REFLECTION PAPER FOR ASSIGNMENT ONE During this assignment there were some strengths and weaknesses that

I encountered. A major strength for this assignment was the liberty to write about an observed figured world of my choice. Therefore choosing the Legend of the seeker as my figured world increased my desire to write without much difficulty because I enjoyed what I was observing. For example conducting three separate observations about this figured world was something that I did with ease and some sort of passion. Another form of strength was the group peer feedback to colleagues papers. After reading Straubs article about responding to other students papers I felt more enthusiastic and confident as to the best way of responding to each others assignment. I was able to comment on others papers without trouble had fun doing this because I learnt new ideas. In spite of the above listed strengths, there were a few weaknesses I encountered too during this assignment. Some of these were; generation of interview questions, identifying rules and conventions of appropriate behavior, time factor and doing the above and beyond activities for a better grade. Generating interview questions; this was a major setback encountered while working on this assignment. This is because creating those questions took longer time than I thought. Also interviewing friends was something I was more or less bad at. While trying to generate interview questions was my weakness, another one I encountered was how to identify the rules and conventions of appropriate behavior to my observed figured world and writing as much as 250 words got me frightened. Actually it took me some time to be able to identify such rules since this was the first time writing such a paper. Quiet apart from the above listed weaknesses, time factor has been another. This assignment needed more time dedication than I assumed. Meeting just the minimum was not an easy task that could be done in an hour. This is because choosing a figured world such as series movie means one needs time to watch, and fully understand before the assignment could be completed.

During the comments activity from peer responders some were indeed helpful and others I saw as opposite. Below are examples of some helpful comments from peer responders that I found extremely useful and how I incorporated them into my writing. Addison-1 comment three This part of the sentence confused me, perhaps the wording is off was a comment I valued from my responders because it made me revise that part over and over until I found out that the main idea that I was trying to point out got my readers confused as in my readers perception. Finally I was able to re- construct sentences and point out my major idea to readers from that paragraph after taking that feedback into account. Addison 2- two comment five, Is this a specific artifact in your figured world or a metaphor Again I found this feedback very helpful because as a reader certain terms used were not familiar to the reader. I decided to further explain these words such as sword of truth, the seeker and others used very well and creating a mental picture in the readers view. Addison 2- comment eight was also another feedback that I incorporated after I found it helpful. Actually this talked about describing characters based on their personalities instead of doing too much of background information. I revised the actors section by describing them based on their personalities rather than doing more background information. Addison 4- comment twelve When did Kahlan walk up? was not that useful to me because after carefully reviewing the paragraph I did not understand what the responder meant by that and there was not part saying such a thing. Addison 4- comment thirteen Who is she? this was another comment that I found unhelpful because using she in the passage was relevant. I did not want to keep repeating names when that passage was talking about Kahlan if carefully read. I think I have gone above and beyond the guidelines for this assignment in the sense that I have written a detailed observation throughout the ones conducted. Reading this gives a reader a mental picture of the entire episodes. Apart from a detailed observation note conducted and a mental picture created in the minds of my readers, I have also gone beyond this assignment by creating a Prezi presentation with a link embedded into my work to help give a more illustration on the actors, the locations using a map and a YouTube trailer to

expose readers to the story line of my observation. Also an audio recorded version of an additional interview based on some questions asked about the show. This assignment indeed took me more time and dedication to accomplish.
