Dear Parents / Carers,

I hope you all had a good half term break. There are lots of important dates to keep track of this term so
please make a note of all the exciting things that are happening!
o Cultural Awareness and Celebration Day – Thurs 12th November (Dressing up in cultural costume during day
and disco in evening 6:00-8:00)
o School photographs – Friday 13th November (Individuals and siblings)
o Anti-bullying week – Monday 16th November
o Year Three assembly – Thursday 19th November
o Christmas concert – Monday 14th December 6:30pm
o Foundation Stage Nativity – Tuesday 15th December
o KS1 nativity – Wednesday 16th December

Topics this term Important Notes

In Maths this term we will be focusing on data
handling and measures and then we will revisit
calculating using a variety of addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division strategies. Please
continue to practise times tables and number bonds
regularly with your child as it will really benefit
them.
In Literacy we are doing a great project called Talk
for Writing. A visiting teacher will be coming in
once a week to teach and we will be focusing on one
story book to help with the structure of story
writing and good speaking and listening. We have
begun the topic already and the children really
enjoyed learning how to retell a story using actions.
If your child is telling you about something they
have seen or done please encourage them to add
detail and description when they are talking to you
(if you have time!).
RE – Christmas Gifts
Outdoor PE – Swimming. Swimming coaches will be
leading the swimming teaching.
Indoor PE - The professional dance teachers are
still coming in to teach every Thursday afternoon
and the children have really been enjoying it.
Spanish – with Mrs Laing every Monday morning.
Creative Curriculum
Topic work – ‘What in the world is going on?’
The topic focus so far has covered polar life as this
is what the children have been interested in. This
term the topic will be linked to geography topics
Outdoor PE is on Mondays. It is very important that
children remember to bring their swimming kit every
Monday and unfortunately now that it really feels like
winter, it is also very important that children remember
their coats!
Indoor PE will be on Thursdays. Kit required: pale blue
t-shirt/dark sweatshirt, navy shorts/tracksuit bottoms
and plimsolls.
Reading - I would ask that children continue to bring
their book bags to school on a daily basis. Books from
the school reading scheme will be changed weekly on
Tuesdays. Please continue to listen to your child read,
question them about the text and sign the reading
journal so we know that they have read their current
book and are ready for the next book in the series.
Children will also have the opportunity to take out and
change library books on Wednesdays.
Homework - Will be handed out on Fridays and I ask
that children return their homework on the following
Wednesday.
Spellings - Spelling tests will be on Fridays and I ask
that children practise these spellings during the week
to prepare for the test on Friday. .
Tables –There will be a weekly tables challenge to help
children with rapid recall of the table facts.
