Didactic i Pedagogic, 2009 LENGHT: 50 min. FUNCTIONS (according to curriculum): - to describe according to the information in the text/picture - to initiate discussion - to make guesses - to talk about likes or dislikes COMMUNICATION ELEMENTS: - making predictions - expressing personal opinion SKILLS: writing, reading, listening, speaking

AIMS: To use English in various contexts; To predict the content using words, pictures, phrases; To revise the use of Present Simple and Present Continuous; develop and practice the productive skills (writing, speaking) and the receptive skills (listening, reading); reinforce vocabulary.

SUB-AIM OF THE LESSON:

- to improve group cohesion through pair or group work.


OBJECTIVES: A. Cognitive objectives: a) to check and improve vocabulary, b) to encourage students to talk freely, c) to help students talk about recent events, d) to give students more practice on pronunciation, vocabulary and the structures taught. B. Affective objectives: a) to create a warm atmosphere, b) to help students enjoy speaking in English. By the end of the session the students will have: a) improved their listening skills b) received more practice in speaking c) been exposed to more pair-work activities to enhance communicative language practice TEACHING AIDS: textbooks , worksheets, handouts, pictures, flashcards. TEACHING TECHNIQUES: conversation, dialogue, exercise, games, explanation brainstorming, observation, miming. METHODS: Communicative approach AIDS: students book; pictures; worksheets; notebook.

THE EVENTS OF THE LESSON 1.WARMING-UP (7-9) Aims: - to draw pupils attention and to introduce the new lesson; - to review some verbs. Interaction: T-S, S-Ss. Skills: Speaking, reading, miming. Activities: greetings, homework checking, introduction of the next lesson. 1st Activity: Greetings (<1) Procedure- informal conversation. 2nd Activity: Homework checking (<2-3) Interaction: T-S. Skills: reading. Procedure: T asks Ss what their homework was and a S gives the answer. Ss read the homework. T corrects the possible errors helped by the Ss and elicits them on the board.

3rd Activity: Brainstorming (< 4-5) Interaction: lock step Skills: speaking, miming Procedure: The T asks the Ss to play a mime game and guess/predict what activity is written on the flashcard. A S comes and mimes an activity while the others try and make guesses about the activity: Eg.: I think she/he is sleeping/ running/ calling.

!!! Important: whenever Ss dont understand T questions or vocabulary, these will be translated into Romanian.

2. THE CORE OF THE LESSON (approx. 38) Aims: -to make lesson seem fun and exciting; to involve Ss in individual, pair and group activities;

-to revise and reinforce grammar regarding Present Tenses. Interaction: lock step Skills- speaking, listening, reading, writing, comprehension, communication, matching. Activities: 1st Activity: Present Simple and Present Continuous (<10) Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T Skills: speakins, writing. Procedure: T tells Ss the topic for the day and writes on the blackboard some sentences using Present Simple and Present Continuous Tense. The T writes the title on the blackboard after the Ss guessed the two types of present tense used. Ss tell what it is particular at each present tense. The Ss say in what contexts the Present Tenses are used and how they are formed.

2nd Activity: Run for your text (<10) Interaction: T-S, S-Ss Skills: reading, speaking, writing Procedure: The T places in every corner of the class 4 sheets of paper with a written text. Ss split into 4 teams, every team having a different colour. Every member of the team reads and memorizes one sentence of the text. The leader of every team will note down what the others reproduce. They will correct themselves: Eg. The Red Team will correct the Blue Team.

3rd Activity: Rearrange to make sentences (<8) Interaction: T-S, S-Ss Skills: searching, matching, speaking. Procedure: Ss are divided into groups and are asked to form sentences with some tickets handed by the T. T asks Ss to underline the verbs and to identify their tenses.

4th Activity: What do they do? (<10) Interaction: T-S, S-T. Skills: speaking, writing.

Procedure: T gives every S a cartoon animal and asks them: What do cats eat? What does the elephant drink? What do cats do when they are scarred? The Ss answer T`s questions and write their answers into a table.

3.THE EVALUATION AND THE TRANSFER (<3) T congratulates the teams. T gives a ticket to every S to write his/ her opinion about the lesson (Ticket out the door). T assigns homework to the children (Textbook: ex. 2, page 81).
