Anyone who has been involved in a local political campaign knows Rex Bohn. Hes probably done
more to help candidates get elected than any person in this room. Hes the King of the Live Auction,
and his infectious enthusiasm draws people in. He knows everyone and his good-natured ribbing
delights the crowd.
Try going to lunch with Rex, and youll be treated to a steady stream of people coming up to talk to
him. Hes a human dynamo with deep roots in the community and was a mover and shaker long
before he ran for political ofce. His tireless work on local campaigns and local projects served him
well when he fnally, and unexpectedly, decided to throw his own hat into the political ring.
Rexs community involvements are well known - from his leadership in Special Olympics to the
Founding President of the Cutten Ridgewood School Foundation. He is the President and Founding
Board Member of the Field Committee Inc., otherwise known as the Redwood Field Complex or the
Bohn Yard. Rex has raised over 8 million dollars for non-profts and schools through his involvement
in auctions and fund raising.
Rexs number one passion in community service is its youth. Rex has coached over forty diferent
athletic teams in basketball, baseball and soccer over the last 40 years. He realizes that whether it be
athletic, performing arts, 4-H or FFA, kids involved in activities outside their normal school schedule
are better prepared for the challenges they will face in the future. Rex recognizes that values
installed through these extra-curricular activities are invaluable to our youth and our community.
So whats it like now that hes serving as our County Supervisor? And whats up with the General
Plan? The budget? What does he see on the horizon? Find out - over lunch, without interruptions - at
our meeting on June 19th.

Message
I dont think any of us could have predicted just how busy this month was going to be for many
of us. With elections on June 1, many of our members have been out there supporting
candidates with similar leanings with phone calls, door knocking, etc. while others of us
hosted and attended our CFRW Northern Division Conference May 16-18th. Yes, hosted. Each
region is required to host a division conference, and it was our turn. It was a frst for many of
us, but the bottom line is we worked hard, learned a great deal, and had fun working with so
many like-minded, supportive leaders from other divisions!
Leave it to the CFRW! They produce some of the most informative conference workshops
around, and these were no exception. On Friday, the 16th, while, as President, I attended the
Executive Board meeting and also the Regional Director meeting, Debbie, Mary, and others
from CFRW busied themselves with arranging Sun Valley Bulb Farm fowers, and flling 150
conference bags with goodies the various clubs from our greater region brought.
Saturday we were able to attend all speakers and workshops and were also able to sell our
cookbooks to the tune of $215.00. Im not sure where to begin in terms of sharing the
information we learned. I think the best word to describe the entire theme of the conference is
empowerment. Deborah Wilder, GOP Chair, Nevada County, spoke on building a coalition of
individuals starting with our club and then reaching out to like-minded organizations and
develop a list of walkers and talkers; make a concerted efort to recruit new members and fnd
tasks for them, and other signifcant strategies for winning elections. Shirley Hussar, a political
consultant and all-around political dynamo, challenged us to take of the blinders that limit
our vision of who we are and can be: a political group who are smart, powerful, and knowl-
edgeable with strategies for choosing candidates and seeing them on to victory. During the
second workshop portion of her presentation Debbie and I were questioned on how well we
know the leaders of our communities and how well we knew our Constitution, and consistent-
ly reiterated the fact that we needed to be deeply knowledgeable of it if we plan to defend it.
The right knowledge is power.
Referenced also in these strategies was the need for some level of expertise in technology, to
which our own Rose Welsh has ofered to lead us through that learning process at one of our
luncheons. I dont know anything either, so thats no excuse for you not to try. Mary Dowd
attended an afternoon workshop on Publicity and these technology strategies were also
emphasized. So like it or not ladies, we need to come of age. We cannot and will not lead
from behind. Our place is right there at the forefront of the political battles. Please strongly
consider attending our next CFRW Northern Division Conference.
Last, but not least, at our dinner on Saturday evening we were treated to visiting candidates
who sat at our tables, answered our questions, shared their visions for a new California, and
then moved on to the next table. I must say we have some exceptional candidates running for
ofce.
Im proud to announce that Rex Bohn will be our speaker at our June 19th luncheon.

Low Information Voters:
Nearly 300,000 Californians Voted For
Gun-Smuggling Candidate Leland Yee
The Daily Caller reports that Yee, who
was arrested back in March on gun
smuggling charges, fnished astound-
ingly well, with nearly 300,000 people
checking his name on the ballot Tues-
day despite not campaigning at all
since his arrest, allegedly plotting to
deal weapons with a radical Islamic
group in the Philippines, and main-
taining a close connection with a
powerful Chinese gangster who was
also arrested in the sting.
When Yee pulled out of the race short-
ly after being charged and arrested for
his connection in a federal sting, he
was polling only at eight percent.
After all the results had been counted
Wednesday morning, Lee had earned
11 percent of the vote and fnished
second among Democratic candi-
dates....The disgraced state senators
strong Tuesday numbers fy in the face
of a May poll that showed 84% of
California voters were concerned with
corruption in their state legislature.
