edu 229-224-1181 Online Hours: 8am- 4pm and 8pm- 9pm Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Course Title: Elements of a Story, 7th grade Language Arts Course Description: This course will provide students with an opportunity to analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact. Course Objectives: Students will be able to Identify and analyze elements of plot: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. Students will be able to examine plot structure understanding the way in which conflict drives the action in a story and how the chapters or sections of a text are organized and compiled. Students will be able to identify and analyze the elements of characterization (a characters thoughts, words, actions, appearance, experiences, etc.). Students will be able to understand the concept of narrative voice (first, second, or third person/omniscience, subjectivity, etc.). Students will be able to recognize the importance of setting, seeking to understand how the setting can dynamically affect the action in a story.

Standards: ELACC7RL3: Analyze how a particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how settings shape the characters or plot). Course Evaluation and Assignments: Grading Policy Discussion Boards: 30 points (6 @ 5 points each) Individual tasks: 20 points (4 @ 5 points each) Group Project: 20 points Individual Assessments: 30 points (3 @ 10 points each) 100- 90pts= A 89- 80pts= B 79- 70pts= C 69 or less= F

***Late work will not be accepted. All assignments must be turned in no later than 11:59pm on the day that assignment is due. Please be sure to turn in all assignments on time and in the correct place. Provide a variety of ways to communicate with my students (chat, conferencing, email, messaging, posting and telephone)

As the student you will: Login to the online learning environment at least 4 times per week. Complete tasks, discussion board posts, assessments, and activities by the assigned and posted due dates Respect their peers as individuals by not harassing, threatening or belittling their work Work with their peers to accomplish a predetermined assignment or task goal Notify the instructor of any personal emergencies either prior or immediately after they impact this course Do their own work for individual assignments and will participate equally in group assignments Schedule/ Calendar- The schedule will be provide students with a visual view of due dates and upcoming tests. Grades- All final grades will be posted with feedback from the teacher. If you have any questions or concerns contact the teacher immediately. Modules- Modules have been created to by a week to week basis to provide course work in a manageable fashion. Discussion board- Students will complete a discussion board post each week. Each post should be thoughtful and supported with research and examples from the text or from the course. Dropbox- This tool will be used to submit all individual assignments and graded projects. Pbworks- This site will be used to collaboratively complete your group project. Each group will be required to set up a Pbworks account and add each member and the instructor as writers.

Learner Guidance and Relevant Resources

Technology Participants must have access to reliable internet, an active email account, Requirements internet capable computers, and be able to open all Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents, as well as, PDFs. Academic Dishonesty Participants of this course are expected to submit their own, original work. Policy Students should not submit any work that is not theirs. Any work submitted that is not the participants own work will be turned into the department head and recommended for immediate withdrawal from the course.
