1. Introdu tion
The read-write programmer is specifically designed for the development and batch release of ATMELs AT88SC !AT88SC"#"$C%CA&'()#)C%CA* series cryptomemories devices !S+-8 pac,ed- ./0-8 pac,ed and card type*1 2ith the reading-writing config3ration 4one and 3ser 4onethe set has a range of f3nctions s3ch as sim3lated a3thentification !to 3sers who signed the 5.A agreement with ATMEL only*- config3ration file management and off-line programming !to program the device independently witho3t a personal comp3ter*1 +ff-line programming-can reali4e the 6/dentification 53mber 5c7 and!or* the 6/ss3er Code7 a3tomatic increase !ma,e every device config3ration each are not identical*1 Even if the f3se is blown ! The device hardware is shown by the following ill3stration1 :S; Interfa e$ Connect the 0C Comm3nication port with :S; cable to install1 RST$ ;3tton- to reset the set1 M%&'(RST1)$ to select operation mode1 Multi o*erators mode$ The set will be m3lti operators mode if yo3 power on directly1 /n this mode- yo3 have to press the relative b3tton to start programming the device after yo3 place a device in the soc,et1 Single o*erator mode$ The set will be single operator mode if yo3 press the M+.E press when power on1 /n this mode- all of the eight devices in each soc,et will be programmed if yo3 press any b3tton !S# to S8*1 T'ST$ ;3tton- to test the device connection in main soc,et1 8reen light means +<= if it does not light 3p- please chec, the cond3ction and direction of the device!S+-8 or ./0-8*- the insertion direction !contact side face 3p* and the contact!card type*1 C+R$ ;3tton- to clear the program co3nter of the set1 0ress the CL> and >ST b3ttons sim3ltaneo3sly- then release the >ST b3tton to clear the program co3nter1 0ower Switch9 Switch to the +5 side to connect power1 P%W'R S%C,'T$ .C inp3t- voltage9 8?-#(?1 PWR$ Light 3p to indicate power on1 %,$ Light 3p to indicate programming operation is all right1 C-CC$ Light 3p to indicate the device in main soc,et is powered on1 &igital &is*la.$ /ndicate the n3mber of already-programed devices1 Card So /et$ @or card type device1 Special attention sho3ld be paid to the position of pin# foot !indicated by the point in the above hardware ill3stration*1 03sh TEST b3tton to test the connection1

/ntall the device as follows9 #* Connect the .C inp3t power1 '* Switch 02> to the +5 side1 A* Connect the :S; cable to a personal comp3ter1 /f direct 3se :S; power s3pply- ellipsis #*- '* two steps1

4.1

Create t1e Configuration 5ile( to reate t1e onfiguration file from an old onfiguration file )

#1 Select Install Configuration File in the File men31 To reinstall- eGit the the config3ration 4one%3ser 4one interface1 '1 Select Read-Write Configuration Zone in the Device Operation men3 to config3re the areapress Esc to eGit1 A1 Select Read-Write User Zone in the Device Operation men3 to config3re the area- press Esc to eGit1 $1 Select Save Configuration File in the File men3- enter a file name and select Save1 A config3ration file !demo#1dem in the Design Sample directory* has been provided in the disc1

#1 Select the corresponding device model in the Device Selection men3- press Enter1 '1 /nstall the device and select Power on in the Device Operation men3 to ma,e the device power on1 A1 Select Read-Write Configuration Zone in the Device Operation men3 to opeate1 $1 @or 3nf3sed devices- enter the password and press Test Sec3re Code !SC*1 @or the f3sed devices- press ead-In !"P File to lead in all the 8c and password with #$gp file1 >efer to @ig3re (1# for creating s3ch a file1 (1 0ress Read Configuration Zone to read the corresponding data- press Esc to eGit1 )1 Select Read-Write User Zone in the Device Operation men3- press >ead :ser 0artition b3tton to read data in the present 3ser 4one1 To read%modify other 3ser 4one- select the 3ser 4one first and press %sc to eGit after completion1 D1 Select Save Configuration File in the File men3- enter the file name and select Save1 >eading config3ration 4one and 3ser 4one will delete all the previo3sly installed config3ration files1

4.4.1 Single de3i e *rogramming off-line(in main so /et)


#1 Select Install Configuration File in the File men31 The installed 3ser config3ration file will remain even in case of a power off1 @or already installed config3ration file- the first two steps can be s,ipped1 0lace a device to the main soc,et of the set1 0ress TEST to test the device1 /f it is correctly installed- the +< light will light 3potherwise- rechec, the placement1 0ress the 0>+M b3tton1 2hen the programming operation is done- the b344er will so3nd one time and the +< light will flic,er once sim3ltaneo3sly and the co3nter is added #= if the operation fails- the b3ffer will so3nd three times shortly and the +< light will not light 3p1

8 Soft#are Use 8.1 Po#er off and on

0ress Power Connection to connect power and the 6C?CC7 indicator light will light 3p- which will go o3t when power brea,s off1

Read-Write Configuration 9one

1. %*eration 6efore fuse is 6lo#n After selecting >ead-2rite Config3ration Ione in the Device Operation men3- the following window will pop 3p1 Enter sec3re code to test the device before operation1 After installing the config3ration file- any reading operation will delete the inp3t data !witho3t changing the config3ration file*1

7oti e$ @or f3sed device- sec3re code can no longer be verified1 The correct 8c%0assword m3st be

lead-in before operation to ens3re the device to be able read the real data inside- otherwisesome AAC or 0AC may not be t3rned into @@B or the device may be loc,ed 3p !cannot be 3sed again*1 To avoid this- save the 8c%0assword before the f3se is blown- and be caref3l when leading-in the 8c%0assword1 !. %*eration after t1e fuse is 6lo#n. The config3ration 4one cannot be operated in1 The 8c%0assword m3st be lead-in before operation1 /f operation is already cond3cted in the 3ser 4one- repower on the device to correctly read the data inside after power off 1

Read-Write User 9one

To read the correct data- select the device model before read-write operation1 0ress Read User Partition to display data in the corresponding 3ser 4one1 /f data is modified- press Write User Zone to write it into the device- one 3ser 4one can be written once= re-select the 3ser 4one to write others1

Simulated Aut1entifi ation

?erify sec3re code and ma,e s3re the f3se has not been blown before operation1 Select Simulated (ut)entification in the Device Operation men3 to see the the following boG1 The sim3lated a3thentification is located in the "'B 4one1 %*en onl. to t1e user #1o signed t1e 7&A agreement #it1 t1e ATM'+.
