Index of Eight Core Industries (Base: 2004-05=100)

The summary of the Index of Eight Core Industries (base: 2004-05) is
given at the Annexure.
2.
The Eight Core Industries have a combined weight of 37.90 % in the
Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
The combined Index of Eight Core
Industries stands at 156.7 in February, 2014, which was 4.5 % higher compared
to the index of February, 2013. Its cumulative growth during April-February,
2013-14 was 2.6 %.
Coal
3.
Coal production (weight: 4.38 %) increased by 0.1 % in February, 2014
over February, 2013. Its cumulative index during April to February, 2013-14
increased by 0.9 % over corresponding period of previous year.
Crude Oil
4.
Crude Oil production (weight: 5.22 %) increased by 1.9 % in February,
2014 over February, 2013. The cumulative index of Crude Oil during April to
February, 2013-14 declined by 0.1 % over the corresponding period of previous
year.
Natural Gas
5.
The Natural Gas production (weight: 1.71 %) declined by 4.4 % in
February, 2014 over February, 2013. Its cumulative index during April to
February, 2013-14 declined by 13.3 % over the corresponding period of
previous
year.

Petroleum Refinery Products (0.93% of Crude Throughput)1

Petroleum refinery production (weight: 5.94%) registered a growth of 3.2
% in February, 2014 over February, 2013 and its cumulative index during April
to February, 2013-14 increased by 1.6 % over the corresponding period of
previous year.
Fertilizers
7.
Fertilizer production (weight: 1.25%) declined by 0.7 % in February,
2014 over February, 2013. However, it registered a cumulative growth of 2.2 %
during April to February, 2013-14 over the corresponding period of previous
year.
Steel (Alloy + Non-Alloy)
8.
Steel production (weight: 6.68%) recorded a growth rate of 4.8 % in
February, 2014 over February, 2013. The cumulative growth during April to
February, 2013-14 was 4.2 % over the corresponding period of previous year.
Cement
9.
Cement production (weight: 2.41%) increased by 2.3 % in February,
2014 over February, 2013 and its cumulative growth during April to February,
2013-14 was 3.3 % over the corresponding period of previous year.
Electricity
10. Electricity generation (weight: 10.32%) increased by 10.4 % in February,
2014 over the period of February, 2013 and it registered a cumulative growth of
5.7 % during April to February, 2013-14 over the corresponding period of
previous year.
Note: Data are provisional. Revision has been made based on revised data
obtained for corresponding month of previous year in respect of Coal, Crude
Oil, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Steel and Cement.
