The Boys, Girls, and Transgendered Club
Everywhere we go, every street corner we find ourselves at, we can see that there is
always going to be the two simple sexes amongst us, male and female. Although when is it that
you might see a complicated gender identified person with different sexual orientations? There
has always been the idea of gender identities amongst our society, and how we portray them
has always been confusing to tell whether its for attention or a serious personality. What I
mean exactly by this is, does the person express themselves just for attention or is it because
they really have that personality to as of who they really are. Im not saying a persons gender
identity isnt true or not, but how are we to know exactly? And how do we know someone may
not just be using it as a way to take advantage of publicity and use it to his or her own
advantage in a way as a marketing scheme? There has to be plenty of views, and ways to
respect gender identities, we should be able to tell apart from the serious complicated gender
issued people apart from the fraudulent gendered people who play the role for attention rather
than the serious matter that it is.
You might even think celebrities do such things as use their gender identities to help
promote themselves for publicity and marketing right? Well, it seems not every celebrity out
there does things such as using sexual orientation as an excuse to promote to their career. Take
the actress Amber Heard for example, in the article Amber Heard Discusses Bisexuality In
'Elle' in the Huffington Post, in which they discuss her interview in the magazine editorial
Montano 2
Elle and she quotes I didn't want to look like I was hiding anything,. Shes discussing how
shes not ashamed that shes bisexual and she doesnt feel that it should be hidden or even seen
as something bad, its just who she is and it should have no effect in her work environment or
relationship. Shes not using her gender identity in anyway what so ever to promote herself,
just clearing the air when it comes to the news media about her sexual orientation that she
revealed.
Gender identities with various sexual orientations are not just seen in celebrities but also
normal everyday people, and some people are even afraid to be honest about their own gender
identity. Marjane Satrapi first hand views a case of a scenario such as not being fully true to
your own gender identity in the book Persepolis 2. In the book she discusses herself with her
boyfriend and how he says he needs to talk to her about something serious and tells her I
havent told anyone. I wanted to share this secret with you first. Here it is: I think Im gay.
(60). From this you can read that Marjanes boyfriend is insecure about his gender identity, and
felt hes finally ready to tell someone and that someone was his girlfriend Marjane. Hes telling
her not to have it as an excuse to break up with Marjane, but because thats who he truly is and
needed to feel secure so he told Marjane. This is a perfect example of someone with a true
gender identity that has no side objectives for personal advantage, but to rather feel true to
himself about his gender identity.
It seems in the gay community of women, lesbians often tend to see the sexual
orientation of being bisexual one thats not to be true. In Arielle Scarcellas online video
YouTube video Bisexuals Respond To : "What Lesbians Think About Bisexuals" it discusses
how lesbians truly feel about bisexuals, and bisexual women respond. Although it seems
lesbian women are not too fond of bisexuals, not because theyre bisexual but more because it
Montano 3
seems as if bisexuals only say they are as an experiment, or just to impress boys rather than
having it be a serious orientation amongst their own gender. I can understand why lesbians
would think like this, although in the video, the bisexual women respond and their clarifications
for being a true gender identified bisexual. One of the women explains how its just a
complicated spectrum thats really hard to understand, and that its not like theyre in it for
sexual relations only, but just who they are. This example goes perfectly well to express how
bisexual women are seen as the type to maybe lie and take advantage of the gender identity or
sexual orientation of being bisexual for attention, but in the video the bisexual women clearly
ruled that theory out, and that its truly their gender identity, although its still a question to
many whether some girls are serious or not about being bisexual.
There are many gender sexual orientations amongst the society we now live in today
such as: heterosexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality, although it seems homosexuality can
take quite an interesting route, since there are many different ways to be express being
homosexual. In the gay community theres men that love to dress as women and get as pretty as
they can and even do contests, these gendered women are called drag queens. In the movie
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar directed by Beeban Kidron, it tells a
story of not just ordinary gendered gay men, but a certain gender and sexual orientation of
being gay, drag queen gay that is. They show themselves and talk about themselves to being
not just regular gay, but drag queen gay in which your way more feminine than the typical gay,
and must show that by being in a role of a queen that is. They express themselves in a certain
gender of gay orientation in which its used to show that yes, they do use their orientation for
show and publicity, but its truly who they are from birth, not a personal gender choice they
Montano 4
made up in a day, its more of a personal assurance of who they are, rather than something in
which they use to prove to others.
In my own personal experience in dealing with gender identity, I found myself not
agreeing with the bisexuality amongst women. I say this because Ive been to a party in which
one time these girls got so intoxicated or so, that they kiss each other and the next day or so I
had seen one of the girls and I said to her, I didnt know you were bisexual? Her response
back to me was, Well yeah, I just do it for fun. My first response in my head was, well thats
an odd thing to do for fun, considering bisexuals are not taken serious for girls like this, and it
has a serious impact on the gay/bisexual community. In my opinion I dont think its right to do
things like that, and consider yourself bisexual for fun, because it reduces population wise, the
true identities of other bisexuals out there who want to be taken seriously, but they cant
because so many people take being bisexual almost as a joke. This is where I found this girls
gender identity to be a total fraud.
Now we can see how in our everyday lives gender identity amongst sexual orientation is
dealt with, and how it can be depicted as true, or fraudulent for attention and publicity. Its not
to say that everyone who claims to be a certain gender is really that gender, or to say if
someone is lying about their gender either, its just more of a idea that each person and their
gender need to be taken account of seriously rather than a joke. Yes there are people who really
do lie about their gendered sexual orientation for attention and publicity, but we must let those
people who only use their gender for unnecessary attention be, because at the end of the day we
know who we are, and thats all that matters when it comes to being true to your own gender
identity.
