Number Journal: One Journal title: Classroom Management

For my first journal, the issue that I want to raise up is about the classroom management. My first day in Sekolah Kebangsaan Bohor Mali was quite okay but I still did not get my timetable on that day. So, I cannot enter the class yet and it makes me quite worried. Besides that, I was also worried about the pupils there because I did not know their level of English language. Some of my lecturers had said that before we entered the class, we should be firm and strict with the pupils so that they will respect me more as their teacher. In my opinion, this theory is true as most of the teachers in this school also said the same thing. The next morning, which is the second day, I finally got my English class timetable. I have to teach Year 3 pupils. Some of the teachers here told me that the Year 3 pupils were quite naughty as they were the only class. Most of them were not too good in English as their level were average. Thank God, I received my timetable on the third day and it was my first time to enter the Year 3. So, I took this opportunity to conduct an ice breaking session with my pupils and it helped me to know them better. In the ice breaking session, the pupils were quite well behaved and they really gave me their cooperation and attention. I asked them to introduce themselves first and lastly I introduced myself to them. They seem like enjoying my first session very much because they asked me a lot of questions and we had fun in the session together. Apart from that, I also established my first classroom rules for them. Firstly, I wanted them to always check the rubbish under their table. The rationale I did the rules because I wanted to have a clean environment for my lesson. Secondly, I wanted them to recite the doa every time before I started the lesson. From that, I knew that I should not judge book by its covers as Year 3 pupils were so polite and hardworking. Although they were not too good in English but they willing to learn the subject. That situation makes me proud of them so much. I managed to enter the class on the fourth day that is Thursday. According to my lesson for that day, I managed to identify their level of learning and knew that they have little vocabulary in the minds and this made me realize that I have to work harder to help them to improve themselves.

Next, in order to reinforce good behavior in the classroom, I believe that the use of positive reinforcement is slightly significant. According to Skinner (1995), positive reinforcement does have a positive impact on behavior. This is supported by a statement that stated the appropriate application of positive reinforcement has repeatedly been demonstrated to increase both on-task behaviour and desired behaviour. In my opinion, I will use the reward system in my next class. This is because this system was the best plan in order to gain pupils cooperation and attention during my lesson. Apart from that, I will also apply some music such as songs and videos during my lesson in order to have interesting lesson. My advisor teacher also agrees that pupils really love songs and music in class. This will attract pupils towards the lesson and the learning outcomes can be achieved through the lesson. Last but not least, from the first week, I managed to find out my weaknesses and knew my level in teaching. There were a few things that I should overcome and did some changes in my teaching and learning session so that pupils will have trust and confidence in me and my lesson. For example, I should improve on my voice projection more in order to maintain the interaction with pupils and control the class well. Perhaps I should also think other new interesting and fun activities towards my next lesson and it will also help me to have effective class control as well. Based on these, I will use my second week wisely and try to experiment again with the pupils in order to find the best way to teach them and I hope I will able to control the classroom in my next classes.

Number Journal: Two Journal title: Classroom Management 1. Problem During my second week, I was supervised by my advisor lecturer, En Abdul Wahab Bin Sulaiman on Wednesday. During the lesson been carried out, pupils were quite good because I showed them some slides on conjunctions and they listened attentively to my presentation. My focused skill for that day was reading. So I did reading aloud session on that day and pupils will follow after I had read. Besides that, I had also used an interactive online game related to conjunctions and asked pupils to play with it with my guidance.

2. Analysis For the problem, I think I should rise up my voice because it is not loud and clear. This will cause pupils to not hear my instructions well. My lecturer also stated the same that is he said that my voice should be loud and clear instructions. Throughout the activity, I should organize well the slides because the wordings in the slides were too straightforward and it did not make pupils think deeply. Apart from that, I did not pay much attention to the wordings in the slides as it contains some difficult words and the level was too high and some pupils do not understand it well. So during reading session I use simple words and change the sentences so that pupils are able to understand it.

3. Recommendations to Improve In order to overcome this problem, I should always speak loudly and be firm because I gave too much of faces to my pupils. Apart of that, I must also concern with pupils need and level of proficiency so that the lesson went well. For example, my teaching aids should follow the sensitivity of my pupils culture. Besides it helps pupils to understand it will also increase their motivation level to read English books as well. Moreover, I will definitely ask or discussed my lecturer and friends about this and got their guidance and advice.

4. Period of Time I will try to overcome this problem in the next teaching and learning session. If the problem cannot be solved immediately, of course it will affect my learning outcomes of the lesson.

5. Follow-up When making a lesson plan, I will think of the objectives and activities that fit the allotted time and provide different activities for strengthening pupils to control the class of noise. In addition, teaching material should be interesting and great to be able to attract pupils. Usually during the set induction, students must be withdrawn during this time that his interest further learning smooth. Pupils are not noisy and unruly class with good control.

1. Problem Although my pupils in Year 3 was so small in number rather than other classes, I still facing with class control as they were big pupils and they were quite naughty during in teaching and learning sessions. From my point of view, they could be control when I brought them to ICT lab during Wednesday for my observation with my advisor lecturer. From this, I realized that the usage of ICT will help me to control the classroom better. 2. Analysis From the problem I come out with activities that use the aid of ICT in the lesson. I knew that in order to keep pupils engaged to the lesson and maintain my class control; I should use variety approaches and activities such as use audio-visual method during the lesson. For example, I use a video of the current cartoon which is Oggy and the Cockroaches in my teaching and learning session. Based on my observation, pupils seem very excited to watch the video and eager to know what happened next. Through this activity, I had achieved pupils understanding and make them fully participate in my lesson as well as they could listen to and watch the video well. 3. Recommendations to Improve In order to overcome this problem, I should always organize myself as I had to be preparing myself on how to use the LCD well. Besides that, the class must be suitable with the usage of LCD because I had to use the LCD in the school hall as my class is too bright and pupils cannot see the screen well. That is why I choose to use the LCD in ICT lab as it fully occupied with everything that related to technology and it was comfortable to be used as teaching and learning session. 4. Period of Time I will try to continue these strategies in the next teaching and learning session. If the problem cannot be solved immediately, of course it will affect my learning outcomes of the lesson.

5. Follow-up When making a lesson plan, I will think of the objectives and activities that fit the allotted time and provide different activities for strengthening pupils to control the class of noise. In addition, teaching material such as songs should be interesting and be able to attract pupils. Usually, I as the teacher should establish pupils schemata by enhancing their readiness towards the lesson in the set induction stage.

Number Journal: Four Journal title: Classroom Activities

1. Problem Being as a teacher, I realized I should manage to create fun and meaningful learning strategies in my classroom. Although my pupils in Year 3 was so small in number rather than other classes, I still facing the problem to come out with enjoyable activities in my classroom. As my class was mostly at 12.00 p.m. so pupils were not productive as they felt tired and sleepy. From my point of view, they could focus and pay their attention if the activities were enjoyable and fun. 2. Analysis From the problem I come out with activities that use their creativity and thinking skill. I knew that in order to keep pupils engaged to the lesson and maintain my class control; I should use variety approaches and activities such as use visual method during the lesson. For example, I use word search and cut and paste activities in my teaching and learning session. During my practicum, I had come out with an activity to create popcorn adjectives. I prepared the yellow and red papers to pupils and they were needed to cut and paste the paper until it became shape like popcorn. From this activity, pupils were enjoyed themselves as it stimulates their creativity to decorate the popcorn. Apart from that, it also can be related to visual and spatial intelligence which had been implemented by Howard Gardner. According to Howard Gardner 1983, The Theory of Multiple Intelligences as a model of intelligence that differentiates it into specific (primarily sensory) "modalities", rather than seeing it as dominated by a single general ability. Gardner chose eight abilities that he held to meet these criteria such as musical - rhythmic, visual - spatial, verbal - linguistic, logical mathematical, bodily - kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. He later suggested that existential and moral intelligence may also be worthy of inclusion. (Wikipedia).

Besides that, I also had used big picture cards which I had laminated it by myself in my teaching and learning session. Based on my observation, pupils seem very excited to do the activities and eager to finish the activities. Through this activity, I had achieved pupils understanding and

make them fully participate in my lesson as well as they could listen to and watch the pictures well. 3. Recommendations to Improve In order to overcome this problem, I should always organize myself as I had to be preparing myself to update with the current fun and meaningful activities. Besides that, I should create activities which costless or maybe using the recycle things to reduce the cost. For example, using tin can, bottle, box, and many more. 4. Period of Time I will try to continue these strategies in my next teaching and learning session. If the problem cannot be solved immediately, of course it will affect my learning outcomes of the lesson. 5. Follow-up When making a lesson plan, I will think of the objectives and activities that fit the allotted time and provide different activities for strengthening pupils to control the class of noise. In addition, teaching material such as pictures should be interesting and be able to attract pupils.
