Job Purpose
Deliver physiotherapy services and provide clinical leadership to identified BikeNZ athletes both in New Zealand and Internationally as required Work in conjunction with key Coaches and Athlete Performance Support Staffto deliver a collaborative performance support model for carded BikeNZ athletes. Perform other tasks / responsibilities within the scope of physiotherapy, including providing services to athletes from other sports, as reasonably required by the HPSNZ Medical Lead or Performance Health Manager.

Functions of the role


Provide comprehensive physiotherapeutic consultation and treatment to BikeNZ carded athletes including both proactive and rehabilitative management. In conjunction with key Athlete Performance Support staff and national squad coaches, deliver comprehensive and integrated rehabilitation to BikeNZ Athletes Liaise closely with the BikeNZ Medical Director and Performance Health Manager to facilitate management of injuries and interventions as appropriate. In conjunction with the BikeNZ Medical Director and Performance Health Manager implement and operate a pro-active approach to minimising injury risk for BikeNZ riders. Provide a thorough case management approach to all injury management including contributing to case management meetings as required by the BikeNZ MD and/or BikeNZ Performance Health Manager. Provide clear information and education to riders, including explanation of proposed treatment / care plan in order to ensure understanding and informed consent.

Job Description: Bike Physiotherapist

Ensure consultation notes are of the highest standard and are entered in the approved medical records software (Gensolve), meeting the required legal and ethical standards of Physiotherapy practice. Implement and manage the Minimising Injury Risk Plan across BikeNZ athletes within the RTC including uploading to ZED (performance software) the MIR strategies and other relevant information. Communicate and engage closely with relevant Coaches and Athlete Performance Support staff regarding injury management strategies including utilizing Zed as required. Maintain on-going injury management records, including the use of ZED as appropriate. Ensure data is collated on treatment levels and attendance of the BikeNZ Athletes. In conjunction with the BikeNZ Medical Director, Performance Health Manager and the HPSNZ ML, develop innovative and evidence based strategies for effective physiotherapeutic practice with elite athletes. Maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment. Ensure all consultations are accurately invoiced and that appropriate financial pathways are followed. Through the application of research and interdisciplinary collaboration, assist in the optimal performance of BikeNZ athletes. Travel as part of the BikeNZ team in a Physiotherapy role nationally and internationally for differing periods. During this time maintain high levels of communication with the BikeNZ Medical Director and Performance Health Manager to ensure optimal management of athlete and staff health conditions. Provide a comprehensive report to Bike NZ and HPSNZ at the completion of the travel, including clinical, administrative and future recommendations. Working closely with the BikeNZ Medical Director, administer standing orders (including medications and supplements) as appropriate. When necessary, and working closely with the BikeNZ Medical Director and Performance Health Manager support athletes undergoing anti-doping testing procedures. Culture

Work collaboratively with Coaches and Athlete Performance Support staff to ensure optimal BikeNZ rider development and performance. Work and interact in a manner consistent with the values of HPSNZ and the HPSNZ Medical Guidelines and Physiotherapy Code of Ethics. Within the multi-sport medical clinic at the Cambridge Regional Training Centre (Home of Cycling), work closely with professional colleagues of all disciplines and sporting codes, to support the overall development of the medical and rehabilitation service. Act in a professional manner at all times, including maintaining the confidentiality of athlete / staff information in accordance with BikeNZ policy, the Privacy Act and the HPSNZ Medical Guidelines. Support HPSNZ and BikeNZ in its support of drug free sport by understanding and applying the principles of the WADA Code.

Experience/ Skills
Essential At least five years post graduate physiotherapy experience and evidence of continuing professional development. Previous experience (minimum 3 - 5 years) working as a Physiotherapist with High Performance Sport / Elite Athletes at a national or international level. Proven track record of working effectively with elite athletes, coaches, high performance, medical and paramedical staff for a sustained period of time Proven record in the provision of physiotherapy support to athletes to optimise performance Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, evaluate and evolve programmes for individual athletes, particular to the sport specific demands.

Desirable Cycling physiotherapy and soigneur experience Experience of travelling with national teams, squads and athletes An understanding of anti-doping procedures

Knowledge
Essential An understanding of the needs of elite athletes and coaches in a high performance environment. A thorough understanding of the various sports science and medicine disciplines and the roles they play in elite athlete care. A detailed knowledge of physiotherapy support, including a broad range of clinical modalities, appropriate to the needs of elite athletes both in training and competition. The ability to access and interpret relevant research and an understanding of how to apply evidence based practice in an elite sports environment. An on-going commitment to continuing education and professional development.

Qualifications
Essential Current Registration as a practicing physiotherapist n New Zealand. Current Annual Practicing Certificate issued by the NZ Physiotherapy Board. Post graduate Physiotherapy or Sports Medicine Qualification. Member of Sports Medicine NZ.
