Component 1 Reporting

This art piece is a pencil sketch of a womans face smiling and the side of a mans face. The women
has a straight fringe that comes down to her eye brows. She has thin eye brows that are mostly
covered by her hair. The eyes are large and bright that are companied with thin eye lashes. Her nose
is a normal length and width. The end of her nose is round and points down. The cheeks are full and
her happy smile displays her straight teeth. In the picture only the side of mans face is visible. His
eyes are closed, nose, part of his cheek and forward are hidden behind the womens hair. He is very
close to the women and has loving smile. His chin is covered by some stubble.
Component 2 - Responding
The lines in this art piece are short, long, light, dark and different shades. The lines drawn
for the womens hair start dark then turn light then dark again. These lines drawn for the
hair are curved which gives the shape of the head. The size, shape and shading of the
womens eyes lights up her face and gives the impression she is a happy, energetic and
warm hearted person. The lines and shading highlight her full cheeks, happy smile and
triangular face. The colour in the picture is primary and a pencil has been used with light
and dark intensity. Even though the one colour has been used the picture is still lively and
vibrant because of detail of the two faces that have been drawn. The overall mood of the
picture is the joy of love between a young man and women. The man is being affectionate
and loving towards the women by brushing some of his face threw her hair. The women has
a warm happy smile which shows that she is enjoying the love filled moment. The shapes in
this picture are 3D. This makes the picture look realistic even though it has been drawn in
pencil. The design principals that stand out the most in this art piece are balance, rhythm,
repetition. The overall picture is harmonise, everything is balanced and nothing is out of
proportion or seems odd. The rhythm and repetition of the sketching is purposeful and
clear. The womens hair has been drawn in a rhythm that gives the impression that the
women is free spirited personality and the way in which she thinks.
Component 3 Reflecting and Relating
This art piece is a detailed sketch that displays the high degree of skills and talent the artist
has. My personal experience is that I have not drawn a picture like this which requires a lot
of skill. However I can relate to the emotion and feelings of Love within the picture. The
dark and light shades have been used effectively. The facial features has been drawn with
great detail. This is very interesting and engaging for viewers because them a clear idea on
what the characters would look like in real life and what sought of person they may be.
Component 4 Reasoning
The deeper substance of the artwork can be categorised by representation, formalism,
expressionism, social commentary and narrative. The representation of this art piece is the
features and expression of the two faces in the picture. The faces give an idea of what the
individuals would be like reality. The artist has created visual elements using detailed
drawing and shading. The artist has used expressionism to capture feelings and creates an
emotional connection with the audience. The body language and facial expressions of the
two faces in the picture sends a message of love to the audience. Most the audience will be
able to relate to this picture through their past or present lives. For others viewers it gives
them an idea what it may feel like. The women has a big smile of happiness and joy across
her face. This expression is a response to her partners loving gesture of brushing his face
through her hair. His expression is one of peace, enjoyment and feeling the love for his
partner. He has his eyes closed which indicates that he is going within himself and feeling
these emotions. The Social commentary & narrative which means that the artists purpose was to
address social issues or to affirm cultural values and traditions (Dinham, 2011) have been
demonstrated as a message of love between a couple.
Component 5
The process of evaluation of this art piece has given me a better understanding for the arts
and an appreciation for teaching art. Issacs art piece was a brilliant drawing that
demonstrated his skills.
Art is more than an object, a song, or a poem. Most accurately, art is the entire creative
process. Whether or not a parent views his or her child as a budding artist, art appreciation
can have a profound effect on every aspect of the childs development. Through art, a child
learns to express himself, to create a physical expression of his thoughts. Unfortunately, art
classes are among the first classes eliminated when a school needs to tighten its fiscal belt.
As teacher you can incorporate some basic art with in a lesson even involving other subjects
like Maths and English.
Understanding the stages of artistic development can help you become better at creating
art. It can also help you become a more effective art teacher. We develop artistically Just
like we develop other skills like talking and walking in stages, we develop artistic skills in the
same way.
Scribble Stage- (1-3 years old) Children at this age are engaged in the physical activity of
drawing. There is no connection made between the marks and representation during most
of the scribble stage.
Preschematic Stage-(3-4 years old) Children at this stage of artistic development are
beginning to see connections between the shapes that they draw and the physical world
around them. Circles and lines may be described as people or objects that are physically
present in the childs life
The Schematic Stage-(5-6 years old) Children at this stage have clearly assigned shapes to
objects that they are attempting to communicate. They often have developed a schema for
creating drawings.
