Character Analysis Thesis:
In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the character Roger shows that when away from a civilized society, mans corrupt nature will eventually consume ones self.
Claim 1: Without rules of guidelines there are not any consequences, so Roger is allowed to act however he desires. Claim 2: As the novel progresses, the boys, including Roger, seeing the environment that they are in, feel the need to obtain savage-like characteristics in order to stay alive. Claim 3: When all hope is lost of rescue, these at first survival savage-like characteristics seduce Roger into exposing and acting on his corrupt nature.
In Mockingjay, Suzanne Collins implies that in order to fully accomplish justice for oneself or society, sacrifices must be made no matter what the cost.
Claim 1: Corrupt government may bring the need for justice; therefore to bring forth justice, sacrifice is needed. Claim 2: One may choose to sacrifice much or to sacrifice little, though to sacrifice none will not bring justice for oneself. Claim 3: Many consequences come from ones sacrifices, though to fully accomplish justice one must be willing to pay the cost.
