Montage Logos Letterhead Business Card Brochu

Montage
Description:
Create a fresh, inspirational poster montage by blending together two or more photos, and the use of typography.

Date:

4/15/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr Adobe Photoshop

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Learn to managePhotoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smothly, using masks. Use Filters. Apply appropriate typography

Process:

I created a blank document that measured 8.511 inches. I dragged the wood texture/photo onto the canvas and stretched it until it covered all of the white in a way that I liked, then added a black and white Gradient Map to the image. I placed the picture of the homeless man onto my canvas, then created a layer mask, gradually softening the edges of the image until it blended well with the wood. I used the rectangle tool to create a dark square in which I could place my text, lowered the opacity so that the wood texture could show through, then added a mild drop shadow. Using the type tool, I created each line of text, varied the fonts and sizes, and then placed them within the dark rectangle in a way that I thought was well-spaced and looked nice. Hitting Ctrl + J, I copied the layer with the wood image, then used the Burn Tool to darken the edges. I added an adjustment layer and chose Selective Color, where I added a dark blue cast.

Logos
Description: Date:
Three logo variations for the same company. 2/22/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe Illustrator: Shape Tool - Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. - Use only the tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fab flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or auto live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.) - Gather opinions from at least ten outside sources about which logo appeals most to them.

Process:

I began by sketching out about twenty different logo designs for the company I chose. After this, I chose three of my favorites and began to work them in Adobe Illustrator. For the first one, I created a rectangle using the shape tool, filled it with color, then placed a P inside of it with an interesting Font. After that I created squares with the shape tool again and placed them all along the edges so that the Paid Postage logo looked like a postage stamp. For the second one, I used the Shape Tool and the Pen Tool to create the circle with arrows and placed it on top of a rectangle. Next, I placed the text onto the rectangle and changed the colors so that they would look well together. For the third one, I chose two fonts that I thought would look interesting together and placed them. Thinking it looked boring, I added a dark like with the Shape Tool and changed the different fonts to different tones of grey.

Letterhead
Description:
Create a matching letterhead and business card for a company using a personally created logo.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator - Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. - Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. (Dont use photos or live trace in your new logo) - Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design. (Photos are okay on stationery.) - Letterhead: 8.5 x 11 (full-bleed optional, but trim only .125) - Apply typography rules keeping small copy. - Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and - white space. Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

To come up with the logo, I first had to brainstorm what an interesting company would be and how I could best represent it within a design. I wasnt sure exactly what company I wanted to create, but I thought it would be interesting to redesign a letter from the alphabet and go from there. Using the Shape Tool, I created a letter H with many different blocks and added complementary colors to make it appear complete. For the letterhead, I began by placing the logo at the top-left corner of the page. I added a blue line with the Line Tool and then created an orange triangle with the Shape Tool to add a repeating element into the design. Next, I added the blue line at the bottom of the page, then used the Type Tool to add the contact information toward the bottom-right corner. Last of all, I imported the original logo and put it at an opacity of 6% to create a water mark.

Business Card
Description: Date:
Create a matching letterhead and business card for a company using a personally created logo. 3/1/14

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

- Business card: 3.5 x 2 (print above center on a vertical page) - Apply typography rules keeping small copy. - Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space. - Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

For the business card itself, I began by making the design side by dragging an over-sized copy of the H logo over the 3.52 format. I thought it looked interesting as more of an abstract design rather than blatantly displaying just the logo, so I cropped the edges of the shapes and left it as it was. For the business side of the business card, I placed the logo in the top-right, then added a blue line and an orange triangle to repeat the pattern that was at the top of the letter head. Next, I individually placed each of the lines of text to align along the edge of the triangle, then added another blue line to bring the flow back around. Lastly, I added my name, then fixed the font sizes.

Brochure
Description: Date:
A two sided (duplex) folding brochure. 3/29/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word - Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. - Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. - Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). - One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.) - Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. - Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:

I began by creating the Voltaire logo in Adobe Illustrator using the pen tool and Shape Tool, then filling in each shape with complimentary colors. After this, I opened two pages within Adobe InDesign. I began by laying down a grey texture that I found on the internet on both documents. Next, I placed two copies of the logo I created on each side of the page so that it appeared split in half and did the same with the word Voltaire at the bottom. This way, when I folded the brochure, the shapes would meet in the middle and appear complete. In Adobe Photoshop, I used masks to separate the images that I used from the internet from their backgrounds. After this I placed the images and the text that I wrote for the brochure within Microsoft word and placed them in the document, hoping to create nice flow. I used text wrap on the two images that were removed from their backgrounds and finished by placing a final copy of the logo in the center of the brochure.

Event Ad

Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr Microsoft Word

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

-Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together) - Find, scan and import a high-quality image. - Create a full-bleed design. - Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience. - Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:

First I began by scanning the photo from a print that I made in high school. After touching up and trimming it in photoshop, I began to sketch out my design. After scrapping several of the designs, I placed the photo in the document. Next I placed a black rectangle and white rectangle, then placed several text boxes onto the white rectangle, using it as a simple background. After this I placed the information in the document and chose appropriate fonts.

Flier

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr Adobe InDesign

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

- Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. - Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. - Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. - Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

The first thing I did was sketch several different layouts that I thought would be interesting. Next, I picked the one that I found to be the most appealing and used it as the base for what I would do in Adobe InDesign. I put the first word of the title in a dark box to catch the viewers eye and did the same with other key points in grey, to show the viewer where to look next for other key points of information. I kept most things left-aligned and toward the top to leave plenty of white space and used small font. The photo, logo, and content were provided for me to use in this project.

Imaging
Description:
Demonstrate good skills in photography and image editing. Incorporate color scheme into a poster design with a good design and an original photo.

Date:

2/8/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05 Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe Photoshop: Levels, Selective Color, Type Tool - Learn basic photography skills. - Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. - Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. - Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.) - Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout. - Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop - Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

Process:

I first decided to take a trip with my model and Canon Rebel XS camera outside, looking for elements of my color scheme. I knew that I wanted to use gold since it was in her blonde hair, as well as indigo since it would reflect in the shadows. I found them and brought the image into Photoshop, where I also used levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance to enhance my photograph. Next, I found a quote that I found interesting and tried to apply it, in a way, to my design. I chose fonts that I thought looked well together, and added text for both the quote and the color scheme and names, then placed them on the image.
