Another increasingly important area with recent changes in Building Regulations the thermal insulation requirements of many doors are increasing. A thermal insulation value is expressed as a u-value in W/m2K, where a lower number indicates a higher level of insulation. A recent change to Building Regulation Document L dictates that many doors have to have a u-value of no higher than 1.4 W/m2K.

A passive house is a building in which a comfortable interior climate can be maintained without active heating and cooling systems. Acoustic insulation
An area in which specications have increased signicantly in recent years. Acoustic values are expressed in decibels or dB. A door with a 41dB rating will, again when used in accordance with test evidence, acoustically insulate to lower the volume by 41decibels ie. if you have 60 dB of noise on one side you would only hear 19dB of the volume on the other side of the door set.
