4 Ford I"S and FoCOM com!arison
<his chater describes comarison of functions of FoCOM with original Ford Motor 7iagnostics
,7S >,ntegrated 7iagnostic S!stem?.
8.1 .ontrol unit selection
Main difference between concets of rogram FoCOM and s!stem ,7S is in user aroach to
*ehicle and its s!stems.
<he ,7S uses so called Function s!stem# which first chooses function >e.g. )ead trouble codes? and
then control unit >e.g. PCM?.
FoCOM chooses control unit first and then function.
(d*antage of second aroach is eseciall! similarit! with other diagnostic s!stems >e.g. OC7S#
etc.? and conse6uentl! more user friendl! for those who ha*e not much e4erience with ,7S. Ne4t
ad*antage is easier identification of concrete t!e of control unit for rogramming etc.
