1. Create dot points and collect key quotes for your presentation.
2. On the powerpoint slide write the dot point or quote
Turn your dot points into paragraphs, for your speech script. Use TEEL
T- Topic E Explain E- Example L-Link

Tomorrow, when the war began sample paragraph:
A quote from the character Ellie in Tomorrow when the war began represents the
peaceful qualities of Australian culture. In a series of scenes with the characters finding
their houses abandoned, the teenage characters begin to act cautiously. The character
Ellie says she knows why they are acting this way, but doesnt believe their assumptions
of war in Australia possible, when she says That kind of stuff, it doesnt happen here, not
in this country. In this quote she is showing that she has a strong belief in peace,
mateship, and safety as aspects of Australian culture.
Alex McKinnon news article sample paragraph:
A recent Telegraph newspaper article about the injured Newcastle Knights player Alex
McKinnon demonstrates Australian values as held by the team players and people of
their local town, Newcastle. Alex McKinnon recently suffered a horrific spinal injury,
and the telegraph article compares this tragedy to the Newcastle earthquake and the
closure of BHP to relate that Novocastrians value mateship and compassion for those
in need. A quote from Kurt Gidley expresses that the town certainly gets right
behind the team and its players in tough times. From this, we see that the article
really emphasises community and mateship as significant Australian values.

Nobody calls me a wog, anymore sample paragraph:
In his poem, Nobody calls me a wog, anymore, Komninos challenges conventional
ideas of Australian culture by discussing his personal struggle to establish his identity
in Australian society. In his poem he relates that because of his Greek heritage and
his career he had to fight for his identity when he says I had to assert myself/As an
Australian/As an artist/Stand up and scream it. This challenges the idea that Australia
culture involves acceptance of diversity, and that we value giving everyone a fair go,
regardless of their cultural heritage or career choice.
Down under sample paragraph
The Men at Work song, Down Under both celebrates positive aspects of Australian
culture and comments on negative aspects. The songs lyrics contain a range of
political and cultural references to Australian life. For example, the lyrics Where
women glow and men plunder in the same line speak about the wonderful sunny
climate and the theft of the natural resources from the land of Australia. As a result,
this song can be interpreted as a cynical celebration of Australia and its culture.
