web page
Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo. Date: 3/13/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: TextWrangler Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Design a webpage using HTML & CSS Process: I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I have had some experience with HTML & CSS from back in the Myspace days. I loved changing the CSS coding to make my webpage my own. I learned how CSS intertwines within the HTML. I also used a validator online. It was useful to have something check to see if I had any problems with my code. After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a prmade CSS document to my HTML that I got from I-learn. I used the same color scheme that is in my logo for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to Calibri and Lucida Handwriting. I declared some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. I changed the margins and the padding for the image, texts, and headings. I made my background a png image in which I pulled off of the watermark of my stationary project. Figuring out where the coding was that I wanted to change to a personal settingwas one of the most challenging parts of working with CSS.

event ad
Description: My ad is a color promotional flier to attract an audience of college students and Rexburg locals, one who have gently used books that they would like to donate for the book sale. Date: 1/31/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Microsoft Word Epson Scanner PDF2JPG.net (PDF Convertor) Objectives: Scanning Images Create a layout in Word Insert and Editing Pictures in Word Process: My draft looked completely different than my final project. The picture kept throwing me off and I did not know what to do to align anything with it. I sat in the library for hours just doing the squinty eye method to see if things looked correct. This project was a completely different process, especially using word, discovering tools and using tools I did not know were even available on word. I used to think doing ads on word were old school because they do not have super up to date graphics, but I made mine look very 2014. I chose a simple flow and a simple text for both my title and my body copy. I scanned the image from the January 2014 Ensign.

brochure
Date: 3/26/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe InDesign Adobe Illustrator Adobe Photoshop

Description: A pocket brochure that first folds out like a book and then has one flap that folds up and one flap that folds down.

Objectives: Align a two-sided document Learn how to wrap text around an image How to intertwine Adobe programs Process: I drew and outlined what I wanted my finished product to look like. I made a new folder for all objects and documents I would create and use for this project. I started in Illustrator. Using the pen tool, I created a girl doing a bow and arrow. I also created a crown for part of the logo to symbolize royalty. I moved to InDesign where I created an 11X 17 in. document. I set my rulers (the light blue lines) to particular dimensions so that my brochure would print correctly. I placed my background images into my InDesign document, following the blue ruler marks. I then placed my body copy and images into the document where I had sketched them to go. I chose a typography that would go with my cheerleading theme. I repeated elements such as the royal crown and the white bars underneath all of the headings. For 4 of my images I used the quick selection tool in Adobe Photoshop to remove the background of the images to help add contrast to them within my brochure. I text wrapped 2 images on the inside of my brochure. I added effects on my images to make the pop more. I added a drop shadow and bevel and emboss.

montage
Description: This is a montage, 3 images blended together. I chose to do a Norway theme, it being my favorite country I have ever traveled to. Date: 2/15/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Learn to manage layers Using masks and filters Process: 1. I cropped the background image (the flag) to 8.511 and fixed the resolution. 2. I selected the grass, trees, moose, and moon and moved them to my background. 3. I pulled an entire image of mountains with a city and lights beaming against the mountains in. 4. Starting with my first layer, I created a mask, pushing the tool button on the bottom right, which somewhat looks like a miniature camera. With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard image edges. 5. With a larger black brush at 30% opacity and 30% flow, I blended the image into the background, so it it looks like all one picture, almost. 6. I repeated the process with each layer or image. 7. I added some type with one font and two different font sizes. I added inner glow, color overlay, and drop shadow. I transformed my text using the arc shape with a horizontal curve. Colorized/Filter applied and where: I selected the moon, grass, two trees, and moose and made them black and white.

logos
Description: Three logo variations for the same company. Date: 2/22/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Program(s)/ Tools: Illustrator Objectives: Use the basic tools of Illustrator Create themed logos for a company Process: I looked on Pinterest for ideas. I chose a cosmetology theme. I recreated each shape, using the pen tool, edited the colors to adjust to a scheme, I adjusted the anchors, and made sure I used the correct visuals and fonts to go along with my theme.

letterhead
Description: Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo Date: 3/01/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Objectives: Design layouts with flow and organization Use the basic tools of InDesign and Illustrator Process: I created the logo using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. I used the smooth tool under the pencil tool to smooth out my lines and anchor points. Once the logo was created, I opened a new two page InDesign document and placed my logo .AI file into this document. I decided to make my first page a letterhead. I positioned my logo in the top left corner of my letterhead. I created a line across the top of my letterhead to transition to my contact information. I then typed my contact information into a text box and positioned it on the right hand side of the letterhead. I made my name 12pt font to contrast with the 11pt contact information. For my watermark for repeating elements, I used the chevron print from my logo. I kept the opacity to about 5%.

I used the smooth tool under the pencil tool to smooth out my lines and anchor points. Once the logo was created, I opened a new two page InDesign document and placed my logo .AI file into this document. On my second page I imported my ai. layers from my logo. I made my entire logo the front of my business card. For the back, I managed my layers and used the chevron print to unify my stationary pieces. I put opacity of 35% on it to make it a great background. I then copied/pasted my contact information onto this page. I put a black box around each of the cards to indicate the edges.

flier
Description: My flier is a Black & White promotional flier to attract recent graduates for a graduate leadership conference. Date: 1/24/2014 Course/ Instructor: COMM 130, Section 08 Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe InDesign Objectives: Use appropriate typography Create a basic flier layout Keeping links in tact by storing a project in only one folder Process: I drew my sketches. At first, my sketches were just plain and boring. Then, I added some detail into them. I asked my roommates which one was their favorite or the most appealing. They all chose one. I used that sketch as my outline to guide me to a more sleek layout in Adobe InDesign. I learned the basics of InDesign, while learning how to create contrast and flow and make it come to life from my chicken scratch sketch. I chose a simple flow and a simple text for both my title and my body copy. I was given the image, logo, and content for this flier.
