I still love the way this song res off as the opening to Three Cheers To me, Helena has all of the components that made for a great MCR song - honesty, vulnerability, and kinetic force. A direct result of the passing of Mikeys and my grandmother, Elena Lee Rush, the song would go on to be one of our signatures and always the show closer. Very fast, very angry. From the moment we rst demoed this song until the last time we ever played it live, Not OK has always felt like home... as if those 3 minutes and 9 seconds were where we belonged. There was a feeling of excitement and fun somehow embedded in those 4 chords. W e must have played it thousands of times in total, and every time I heard that D octave come blaring from stage left the hair on my neck would stand up. It always felt fresh and new yet somehow beautifully familiar and I never got sick of it thats a rarity. Frank Iero (Iero/Pelissier/Toro/Way/Way) 2004 Blow The Doors Off The Jersey Shore Music, Inc. Ill never live down the fact that I couldnt save Mikey! Ray Toro (Iero/Pelissier/Toro/Way/Way) 2004 Blow The Doors Off The Jersey Shore Music, Inc. To me, the very rst note, the singular piano key, captured all of the sadness, solitude, and desperation of The Black Parade as an album. It seems to ring out for an eternity, especially when played live. It is that single note that puts into motion the decaying fantasy world I had in my head, complete with marching bands, multiple scene changes, a choir of orphans and desperate men. Its hard for me to listen to this song without picturing the video, which is sometimes as it should be, and both the audio and visual components worked seamlessly to deliver what I felt to be a message to the world at the time. And then it became such a personal moment between Gerard and the fans; we never went back to the full band version. Its delicateness came across EVERY TIME we performed it. The feeling you get when you create something beautiful is like no other on earth.I am lucky to have lived and shared those moments so many nights on stage together. Finally acquiring the funds from Eyeball Records to produce our full-length album, Honey was the rst song tracked for Bullets, once back at Nada Studios. Possibly the angriest tune I remember recording, it also held with it a sense of selfactualization, and a strong desire to be a live fast, die young burning spark that I felt captured the sentiments of ve desperate individuals. Desperate to be heard of course, which is why it is so loud in execution. Our rst vinyl, and technically our rst single, which was distributed in the UK. A collective band favorite to perform live, we often ended up in a pile of bloodied bodies by the time we nished playing. We wrote this in our practice space in NJ before heading out to Cali to track, and it really captured a lot of what the band was trying to say about itself. We will always mess with your perception of who we are and what we can do. Always expect the unexpected. And stay the fuck out of our way.The tracked version exudes the growing condence of a young band honing its identity, and its ultimate desire to make its mark on the world. This will always be my favorite recording of the band, because it was the rst. Having little money, or for that matter the songs, to complete a full-length album, we hopped in a van and headed to Nada Studios. John did an amazing job spinning plates as he scrambled to record all of the elements in one day, with my vocals coming last, and I remember a strange feeling and a coming storm outside. I had never heard my voice recorded, and hearing the band recorded for the rst time was all I needed to invigorate me to do the job. Most everything is done in one take. The tempo of the song is 187 bpms. Gerard Way (Iero/Pelissier/Toro/Way/Way) 2002 Blow The Doors Off The Jersey Shore Music, Inc. Mama is one of my favorite things I have ever had a hand in creating. Its risky and powerful, and at times downright insane. There are some songs that you enjoy hearing but dont enjoy playing live very much or vice versa but Mama was a beast with two heads (especially when pyro was involved). She was fun to play and fun to experience, plus I think all of our moms appear as guest vocalists on the end of this track and thats pretty damn cool. Gerard arrived at the studio with a big smile on his face and said, W ow, I nally feel like Im getting old! He recounted the experience he just had. Remember when you were a teenager and grown ups would just kind of be scared or apprehensive of you for no reason? W ell that just happened to me. I dont know what it is, but teenagers kinda scare the shit out of me now. Its really weird. W e all laughed, but it was one of those moments where you realize just how fast time ies. What started simply as a funny anecdote about a commute to the studio became a song about growing up before our eyes. The troubles that I had during The Black Parade writing sessions arent a mystery to many of the fans of our band. A mixture of pressure, self doubt and severe depression had left me a shell of a person, which in turn led me to remove myself from the situation. During one of our phone conversations, my brother (Gerard) said to me, Hey, I wrote a song for you. I think youre going to love it. When I nally made my return to recording, I remember the guys were in the live room playing a song I hadnt yet heard. Even in the distance and through the walls I was so completely blown away that the song stopped me in my tracks. Hearing that song in the live room for the rst time - the mix of emotion, lyrical sentiment and triumph brought me to tears. It illustrates that regardless of the obstacles standing in your way, not only can you overcome them but rise from the situation stronger than youve been in your entire life. W e were lucky to have John Miceli, who I can best describe as a compact mountain of a man with a thick New York accent and forearms made of stone. As the tape rolled, the opening riff started and John struck the kick drum with an explosive thunder, we knew we had our guy for this record. - Ray Toro (Bryar/Iero/Toro/Way/Way) 2010 Better Living Industries (BMI) and Blow The Doors Off Chicago Music (ASCAP) Produced by Rob Cavallo & My Chemical Romance / Engineered by Doug McKean / Recorded at Lightning Sound Studio / Additional Engineering: Dan Chase / Assistant Engineers: Steve Rea, Russ Waugh / Additional Pro Tools Engineering: Lars Fox, Dan Chase / Mixed by Chris Lord-Alge at Mix LA / Assistant Mix Engineers: Keith Armstrong, Nik Karpen / Additional Mix Engineering: Brad Townsend, Andrew Schubert Drum Tech: Joe Libretti / Guitar Techs: Todd Youth, RJ Ronquillo, Ace Bergman / Production Manager: Cheryl Jenets / Production Assistant: Jaime Neely John Miceli Drums, Percussion / Jamie Muhoberac Keyboards and Sound Design (From the album Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys)

I love that its thematically anthemic, but more that it is a purposeful passing of the torch, a nod to the new voices of a new generation. It was a call, a last call, to the kids of today... time to kill the fear, stop the voiceless state, take the baton and run with it. Kids From Yesterday allows me to reect on my entire life being a kid, growing up, learning about the universe, entering adulthood, and pondering the future. In that respect, it acts like a time capsule/time machine in my mind. Countless memories pour out of me that I hadnt thought about in decades or had seemingly almost forgotten. This song came together in the early a.m. during one of the all nighters of the Danger Days sessions. Theres really something other worldly about that time of day, because it puts you in a completely different frame of mind, and out of this other place came Kids. I never get tired of listening to this song, and it also stands as one that Im the most proud of. We had been trying to write a song that felt like this for so long that when Planetary was nally born it really felt like a win for us.
