GENERALIST OPTION If students do not wish to pursue the CFA option, they may choose the Generalist option. Under the Generalist option, students select 15 credits from any of the Communication courses (9 credits must be at the 300 or 400 levels in Communication Studies). One course may be chosen from four RTF electives, but this course does not count toward the 9 credits of 300 and 400 level Communication Studies electives.

Additional electives: No more than one 3-credit RTF elective can be applied to the Communication Studies major.

PART I: REQUIRED COURSES Pre-requisites: COMM 104, COMM 214, COMM 219, and COMM 280 are prerequisites for all other courses. COMM 368 must be taken prior to COMM 498 and most 300 and 400 level electives (exempt 303, 304, 319, 433, 441, 444, 447).

PART II: ELECTIVE OPTIONS (15 course credits) Students may choose to pursue study in one of three Communication Focus Areas (CFAs) OR- they may pursue studies in a Communication Generalist Area. o CFA study: Students are required to earn 9 credits in the chosen CFA, in addition to the introductory course in that area plus 2 electives from any area. o Generalist study: Students choose 15 credits from any of the Communication courses (9 credits must be at the 300 or 400 levels in Communication Studies). One course may be chosen from four RTF electives, but this course does not count toward the 9 credits of 300 and 400 level Communication Studies electives. Students are required to take at least 9 credits of Communication Studies courses at the 300 and 400 levels. Only COMM 303 OR COMM 304 can count towards the 38 credit major. Students may choose to take one 3-credit course from four RTF electives (329, 347, 348, and 433) that will count towards the Communication Studies major. These courses do not count toward the 9 credits of upper level electives required in Communication Studies, but can be used to complete the 15 credits of electives.
