"# "ntroduction$ This process is very useful when you want to improve comprehension% learn more easily or more effectively% when you want to &e more resourceful with all parts of your &rain wor'ing together at their &est# There are additional interesting and useful side effects###read on# ()eft &rain( processes are generally good for linear thin'ing and &eing a&le to ta'e in lots of detail# *uch as reading% seeing something carefully for the first time# (+ight &rain( processes are generally good for glo&al thin'ing and &eing a&le to follow comple, patterns and ma'e lots of rapid ad-ustments# .lso for certain 'inds of sym&olic thin'ing such as dreams% metaphors% etc# When you use &oth of these together% you are using all of your &rain###most of us fall into the ha&it of using one only one side at a time% often favoring the use of one side so much that we don/t &elieve we are s'illful at using &oth parts# 0Yet we use &oth parts more than most of us reali1e23 Better to use all our &rain together###which produces a synergistic effect as &oth sides are wor'ing and communicate with each other# This wor's &etter for nearly all tas's &ecause we are using all of our &rain% and those parts are &etter a&le to communicate together and coordinate information% learning and other tas's together# When we use all of our capacity we unloc' a&ilities we didn/t 'now we had# !eople with learning disa&ilities often show dramatic improvement% ordinary people unloc' the genius within that was latent &ut not availa&le% gifted people can ma'e a 4ualitative leap 5 and sometimes all of this can happen to the same person# ""# . very good way to learn the effectiveness and usefulness of this process is to go through it% e,perience it for yourself# 6eep in mind a situation in which you/d li'e to do &etter% &e more resourceful with% in which you/d li'e to &e more effective% whole% resourceful# 1. A model of Complete or Well Formed Thought, and of Complete, or Well Formed Perception. 7 Most thoughts and perceptions are incomplete and poorly formed# .s a result% 7 our thin'ing and perceptions are distorted% incomplete8 7 we do not have as much information or understanding as we might% we are less resourceful than we would &e% otherwise8 we suffer in ways that can &e avoided# 2. Direct, or central focus is like foveal vision, useful for taking in details, discrimination, analtical thinking, taking in details of ne! information. 7 This is the part of our vision that we use for reading% for linear processing of one item in detail at a time# 7 This is the part of our hearing that we use to follow a single conversation% and 7 This part of our attention is an important and useful element in analysis# 7 This part of our attention is used in the forming of new ha&its% &efore they are ha&itual# ". #lo$al focus is like peripheral vision, useful for follo!ing and making man rapid changes, immediate and automatic responses, ha$itual responses. 7 .lso availa&le in all sensory modalities% 7 This part of our attention is useful for trac'ing and responding to many rapid changes% 7 .utomatic ha&its and ha&itual responses 7 Bac'ground% and often (unconscious( or (secondary process( responses are perceiva&le here# 7 onte,tual awareness tends to occur in this area# 7 )ac' of conte,tual awareness ma'es it harder to have perspective% to see 'nowledge in relation to other 'nowledge% and to transfer 'nowledge# 7 )ac' of conte,tual awareness leads to disassociation% disassociated secondary processes% along with the many mental diseases that have such elements# %. Center and Circumference are tpical aspects of our human e&perience of the sacred. 7 9ften people notice only one of these elements% when one is present% the other can usually &e found% when loo'ed for# 7 Both elements are nearly universal aspects of how humans organi1e e,perience of the sacred% and other 'ey e,periences that aren/t always la&eled (sacred(# 7 There are side effects of this element &eing present in our e,perience% including$ 7 We tend to e,perience more of our wholeness 7 9ur intuition is accessi&le 7 9ur priorities tend to &e right% we 'now correctly what is really important 7 We can e,perience our connectedness '. When !e are not comprehending, confused, are not a!are of conte&ts, are unresourceful, cannot tell the difference $et!een confusion and ignorance, are unresourceful, our thoughts &/or our perceptions are incomplete or poorly formed. 7 By 'eeping the content of our thoughts and perceptions% and adding to them any missing elements from this model% we are more li'ely to$ 7 Have real comprehension as contrasted with rote 'nowledge 7 Be resourceful% 7 6now what is important 7 Have access to intuition 7 Be a&le to ta'e in new information and 7 Be a&le to respond 4uic'ly% automatically and easily to many rapid changes 7 Be a&le to ma'e or transform ha&its with far greater speed and ease 7 Be a&le to learn much more 4uic'ly and efficiently 7 Have access to much more of our &rains capa&ilities% in a coordinated way# 7 E,perience our wholeness% accelerate natural healing processes# (. and related side effects 7 A# enter : ircumference 5 the experience of *till enter :*pace with Boundaries# This is a useful model% in several ways% among them$ 7 Many of our thoughts are incomplete% lac'ing useful elements# 6nowing what to loo' for% we can e,amine a thought to see if it is well formed and complete% incomplete% or distorted# 7 !erceptions follow the same pattern% and many of our perceptions are incomplete and distorted# More complete perceptions are generally more useful perceptions# 7 omprehension is much more li'ely when our thoughts are complete and well formed# 6nowing what to loo' for when we are confused or pu11led can help us 'now how to achieve e,pert level understanding with far greater efficiency# 7 omplete thoughts and perceptions use more parts of our &rain% unloc'ing more of our a&ilities% faster and easier# The difference &etween when we are operating in a gifted way or in a 'lut1y way is fre4uently found in the lac' or presence of a complete or well formed thought 0or perception3# )et/s e,amine this model for some of it/s characteristics and effects$ 7 !eripheral vision is side vision% and 7 foveal vision is direct vision# 7 Each are useful for different purposes% and when they coordinate together% parts of our &rain coordinate &etter# 7 =ot only in vision does this happen% &ut in all sensory modalities there is an e4uivalent of focused% central perception% and side perception# You can not only see what is going on around you without specific focus% you can also hear what is going on around you# *imilar effects occur proprioceptively% etc# 7 The effects of central% or foveal perception% and peripheral% or glo&al perception% not only occur in all sensory modalities% the effects seem to appear in memories as well as in real5time perception# 7 Foveal% or focused attention% appears to &e useful for focused attention% linear 0so called /left &rain( type thought3# . lot of attention on one item at a time% perceiving a great deal of detail# Ha&its are programmed in with focused attention% &ut aren/t automatic until they run in the &ac'ground% as a peripheral or glo&al &ac'ground process# 7 !eripheral% or glo&al attention appears to &e useful for glo&al awareness% fast and automatic response% such as getting out of the way of a moving o&-ect# .lso useful for conte,tual awareness% connections with other conte,ts% etc# Ha&itual responses seem to occur almost automatically% with peripheral or little focused attention#Also, this is where conte,tual awareness occurs###and this is critical for appropriate transfer of 'nowledge to other areas###when real learning ta'es place 0not -ust rote learning3# 7 onte,ts reside in yet larger conte,ts% and so on###otherwise disassociation occurs# This gives a valua&le 'ey to the healing of disassociated parts of personalities so that wholeness can &e e,perienced# 7 Wor'ing together% glo&al focus seems to (program in( detailed information% and glo&al awareness allows us to trac' and respond rapidly and automatically to rapid changes% conte,ts# The creation of new ha&its is most easily done when conscious focused attention is used% then the process is allowed to &ecome a more automatic ha&itual response running in the 0conte,tual3 &ac'ground with peripheral awareness# !ro&a&ly a lot of what is generally considered (conscious( attention is focused attention# . lot of what is considered (unconscious( or to &e a secondary process is a process operating in a &ac'ground conte,t of peripheral awareness# *o far we/ve covered glo&al and focused awareness as elements of this model% and some of the characteristics of each# There is a third element% having two parts or poles# Usually it is perceived this way% as enter : ircumference 0although often people notice only one of these% even if &oth are present3# This is the e,perience of$ Focused and ;lo&al awareness can wor' together li'e this# +emem&er seeing in the movies how a -et pilot needs to loc' on a target in a central visual location> How once when that is done% the on&oard computer can automatically and 4uic'ly calculate and handle rapid changes> 9ur &rain seems to operate that way% too# When you ta'e something in and loc' in the details of what it is with your central focus% then your glo&al or peripheral awareness can ta'e over to calculate responses% ta'e care of automatic responses###whether in ha&its% learned responses% or creative responses# Watch for this2 7 enter$ *till enter% with timeless 4uality% or 4uality of eternity# 7 ircumference$ a definite space% with &oundaries# These two characteristics &ring in the 4uality of e,perience that people often call sacred# This 4uality% when present% has interesting side affects$ 7 "ntuition is within reach% if not actively present 7 !riorities are appropriate% you 'now what is important 7 Wholeness is e,perienced 7 Healing tends to occur 7 Freedom from that which caused &ondage or limitations# "nterestingly% when enter : ircumference are added on purpose to a perception or thought% intuition% healing% &oundaries% appropriate priorities###all seem to occur naturally% or are within reach###something that can &e chosen and e,perienced# Finally% when you notice that some of these three &asic elements are missing% and add them to a perception or thought% notice how it wor's &etter% how the &rain coordinates functions &etter# When there is trou&le with perception% coordination% understanding###see how complete and well formed the thoughts and perceptions are# )ife goes much &etter with complete% well formed
