QUESTIONS
1. Describe 3 different dialog window that you used. Include the name of the dialog window, and
at least 2 details of HOW you used it.
I use the dialog window layers where I lock layers I dont want to be messed with and where I can make layers
not visible. I use the dialog window paths when I want to make a text a path or to change my path to a
selection.I use the dialog window tool box when I need to make changes to a photo. I use fuzzy select and the
clone tool, etc.
2. Describe 3 different tools that you used to make a selection in GIMP. List them and describe HOW you
used them. Which one did you use the most and WHY?
Three different tools I use to make a selection are free select, fuzzy select and rectangle select. I use them to
either delete parts from an image or to color certain parts of the photo. I used fuzzy select the most because
its very simple and we learned it early in the class. I think its most effective and helpful when trying to rid parts
of an image.
3. Describe 3 different ways to adjust the color and/or contrast, lightness of an image in GIMP.
Three different ways to adjust color, contrast or lightness of an image is to go to the color menu and hue-
saturation, brightness-contrast or levels. All of these can help lighten, darken or colorize your image.
4. Describe a project that used TEXT in two different ways. Describe the basic techniques used.
BE SPECIFIC.

A project we had that used text in two different ways was the inspiration poster. We had to have a layer with
an inspirational quote that had some sort of transparency in the background (we reduced the opacity) and the
text that was filled with images (we made the text a path to selection then had our images merged together
and fit it into the text).
5. Describe 2 different projects/lessons where we used GIMP to simulate camera techniques. Name
the project AND how it simulated what can be done with a camera (an SLR).
The Geersten Image and the Selective focus were projects where we had to stimulate camera techniques
because we were using original photos that needed to be clear and focused.
6. Which project was your favorite? WHY? What skills, tools, and techniques did you use?
My favorite project was definitely the inspiration poster because I was able to do it on my hero. I loved that we
were able to express our inspirations, something that really pulls at our emotions and makes us feel motivated.
I loved that it came from specifically us and we were able to more freely express our choices of inspiration in
this project.
