy of your presentation slides before your presentation. Final Project Report The final project report will be due on 4/29 in class. The final report should consist of the above-mentioned four main parts: Introduction, System Proposal, Analysis Modeling, and Design Modeling. However, it should not just be a collection of these four disjointed sections. There should be a logical flow between the sections with a proper narrative explaining the different components.
